BANG! BANG! BANG!
The pounding on the door roused May from her deep sleep. With a snort she snapped her head up and looked around. It took a few seconds but eventually she realized the pounding was knocking on the door. She tried to sit up but found a few limbs around her.
"Ok, seriously, everyone up!"
She said pushing the people sharing her bed onto the floor. She kept hearing the banging and sighed.
"Calm down, I'm coming!"
She yelled. She threw on the first few things she could find, basically a tank top and a pair of cotton shorts she grabbed from the dresser. She shooed the two people out quickly before opening the door. She kicked the two out before turning her attention to whoever was knocking. She didn't know what they wanted but she also didn't care. All she knew was that it was really early and she was still really tired. She brushed her messy aqua colored hair off her face and put her hands on her hips.
"It's 8 in the morning. What in the blue hell do you.....f*ck...."
She quickly straightened up and saluted.
"Director Coulson, sir. Please come in, and I see you've brought your....daughter?"
She said walking into her apartment quickly, motioning for them to follow. She quickly ran to her room and came out with a robe.
"Is there a mission or something? I can be ready in 10, or less if I don't shower I suppose."
She said grabbing a bottle of beer out of the fridge. She popped one claw out and popped the top before taking a swig.

Lydia rocked back on her heels, slightly impatient as to this whole process. Phil was away more and more with SHIELD stuff and as such he figured she should finish out her last year of high school with someone who might be home at least a little more than he was. He was also insistent it was someone who could deal with her powers should they flare up in the middle of the night. They'd been to a few others and she had veto'd them all. This last one, Agent Kinney, Phil was not exactly thrilled about, but she had passed all his requirements and as such, they were here, standing outside the apartment while he banged his fist on the door.
When May opened the door in nothing but what could be considered underwear, Lydia smirked. Even at eight in the morning, Phil was dressed in a sharp suit. Lydia? Not as such. She could feel May's pain; she'd been dragged out of bed at an ungodly hour as well, her hair in a messy braid and the first pair of jeans she could find on the floor and an over-sized sweater. The swearing was also a plus, earning May a few brownie points.
"Agent Kinney," Coulson gave her a tight smile as he followed her in, taking stock of the apartment, not failing to notice the people making their getaway on the fire escape. He kept his face passive, giving no clue as to what he was thinking. It really helped in poker games. It also drove Lydia crazy, but she'd learned a few of his tells over the years. He didn't like the apartment, or the beer drinking.
"I brought Helen along with me, yes. That is the primary reason for this visit. No missions today except to fill that roommate add you placed. I figured it would be in everyone's best interests if your roommate was someone you didn't have to hide your SHIELD activities from. Likewise, I figured you wouldn't bat an eye at Helen flying around randomly or coming in through a window instead of the front door."
Lydia nudged pile of clothes with her foot as she wandered into the apartment proper. She could get away with a hell of a lot more stuff here than anywhere else. That also worked in her favor. Helen looked over at May as she popped the cap off a beer casually, at eight in the morning, with her claw. Oh yes, Helen though she would adjust nicely to living here. She plopped down on the couch, throwing her feet up on the coffee table and grinned at Phil.
"I like this one."
Phil just rolled his eyes. "Of course you do. But the same rules apply."
Lydia just groaned and sighed, rolling her eyes right back.

As she was followed in she heard Coulson's near mono-tone address and rolled her eyes. She was always known as Agent Kinney. Everyone in the know knew her mother. They knew she was created to be a weapon, became a Black Ops hero, then went rogue after The Battle. Her father, well not many knew her father. Scarlet Spider was the lesser known Spider, often over shadowed by her uncle Peter. But she also had no intention of forgetting her father. She was proud of him and his sacrifice. Was it necessary? No, it wasn't. But he still had fought bravely and died, trying to save the world. His name and statue was just one of many and her mother was just one of many psychological casualties.
"That's Kinney-Reilly, sir."
She said not trying too hard to hide her annoyance. Yes she followed and respected Director Coulson without question, but she also would be respected herself and wouldn't let her father's name go unspoken. She took a swig of her beer, leaning against the table. The table had cards, empty bottles and cigar and cigarette butts strewn about. She began poking around and grabbed a half smoked cigar and lit it up.
"Agreed, someone who knew what I did would make things easier on me. Plus someone who can't be so easily killed by Helen here is also a plus. Not to mention I'm sure you like the idea of having someone on hand who can take me down should I end up like my mom."
She said more calling him out than anything. This was partially why she would never make a good spy. One the one hand she was noticeable and on the other she wasn't very tactful. She tended to call it like she saw it.
"But yeah, flying doesn't bother me as long as she doesn't mind someone sitting on the ceiling."
She said with a laugh. Something about Helen struck her as fun. She wasn't all button up like Coulson. This would either be a disaster or a whole lot of fun. May was hoping for fun, since that's what she usually had.
"And what rules would those be? Sir. I mean if she's going to be living her I should know something about them."

Lydia watched as Phil's eyes followed May very closely around the room. He was passive about it, shoving his hands in his pockets, but she could see him taking in every detail. Especially the smoking and the drinking and the mess on the table. Lydia wrinkled her nose a little at the smoke but liked how May had stood her ground. She knew Phil did it on purpose, the name thing. He did it to her all the time, calling her Helen. She'd long given up trying to correct him, though when he needed her attention was when he called her Lydia.
When the conversation turned toward the convenience of them living together and the subsequent possibilities, Lydia sat up and threw up her hands. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. I'm not putting anybody down. That is not what I do. Ever. I might sit on you or pin you to the floor till help arrives but that is not in my wheelhouse."
"Nor was it ever going to be. I have other people for that May. Though the hope here is that they won't be needed, as Helen has stated, she'll sit on you." It amazed Lydia that he said that with an entirely straight face, because once he said it out loud, it seemed a bit ridiculous. She bit back her own laugh as Phil continued on.
"As to the rules, Agent Kinney-Reilly, there will be a full report briefing were this situation to..." he pulled his hand out of his pocket and waved it a bit as if trying to pluck his next word out of the air. "Escalate. But it'd be the same basic rules you'd find in any household. I'll need reports on her condition. To know that her homework is done and that she's eating reasonably well and not getting into trouble. Other than the normal, superhero kind."
"Define trouble, Phil. You've always been so vague with me on that."
Phil began to tick things off on his fingers as he listed them off. "No parties, no drinking, no smoking, no boys."
Lydia looked right at May and said, "He means no fun."

May glanced over at Helen as she mentioned not taking her out but holding her down. Not the wisest decision, given her adamantium claws, but still. Of course it stood to reason there were a few beings whose skin couldn't be pierced by her. She'd heard stories about a guy named Blob whose skin would just give in to it. She didn't exactly buy it but it was interesting. Either way she hoped if it happened Helen was tough enough to take her down. Because if she went rogue like her mom it'd take someone good to take her down. She remembered fighting her mother and trying to stop her. Of course when that memory came flooding back she quickly downed half the bottle before sitting down on the arm of the couch and crossing her legs under her.
"So you have a special team set aside to take me out? Or are you talking the new Suicide Squad, a team I helped train. Of course that would make the most sense, they know me moderately well enough."
She said with a shrug. She took another puff of her cigar and glanced over at Helen. Of course when she learned everything she'd be expected to do she shook her head. She gave a light snort though when Helen mentioned him meaning no fun.
"Eat right, exercise, no parties, boys, etc. Seems fair enough. Make sure she's healthy, smart and not pregnant, definitely doable. Although if I might say so Director, you'd make a wonderful grandfather."
She said with a laugh. Sure he seemed mildly cold but she had to believe that there was some paternal instincts there. After all he'd taken in Helen and apparently she had some sort of brother too he looked after. Definitely something worth looking into.
"She'll be fine here. Not to mention should someone think to come after her...."
She smirked lightly and unleaded the claws on top of her hands and the one under her wrist.
"...well I already know I'm not getting my deposit back."
May did however think it was odd that if he wanted Helen to do no drinking partying or anything, he brought her here. But that was fine, she'd keep Helen safe at least. Plus May only partially worked with SHIELD thanks to the weird relationship between HuRTs and SHIELD. Of course May assumed it was so that when HuRTs went rogue and failed SHIELD could disavow them. Which wouldn't end well for May.
"So did you bring her stuff or is that coming later..."

Phil scratched his nose and waited a moment for May to finish chugging her beer. "That would be telling, Agent. But just so you don't feel too special, I have teams ready at a moment's notice for lots of people. Even Helen."
"Yes...because I'm such a ticking time bomb." Lydia huffed.
"You're a teenager."
"...fair point." she conceded. She had a feeling he had some sort of plan for her if she ever went bad, but that's just the kind of man Phil was. He was prepared. He thought about things most people didn't want to and he did it with a straight face.
Phil sighed and rocked on his heels at the grandfather comment. That was the last thing he wanted, he already had his hands full with James and her and SHIELD. And he was sure that was the last thing Carol would want for her daughter. He slid his gaze back to Lydia, making herself comfortable on the couch. He walked over to her and leaned down to whisper to her, his features softening, going from "Director" to "dad".
"You sure?"
"Yes," Lydia whispered back. "The house is just...too big with you working all the time and James out on his own."
"No, I meant are you sure about her?" Lydia smacked Phil's arm and he grinned at her. If he didn't want her here, he wouldn't have put her name in the list.
"Yes I'm sure." Lydia turned to look at May, smiling. "That's coming later. As for anyone who'd come after me, well...there's a reason Phil had to replace the entire left section of the house. Things went boom. Though I'll try to keep that from happening here."

May wasn't at all surprised to learn that Coulson had teams and plans in place to take out numerous threats, including heroes. It was a shame that had to be the case but the fallout of The Battle proved it. Heroes had gone rogue, their minds unable to properly cope with everything they'd seen and done. So it made sense to be prepared. She could only imagine the kind of people she'd be sent after, and just who would be sent after her. Hopefully they took her alive, putting her next to her mother. She sat there in silence as the two did a quick back and forth, simply discussing, well her and their new living arrangement.
"Hey, HER is sitting right here. You could at least talk about me while you watch me over the cameras or listen to the many bugs I keep finding here. I'm both insulted and relieved they're not in the shower."
She said with a laugh. She of course wasn't concerned about anyone breaking in here. She knew there were other SHIELD agents in the building not to mention there was her own skills. Anyone breaking in would really be in trouble, especially with Helen living here now. Of course May wasn't ever concerned about that, unless some enemy figured it out. Naturally she had a large number of enemies possibly looking for her. Now she had to be more careful though, since she had a roommate to deal with.
"Well, sir, I think it's settled. Now if you don't mind I'd like to get my roomie settled in and get to know her a little better. Now is my me time and I don't get a lot of that. What with hunting down rogue heroes and what not."
She said 'shooing' him towards the door with her hands. Of course she'd never ACTUALLY kick him out. Primarily because he paid her bills so she could live here, not to mention likely owned the building for all she knew. While she didn't think he'd exactly kick her out, right away, but would make her life a living hell.

At the mention of cameras and microphones, Lydia's eyes went wide and she looked at Phil. There was no way that would fly with her living her. She knew Phil ran a spy organization or some such but she was NOT having any sort of equipment there. She quite liked her privacy. Which, she realized was probably not as much as she thought it could be, what with both Phil and James being world class snoops. Still, she shook her head at him at that and Phil just sighed and rolled his eyes.
"Agent Kinney-Reilly, I cannot confirm or deny the existence of surveillance devices in this apartment, but if there were, there won't be anymore." Phil made a mental note to add external security. May was on his list for one reason, he figured they'd be good for each other. Well, mostly Lydia would be good for May. Having a rather invincible roommate was bound to be better for her than nothing. He started to head toward the door as May shooed him, watching Lydia sit comfortably on the couch. He took one last look around, making a mental note to get some decent furniture in this place soon.
"I'll send some movers over with your things, then?" Lydia just smiled and nodded at him, giving him a little finger wave. As soon as he shut the door she sat up and looked at May, a deadly serious look on her face.
"So, first things first. Only authority figures call me Helen. My friends call me Lydia," she held out her hand to May, her seriousness turning into a smile. "Which one's my room?"

May tried to not roll her eyes at Coulson's comment regarding the surveillance tech. She did her best to conceal it but also knew he likely picked up on it. She'd always had issues with some authority figures, something she inherited from her mother and grandfather. Of course she did also work when needed, but she didn't always enjoy it. But she'd struck a deal and she liked the idea of ensuring that no other child had to deal with seeing their parent go rogue.
"Good, I mean I never really did enjoy having to deal with the possibility of being spied on. Of course working somewhat with a spy agency means it comes with the territory."
With a smile she nodded her head in agreement. Coulson sending her things later on would really be easier for everyone. Plus it game May and Helen some girl time. May never had much of a chance for girl time, she was usually working. Of course the few times she did have girl time it was usually a date and had a very different outcome. She gave Coulson a small two finger salute before leaving and turned her attention back to Helen. She liked how she got right down to business. No beating around the bush, just doing what had to be done.
"Lydia it is."
She said shaking her hand.
"I usually stick with May, so no need to worry about that. C'mon I'll show you around."
She said before extinguishing her cigar on her forearm and standing up. She sipped the beer and motioned to the room they were in.
"Living room, kitchen, dining room and pretty straight forward."
She said before going down the hall.
"This'll be your room here. Over here we have a bathroom we'll have to share. This is just an extra room, but I like the window. At goes out to a nearly blind alley, makes coming and going easy. That's my room on the end. Just to be on the safe side for you I suggest knocking. Lots of crazy things happen in there."
She laughed before stopping and turning to face her.
"So tell me Liddy, what do you do for fun?"

Lydia grimaced slightly at May's chosen and rather unique to extinguish her cigar. She had partially picked May because she knew it got under Phil's skin, but now that she actually looked around instead of looking at Phil and gauging his reactions, she found herself gingerly stepping over empty beer bottles and...oh god was that underwear? She side stepped that dubious pile and followed May on her impromptu tour. She could talk about the smoking later, after she had gotten to know May a bit. The apartment didn't reek of cigar smoke so she must not do it all the time, full ash tray on the kitchen table to the contrary.
She poked her head into the bathroom and had to remind herself she was moving into an apartment. It was smaller than her current one and she'd have to share it. The boys never used her bathroom because it scared them with all it's straightening irons and make up and bobby pins and blow driers. She'd have to learn how to utilize space here. It wasn't too bad of an idea. She peered into the extra room with the window to the blind alley and grinned. Excellent. She could take off into the sky from there and not worry too much about anything.
"Crazy things, huh? Sounds like a party." She looked into what was to be her room and could already envision what she needed.
"Oh, I sketch or take photos. I like the lighting in the extra room, mind if I put a desk in there?" And maybe let me take Phil's credit card and get some stuff to liven up the place. She thought, looking back down the hallway to the living room. Throw pillows, maybe a new TV, definitely stuff to spruce up her room though. Maybe get some of her sketches printed up or photos she'd taken. She was going to like it here.
"How about you?"

May was aware of how Lydia examined everything rather carefully. May was used to it, but of course her friends were usually more laid back. Then again Lydia would actually be living here. That made things entirely different and Lydia was likely looking on how to make the place her own. May wouldn't fault her for that. If anything it made complete sense. Primarily because May wanted her to be comfortable and relaxed. May would have to get used to sharing a space, something she wasn't particularly fond of. Sure she didn't mind people occasionally crashing with her for a day or two this was different. Hell she had an extra bed and the other places for someone to sleep, like when Rayne stopped over.
"Yeah, party is a word for it. Speaking of which, once a month I have a large poker party here. I invite all kinds of other heroes. People from SHIELD, Suicide Squad, X-men and so forth. I won't tell Coulson but you're welcome to play. Hell, even invite some other Teen Titans. Only had one, that vampire guy, that was.....it certainly was."
She said shaking her head. She never had been a huge fan of the supernatural people but she put up with it. As Lydia mentioned what she liked to do for fun May nodded her head.
"Umm, I usually party or train when I'm not working. I'm sure Coulson mentioned I come and go a lot. Also a couple times a year I do some survivalist training and just go into the woods for a week. So you'll have the place to yourself a lot."

May had certainly peeked her interest when talking about her poker party, particularly when mentioning "that vampire guy". Her head may have spun around a bit too fast at that and she tried to recover some form of composure and disinterest. "Sounds...interesting. I'm sure you have some fun stories." She'd never admit it, least of all to Sebastian himself, as he'd find it an opportunity to make more passes at her, but she was intrigued by him to say the least. To find he'd been here before was...interesting. She'd have to figure out a way to ask May questions without being nosy.
"Ah, training. Yeah I have my fair share of that as well. Though, the survivalist training seems interesting. I have a tiny bit, but I'd like to learn more. And no, I know it's not a glorified camping trip." She grinned at May. "Though, if that's how you get your 'me' time, it's cool." She wouldn't mind a place to herself most times, but it was why she was moving. Phil wasn't home for weeks at a time and the house was big and lonely. At least the apartment was small. And in the city. She didn't have to go far to find people.

"Fun stories? Lyds, you have no idea. The things I could tell you and the secrets I know about some of these other heroes and agents could make me very powerful. But I'm already a high ranking Squad leader so there's no point in it really."
She said with a laugh. She put her feet up on the coffee table and relaxed. She leaned back and simply looked over at her. She watched her every movement and sniffed the air. That was definitely an interesting scent, but not an extremely unusual one. Her line of work caused her to run into all kinds of people with powers. Lydia most definitely smelled of energy, also a little...non-human.
"So what exactly can you do Lydia? I can smell the energy on you. So the basic energy blasts and so forth?"
She asked, vaguely curious. She just wanted to know what to expect. Primarily if she should be prepared for holes in her walls and so forth. If that happened then so be it, she was long past getting her deposit back. But she wasn't a fan of surprises, at least this kind.
"Oh, yeah you can definitely come with. I'll be bringing my uncle with to train him coming up to. Don't ask. But just be forewarned. My style is we get dropped off either in the Canadian wilderness or something the Amazon with only a small canteen. We have to walk a week's journey to be picked up. I also don't bring an emergency beacon."

Lydia liked the idea of stories and secrets. She could always use a little more pull over some people. Though in all honesty, she probably wouldn't do anything with it more than make someone get her a sandwich.
"Oh, you know..." she waved her hand in the air non-nonchalantly. "Super strength, super fast reflexes, flight, the usual standard super human package that comes along with being Captain Marvel." Lydia popped down on the couch next to May, kicking her shoes off before propping up her feet. "And yeah, energy projection and absorption. I'm always humming with it."
Wilderness training...Dropped into the middle of nowhere. She'd have to not do a lot of things, like fly. Walking for a week...with only a small canteen. She should probably learn to survive, just in case she crash landed on another planet without much in the way of supplies. "Hmm...might somehow...be less difficult. Going to have to give myself some ground rules if I go with you. Um...which uncle would we be with again?" Her head swam with possibilities. Lydia had seen May's file, she had a lot of uncles.

May simply nodded her head as she listed off her powers. They were the basic package, she was right. Just a basic strength, flight, energy package. Of course what she did with them was likely a different matter entirely. Namely because that changed everything fora person. She'd seen more than a handful of people with similar powers who were completely different.
"That's what that smell is. Ok, I'll have to get used to it. It'll take me a few days but eventually I'll get used to it because science."
She said with a shrug. She knew she'd get used to her scent. Between the energy, shampoo and whatever else she used, she'd likely get used to it. It sometimes took time, depending on the severity of the scents. So far she seemed to smell pretty mellow.
"Oh if you come with me there would be rules. No flying is the big one. Everything else is likely fine. Unless of course you have a power of self-sustenance."
She said with a light laugh. As she asked about which uncle she smiled.
"My younger uncle. Only found out about him a few years ago. I think of him more like a little cousin than anything. Mainly because he's younger than me and so untrained. He's got the family attitude down though. But maybe after our first solo trip. Last thing I need is some hot young blonde distracting him and making him make dumb mistakes."
She had a feeling it could happen. Primarily because he was a man and men, especially young men, tended to get distracted by women and make dumb mistakes. Hell May often used that to her advantage, hence the skin tight suit.
