Wow, the police were slow. Or cowards. Somehow Gabe preferred the first option. Otherwise he was going to have to defeat the King of Hearts single-handed.
”Not when your family gets stronger at each generation. I dread to think what I could do when I go demiurge.” There was actual dread in his voice, as well as a hint of a threat. He really didn’t know what he might be able to do.
Maximus’ reaction on seeing his blade skills was a strong indicator that he was about to choose the right course of action.
It was good that Gabe hadn't planned to do hand-to-hand combat with the sword, only to extend his range for electrokinesis. Something along the lines of a lightning rod. The levitation came easily, quickly, naturally as the six figures closed in around him, and he shot up into the air. He knew that they were unlikely to be stupid enough to end up hurting each other like this, but he could dream.
He pointed the sword downwards, pushing electrical energy into it as rapidly as he dared. Arcs of electricity shot out of it like spikes from Kraid, fortunately heading towards the right targets most of the time. The sword was longer than he expected it to be, and although he continued to rise as he shot the electricity down, there was a period of at least a second in which the end of the sword was still easily in their reaches. If they grabbed it quickly there was a decent chance of him being flung to the floor.
”If “image is everything” why do you go around making yourself look like a prat by dressing as a playing card? And I would be in for that, if the name weren't already taken. Obviously I want you to ruin my best feature and would totally let you go for it.” Hopefully that response would be enough to distract the villain from sending him downwards. Every villain seemed to have issues thinking straight when they were angry.
He took himself a little higher into the air. If he was working to enrage, he thought he might as well go the full way. The King of Hearts had said that he wanted to kill Gabriel already, so it wasn't like the tactic would put him at any further safety risk.
”Serious question: What is a guy who controls 55 hearts doing trying to gain an axe? I would have thought the job description better suited a charity worker or even a nurse than a Viking wannabe. Heck, you could even become Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.” The reference was likely outdated, but if the taunt worked Maximus would probably be enraged beyond reason. Or at least that was what Gabe told himself to help him keep his nerve to associate a super-villain with a J-pop idol.
Hopefully the police would arrive soon. If he could draw all the anger on himself then they would have six easy targets.

The boy was afraid of his own power, it was pathetic. Maximus spent each day training be stronger and better and Gabriel was terrified of the power he'd been handed. Pathetic. Should Maximus have a child like him he would likely disown him at best, if not eliminate him. Having someone like that dilute the family genetics wouldn't do. Of course he'd need to find a woman to have said child with. Naturally Izzy came to mind first. She was beautiful, smart and powerful. Plus his animal traits coupled with her plant traits could indeed prove a powerful combination.
"Stupid child. My look is part of my legacy. You ramble on about your family and yet you yourself seem almost willing to turn your back on it. I can hear it in your voice. It's the same subtle triggers a predator keys in on in its prey. The indecision, the fear. You're playing defense, pathetic. Someone of your power could wipe me from existence and yet you attempt to use half hearted insults, why? So the police or a REAL hero can come in and stop me?"
He asked with a laugh. Mainly because it truly was laughable. The idea of the police taking him down or even a hero. Sure the Bat could prove problematic, but he'd survive to fight another day.
"What would happen BOY? What would be your legacy? What mention would you receive? I can see the headlines now. King of Hearts robs Gotham History Museum. Escapes with precious Roman-era battle axe. It will list the numbers of the dead and injured. Then mention that at best, I escaped from Gotham Officials or some Bat or another. Then as a small little line, 'A hooded boy was there and proved useless in stopping the King of murdering innocents'. Gotham doesn't mess around and expects much more of their heroes. Perhaps you best run along boy, before your name is among those of the dead."
He said with a laugh. All six watched him hover and the electricity roll off the sword. They all looked up at him at once, having all been moving and speaking in unison. While it helped hide the real one it also helped possibly prove to throw him off.
"Still with the electricity? This is your superhuman ability isn't it? This isn't magical. No, you're afraid of your magic and this is your go to move."
He said shaking his head.
"Either do something or come down here and fight like the man you wish to be."
All at once the six merged into one and he stood there, arms crossed.

”Ireallywishyou’dstopcallingmeboy.” He didn’t realise he was using magic until the end of the mantra. At least he didn't waste much effort on that.
”I hardly think they’re half-hearted, they have got a full suite of hearts to work off.” Gabe’s eyes narrowed at the King of Heart’s little speech. He was holding back to ensure no-one got hurt under his watch. His whole family had had to hold back their power from the start to protect those they cared about (saying Magneto cared about people would have been a huge mistake). But maybe it was time to stop being so regimented. No way was he going to release all his power, however. That would mean going demiurge and that was not something Gabriel was willing to do; certainly not with his experience levels. ”Because the last time my family unleashed its power every parent on Earth- and quite a few alien planets and parallel universes- was re-written and it took a literal pagan deity to undo the damage.”
It would be far worse to be remembered for hurting people than for being worthless. He hated that this man was mocking him for trying to protect these people, for trying to help them afterwards. Sure, he was inexperienced and he really was still terrified of unleashing his full power, but he needn't use what was even close to his limits to stop the King of Hearts.
He hated being drawn out by the taunts, but he hated that the man was probably right far more. He could play both sides of the offensive spectrum at once. It just meant maintaining three aspects of his powers at once. Compared to what he feared he would manage one day, this was barely anything.
”Iwanttosummonfire, Iwanttosummonfire, Iwanttosummonfi-“ Fire, in a strange pale blue colour suddenly flickered into being, running along Gabe’s hands. The heat caught the metal, and Gabe had to fight the urge to drop the over-heated surface, and instead willed the fire to die down in the hand holding the blade. He let go of the sword from one hand, allowing the other to acquire all of the fire he had produced. It took considerable effort to maintain the electricity during that, but at least there was now only one target so the effects would likely be more powerful.
Gabe made a motion as if throwing the fire downwards, clearly directing it into a close radius around Maximus, and forcing it not to leave the area lest it harm some of the already injured people further. He tried to make the fire create a dome to trap the villain in, but he was still only half-concentrating on it due to the electricity, and one of those attacks would have to give unless he was willing to risk unleashing his full power- which he wasn't.

He had a sudden urge to stop calling him boy. Interesting. He'd been manipulated enough to know when he was being controlled on some level. It was actually mildly impressive to be honest. However he would deal with that later and focus more on Gabe. He still didn't find it that threatening and wished he would actually show some power. However he got close. As the fire spread around him he raised an eyebrow.
"Now we're talking. Finally showing some of that power."
He calmly stood there as the dome of fire surrounded him. He looked around and shook his head. He reached into a compartment in his suit and pulled out a cigar. He leaned into the fire and lit it, puffing calmly. He dragged his fingers through the fire, examining the fire more carefully.
"Finally you're beginning to show some power. I was beginning to worry you had a few chants and electricity. Well, you're doing better. However as fun as this little chat has been I have places to be."
He turned and simply walked through the fire, patting a few stray flames out. He was immune to the fire, a side power from his exploding ability. Namely because it would keep him from vaporizing himself when he exploded.
"Keep the sword as a souvenir. I want you to train child. I will come and claim it soon. I only have so many of them. But perhaps you can train and we can actually have a decent fight."
An empty flying card came up to him and he quickly jumped onto it, feeling his boots click into place as the magnets activated. He turned to face him, arms crossed.
"Till we meet again Miracle Maker."
He said nod of the arm before flying through the hole in the dome as he could hear foot steps of SWAT approaching.

Gabe was somewhat repulsed by the cigar. It was a personal and minor aversion- not a big deal- but the drug, combined with the man’s casual use of the magical fire to light it, was enough to irritate him. He sent a bolt of electricity directly towards the cigar, in a half-hearted attempt to stop him.
”Fun? You just blew up a museum and you call that a fun little chat?” He would have gestured around the area, but as his hands were occupied right now, he made do with flicking the sword slightly.
”Souvenirs aren't so much my style. I’m a fan-boy, not a tourist.” Despite what he said, Gabriel did intend to practice. If Maximus was serious about wanting it back, then it was likely they would meet again in the near future, and he would rather make that meeting as hard as possible for the villain.
Gabe aimed a section of the fire at the card, but the card swiftly left, and although the fire had collided with the card, it had not had sufficient contact to really make any impact upon its function. If he was lucky he may have made enough damage to make it need a half-hour touch-up.
He tried to aim the fire again, or the electricity, but the man was gone before either attack hit him. Gabe could hear the SWAT team approaching, and flying off to follow now was unlikely to be the best course of action- annoying as that was. The team would probably want some explanation, and if he stayed he could at least offer some form of assistance if it were required- and it likely would be with the amount of destruction caused.
Gabe landed heavily on the ground, and gauged out his magical energy. He’d barely tapped into it, which was both a relief as he could easily get back home again, and a huge worry as he would have been capable of doing that trick several times over. He really hadn't been bluffing about his powers before.
Gabe literally fumed. He knew the priority was looking after the civilians, but he still desperately wanted the King of Hearts to get punished. There was really only one course of action that supported both of those traits. Help here now, and then later- at least by a few days- he could use his magic to find the king and then enact justice.
The boy sat, crossed his legs and closed his eyes. He pulled out the boline knife, making a quick and well-practiced gesture to create a pentagram in a single dexterous wrist movement, and returned the blade to his waist. He felt the shape appear in glowing light upon the floor beneath him, stretching out little extra tendrils to the fallen people. ”Iwantthemtoheal, Iwantthemtoheal…”
