There were times when Aileen really hated the fact that she couldn't drive. Right now was one of them. Maybe she would have to ask Ginnie to teach her. Out of all the Avengers, she was definitely the one who couldn't get places as fast. Ginnie and T'Shan could both fly, and she was pretty sure James could drive. Which meant she was the one who had to get a lift most of the time. Well, right now she couldn't even do that. She'd been called and told of a bank robbery, and she hadn't been able to raise any of the others. Which meant she was having to run to the bank. It was pretty undignified really, but well, she had to do what she had to do. She was in her full costume, including the mask, with her bow and quiver flung over her back. Which in total, actually weighed a fair bit and while it didn't affect her too much in a fight, made it annoying to run for more than a few minutes.
Still, she was close to the bank, and her legs were barely burning, and she was barely out of breath. Which was a good thing, considering she was expecting a fight. She stopped jogging quite so quickly, and pulled an arrow from her quiver. She wasn't sure what level of bank robbery she was expecting, the person who'd called hadn't exactly been clear. For all she knew, she could be expecting a man with a handgun, or thirty with assault rifles. But she was really hoping it was closer to the first, for obvious reasons. She stopped for a second to steel herself, but then as she turned the corner she spotted around half a dozen people sprinting from the bank, handguns in their hands. They weren't wearing any insignia she could see, so she just had to assume they were standard bank robbers. They each carried a rucksack that she could only assume were filled with cash. Well, that went what little plan she'd had. She'd hoped to be able to do something to talk them down while they were in the bank, although of course she wouldn't get into a fight around so many people. Now she had to chase after them.
There was a small crowd of people starting to form around the bank as the robbers ran, and when Aileen sprinted past, she heard cheers of "Hawkeye". Well, that was always nice to hear, but right now she had bigger concerns. In the distance, she could hear sirens, but there weren't any cops yet. The robbers had been very quick getting in and out, just like Aileen had been reasonably quick getting to there. If she was luckier, the cops would be around to help her out. Hell, if she was lucky, Ginnie or somebody would show up, and make things a lot easier for her.
The men hadn't noticed they were being chased yet, focussing on the path ahead of them. It was a New York afternoon, so the street was fairly populated, but people melted out of their path with some screams as they saw the guns. Which left Aileen a lovely corridor to follow. She had to do something to thin their numbers, however, as she couldn't take six men with guns on in the middle of the street. She was good, but not that good.
One of them was lagging behind, that was her chance! She waited until he was a good ten metres behind the others, and then loosed an arrow into his leg. He howled and fell, and mercifully the crowd ahead had thinned as people ran out of the way, leaving them a big open space, but one with cover. There weren't any people around now for maybe thirty metres, and they were still running. "Stop right there!" Aileen yelled as the men turned back to their fallen friend, but she threw herself round a corner as their guns came out. Her uniform was bulletproof but she didn't want to test it out too much. If they fired and missed, there was still a chance that they'd hit a civilian. She had to do something to buy some time. She felt in her quiver for what she needed as she heard the men talking, possibly to the wounded one, who was still yelling with pain, and grabbed a flare arrow. She notched it, and then quickly poked around the corner to fire it. She heard cries of pain and curses as it went off, but then worse, gunfire that hit the brick around the corner from her. Which meant one of them at least was still active. "Come on, cops," She muttered as she loosed another arrow around the corner, but it was a quick shot and didn't hit anything.

It was a pleasant day, by James' standards. He was out and about wandering. Lydia used to encourage James to get out of his building and do something that didn't involve punching criminals in the face. So, he went to his favorite book store and picked up a new novel and then made the trek down to his local coffee shop. After a piece of pie and a cup of coffee, he noticed a few men running by on the opposing side of the street, being chased by Hawkeye. Of course, it had to be her. Why wouldn't it? James was pretty far down on her list of favorite people. He was rated higher than Hitler but somewhere lower than Scion.
He slipped the book into his jacket and disappeared into an alley across the street to change. Moments later, Captain America bounded up the fire escape and followed the chase on the rooftops. Once he caught up, he saw that Hawkeye was pinned down by gunfire. James smirked. "Nice use of the flare arrow." He said to no one in particular. Cap touched the button that triggered his comm, switching it to the Avengers frequency.
"Hawkeye, Cap. I'm directly above you on the rooftop. There are four, possibly five targets still functional. I'm going to create a diversion so you can move to a better position. Get ready for it." He closed the mic and then activated the impact web mesh in the suit. James slipped a few 'dazzlers' from his belt pouch. They created light and sound and worked really well as a distraction. These weren't quite as strong as flashbangs or anything, but they'd help him draw fire. He tossed the dazzlers over the roof's edge and then jumped himself.
As Cap fell, he fired a grapple line from his wrist launcher. It was a design based on his mother's grapnel. He repurposed the design for himself as Winter Soldier and kept it for his Cap suit. Captain America dropped down into the group of thugs, using his shield to block the gun fire from killing him or anyone else nearby. It was his hope that by drawing the group's fire, Hawkeye could move to a new position where she could cover him.

Gunfire continued to chip the corner of the brick wall, but none of it was going to hit Aileen, and the one or two thugs who were actively firing didn't have an angle on her, so she didn't mind it terribly. If they were firing at the wall, they at least weren't going to hit any civs. Still, she was considering moving onto something a little more extreme, such as a tear gas arrow, possibly followed by a few actual arrows, and then just hitting any of them that moved, when her communicator crackled. She would be lying if she said she hadn't been hoping it was T'Shan or Ginnie, and that she was a little disappointed when she heard Captain America's voice. He just creeped her out. She wasn't entirely sure why, either. Sure, he seemed a little awkward and reserved, and his butting heads with Ginnie made Aileen gnash her teeth together, but he wasn't unfriendly, exactly. Maybe he just gave off a vibe that disagreed with her. Still, she knew better than to doubt his skills.
"Better late than never, Cap," Aileen said, trying to say it in a not unfriendly way, "And ready when you are." She wasn't sure what form the distraction would take, but James didn't seem the sort to do something subtle. Still, she wasn't expecting the whole swinging and dropping from the sky thing. Well, the thugs were definitely distracted. She used the window of time to launch a cable arrow into the high wall of the building, and let herself be pulled up. She pulled down and moved herself upwards as the cable ran out, and climbed onto the roof pretty nimbly for someone using only one arm. Before she had time to see what James was doing since he'd decided his shield could do with taking a few bullets, she pulled a blunt arrow from her quiver and fired it. She allowed herself a faint smile as it impacted nicely into the chest of one of them, probably breaking a couple of ribs and causing him to knock into an accomplice, and throw off her aim. Well that worked. She fired her second and last blunt force arrow, and saw what looked like an leg snap, the criminal who owned it buckling.
"Hawkeye to Cap, I'm on the roof, we basically swapped positions," She figured she should probably update him. She was still mainly used to solo crime-fighting, or to doing it with Ginnie, and the two of them didn't need to talk so much. In fact, she was pretty sure this was her first time solo with James. And it definitely made sense that they'd switched positions, considering their strengths. She notched another arrow and waited for an opening to use it non-lethally.

Disappointment. That's what James heard in Hawkeye's voice. Not that this was surprising. James was used to it. Hawkeye didn't openly tell him that she disliked him, but it was pretty apparent from her body language. Well, maybe this would change her mind. If not, then maybe if nothing else, he could save a teammate. Ginnie was telling him to be more of a team player, so he would do his best.
The bullets bounced off his shield as he moved forward. Cap was hoping that they would run out of ammo, sooner rather than later. Hopefully, Hawkeye would be in position and he'd have some cover. This was one of the more reckless things he'd done. Swinging into a crowd of armed men was pretty high on the list of lousy decisions. Lydia would not approve of his actions. There weren't many people James thought would, actually. Well, maybe the bulletproof crowd.
The sound of someone screaming worked to snap him out of his thoughts. Hawkeye hit someone else and James watched him go down in a thud. Someone had a broke leg and another ribs. The sound of Hakweye's voice came over the comm. James replied. "Good. You're more useful up there than I am. I'm glad you've got my back." James stepped forward with his shield and used the pause of someone reloading to smash them with the shield. The thug stumbled back and James grabbed the hand holding the gun and smashed his shield into the thug's wrist, breaking it.
The thug with the broken ribs leveled his gun at Cap. James rushed forwards and smashed the man into the wall. There was the report of small arms fire as his pistol discharged, but James smashed the shield into the man's head and watched him drop. He made a quick check. The costume held and the mesh absorbed most of it. He'd have a bruise tomorrow. "Are we having fun yet, Hawkeye?"

Aileen was painfully aware that she'd sounded disappointed, and had almost winced when she'd realised. Sure, she'd been hoping for one of the others, but she was still grateful James had shown up. She was going to have to try to get to know James better. Maybe that'd stop her feeling unsettled around him. She wasn't exactly looking forward to the thought of spending more time with James, but she at least wanted the chance to see whether or not she had any reason to dislike him, or if it was just a vibe he gave off.
She watched, mildly impressed as James kept walking through the hail of gunfire. She'd never doubted his fighting skill, that was for sure. She'd been shot at no few times, and she knew her suit could take a fair bit of gunfire, but it would leave her a little worse for wear, that was for sure. Clearly whoever had built that shield knew what they were doing. She snorted slightly as James punched a guy in the face with the shield. "Well I don't mind it up here," She said, and fired again, with a regular arrow this time, one of the criminals falling over to avoid it, "Means I don't get shot at nearly so much." If they did start shooting at her again, she'd just have to move to a building with better cover. "And course I got your back. It's good to look at and it'd be a shame if something happened to it." So sure, he wasn't her favourite person, but she still made one or two comments. Nowhere near so much as she made to T'Shan or even Ginnie.
She started forwards as the gun went off, but James had already taken the guy out. By now, she really should have gotten used to seeing people get shot and brush it off, considering who she worked with, but still...It made her tense. "You tell me, Cap," She said, "You're the one who just got shot." She notched another arrow and loosed it at one of the thugs on the floor who'd been going for his gun. An arrow through the fleshy bit of his hand changed his mind quickly, and he dropped it.

"I'm rather attached to it myself. But see, I missed out on watching your back. That's just no fun."
The red and white shield bounced off the wall as James threw it and it smashed into one of the thugs. He went to catch it, but one of the thugs pulled out a small machine pistol and opened fire before it got back. James eyes widened as the bullets hit in him suit. He felt the impact mesh surge as it attempted to compensate for all the rounds it caught. Cap stumbled back and fell into the bushes. The HUD on his mask registered seven individual hits, but there were no breaches at least. He was going to be sore tomorrow.
James pulled out his knife and his pistol. "I'll let you know, sweetheart." He took a breath and winced. One of his ribs was cracked or broken. Didn't seem like anything was too badly damaged. So far. James injected a small painkiller into his leg. He needed a minute or two for them to kick in. Cap picked his target, popping up and throwing his knife. The knife hit the thug in the thigh and he heard a satisfying scream. James could feel the pain lessening with every moment.
"Cover me. I'm about do to something stupid."
He dashed out of the bushes, tossing more dazzlers as he went. As they went off, James opened fire with his pistol, aiming for non-lethal shots. He tackled the man he hit with the knife and knocked the gun away. James hit him with a right and a left and the man went into unconsciousness. He was really hoping Hawkeye was covering him well. This was more trust than most people got from him.

School had been a half day and that left Lydia with more time to herself. All her homework had been done and now it was just time for her. She liked walking around New York with a sketch book and just sketching down whatever or whoever caught her eye. She had several pages filled with half sketches and profiles and buildings by the time she stopped at a corner crossing. People had begun running her direction, shouting something about Hawkeye and Captain America fighting bank robbers. That piqued her interest. She had never just sat back and watched one of those fights. And it bank robbers. She was sure those two could handle whatever was thrown at them.
She started heading toward the commotion, going faster when she heard gun fire. She reminded herself to be a passive observer, get civilians out of the way if need be. It was her day off. And her brother loved punching people. She got there just in time to see him go charging into the group of people. Armed wth guns. This is why he has armor, Lydia. He's stupid, not an idiot. she told herself, grabbing some idiot with a camera phone out of the way of some wide shots. He yelled at her but she didn't pay attention to him.
Hawkeye was doing a bang up job taking out the other guys, and the combo of high ground and in the middle of everything seemed to be working well for them. And she had to grin at how much he was trusting her to watch his back. He didn't do that lightly.
Of course what he DID do lightly she reckless. She wanted to yell at him when he simply charged at the guy who was ready to shoot and flinched when the gun went off. She checked him over just as he did himself and let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Lydia silently cheered at Hawkeye's accuracy, shooting the guy's hand. He won't be holding a gun again any time soon.
Then the guy with the sub machine gun fired at James, and she asking with several other people yelled in horror. He was slow to get up and she was already making her way to the front of the crowd. And then he did something stupid. She took the distraction of the dazzles to switch into her costume, not that anyone was looking at her anyway.
She looked around at the robbers on the ground, trying to see who, if anyone was still able to do some damage. One guy, wth an arrow in his leg, sat up and aimed at James's back. Was she going to wait and see how this went? Nope!
She let off one photonic blast, sending the guy rolling. "Always check your six. Isn't that what you keep telling me?"

"We'll see about you getting a look at my back after we're done," Aileen said with a faint smile, but her voice lacked some of the warmth she had when flirting with others, such as T'Shan, for example. It was just part of normal interaction for her, whether she liked the person or not. She was notching an arrow, looking for an opening when she saw a thug go for an SMG. "No!" She called out, darting to the edge of the building to stop him before he could shoot, but another thug finally spotted her and fired. Her suit took the bullet just fine, but it made her hunch over for a second and threw off her aim. The arrow she loosed missed everybody. By the time she had another arrow ready, James seemed worse for wear and had taken out the thug. Thank god he'd been wearing the suit, or there probably wouldn't be much left of him.
"Sweetheart?" She asked, an eyebrow raised, but she was glad he was okay, so she didn't sound like she minded. She notched another arrow, but on hearing what he was planning, she switched. "Go ahead," She said, and fired a smoke arrow into the floor behind him as he ran. Dense black smoke started to billow around the thugs, cutting off their line of sight from James. She was lucky it wasn't windy, or it wouldn't be nearly so effective. Still, just because they couldn't see him, it didn't mean they wouldn't shoot, so she was going to have to keep them busy. They might hit him, or worse, a civilian. She'd only fired the smoke at the two who were left standing, leaving the others on the ground, wounded. Maybe she should see about making sure they weren't a threat, but she cared more about the two active threats.
She fired arrows into the smoke, not sure where they were but firing at heights that would hopefully be below anything important. She was rewarded with a scream of pain from the smoke, and figured one of them was learning to deal with an arrow in the knee. She was taken by surprise as someone else entered the fray, and switched targets briefly, but relaxed when she saw the uniform. So another superhero had decided to show up. She had no way of getting in touch with Captain Marvel, so she decided to leave the greetings up to James. Marvel had just saved his life, after all.

Cap had done dumber things before. The throbbing pain in his ribs prevented him from remembering when, though. Alieen's voice filled his comm. She was flirting back. This was probably how she broke the tension in battle, he'd decided. He knew that she wasn't really a fan of his, so this confirmed what he thought. His voice adopted a playful tone. "Don't make promises you don't intend on keeping, Hawkeye. My little old heart just couldn't bear it."
The smoke arrow was a nice touch. He heard the questioning in her voice at the term of endearment used. It kept her on her toes at least. He used the the smoke to his advantage. James had just finished dropping the man with the knife in his thigh and recovered his weapon, when he heard a familiar sound of an energy blast, hitting someone behind him. The voice of his younger sister filled his ears. "Well, I didn't think you paid attention to any of the lectures I gave on tactics. Good to see you do occasionally listen." There was a slight smirk when he said it.
The second to last thug leveled his pistol between James eyes and he put his hands up, dropping the knife. His partner had just been disabled by a well placed arrow from Hawkeye. "Easy, there, friend." James looked behind him, eyes widening. The man, unnerved by the appearance of Captain Marvel, expected another hero to come up on him. He turned slightly, and James saw his opening. Cap brought his hand in and pushed the rifle up, reaching in with the other and using the fluidity of his motion to take the rifle away from the thug. There was a look of terror on his face as Cap smashed the butt of the rifle into his face and the man dropped.
Cap pointed the rifle at the man with the arrow sticking out of his leg. "Do you really want to try me? Are you feeling lucky, too?" The last thug threw his weapons down with little complaint. James ejected the weapon's magazine and emptied the chamber, before dropping the empty weapon on the ground. At least with no bullets, it wouldn't hurt anyone else. Theoretically.

"Yes, I do, in occasion, listen to you when you drone on." she grinned back. As the people around her backed away, Captain Marvel stepped out onto the street to join the other two heroes, only to stop dead in her tracks. It never did get any easier seeing someone level a gun at her brother, especially not in such close range. The guy looked twitchy so she didn't make any sudden movements, hoping Hawkeye had a better shot.
It seemed to be Cap's modus operandi to do dumb, risky things today as he faked out the guy pointing a gun at his skull. He took him down smoothly, severely disuading anyone else from trying anything. And that seemed to be that. No more funny business. She looked up at where Hawkeye was perched and waved.
"You can come down now, I think. Unless you're stuck." Marvel flew up to meet her, smiling her sun shine smile. "Or I could give you a lift."

Aileen smirked as he replied, shutting off the communicator for a second so she could laugh at his response. "As long as your heart doesn't stop when you see it, we'll be fine," She replied, keeping up the flirtatious tone. She had no idea if Captain Marvel could hear what they were saying, or what she thought about it if she could, but she hoped she wasn't stepping on any toes.
She started forwards when she saw the thug level a gun at James' head, notching an arrow and preparing to loose it. Was Captain Marvel going to help him out, or was she holding back? But then James did something, faked the thug out, probably, and bashed his head in with the gun. Then the gun was unloaded, and most of the thugs looked like they were down for the count. Well, they probably weren't going to be robbing banks again any time soon. "That looks like the last of them," she said into the comm as six thugs groaned on the floor.
She was prepared to have to climb down the building, due to having used her only cable arrow, but then Captain Marvel took off and landed next to her. Flying was one of those things which looked cool, no matter how much you saw it. "I wasn't stuck," She said with a wink, "But I wouldn't say no to a lift." She moved closer to Marvel, grabbing onto her gently. "Good job you showed up," She said, "I don't think Cap should take that many bullets in one day." It'd been doable with her and James on their own, but Captain Marvel showing up made things even easier. "I don't think we've met before, Captain," She commented, and stuck out the hand that wasn't holding her, "Glad you could help out."

"Well, you know... if it happens, it happens. Either way, I go out happy." James closed his mic with a smirk and looked back to Lydia. "You listen to me occasionally? Wonders never cease. That's good news at least. Good to know if I talk enough, something will stick to your invulnerable brain." He looked around and took a count of the thugs as well, opening his mic. "I concur. I see six. You're the one who chased them, so you'd know best how many there were." James knew Hawkeye had an exact count of them from the moment she picked them up, so her word that they were down was good to him.
When Lydia flew away, he leaned against a tree and took a deep breath. The pain was still there, numbed by pain killers, but still present. His suit HUD showed that he had all the symptoms of broken ribs. Huh. That did feel about right for him. He didn't want either of his partners to know that though. Judging by his ability to breathe, albeit painfully, nothing was punctured. So there was good luck there, at least. There was a voice in his comm.
"Did you ever think about dodging the bullets?" A familiar older voice. "It's just a suggestion, though."
"I had everything under control. Besides, how better to test the impact resistance in the mesh from sub-machine gun fire."
"You know, most of those tests could be done while you're not wearing the suit. Besides, it looks like you've got a broken rib or two. You're going to need a doctor."
"I'll be alright. I've got to wrap up here first. I'll be fine."
"Do that, or I'll make your sister bring you in."
"Noted, boss man."

"I would rather he not take any bullets at all, but you know, I swear his suit is magnetized." Captain Marvel tapped her chin thoughtfully, before slipping her arm around Hawkeye's waist. "Honestly I was just going to watch him make an idiot of himself but I like him in one piece." Her expression darkened only momentarily, remembering an incident not so long ago, before she'd finally convinced him to take up the shield. But it was quickly replaced with another megawatt smile as Hawkeye held out her hand. Marvel shook it, albeit awkwardly with her free hand.
"It's very nice to meet you too. You did an awesome job keeping him alive. Much appreciated." She set them down on the ground gently and with a flourish, she waved Hawkeye through an invisible airport gate. "Thank you for flying the Marvel express today, we hope you enjoyed your flight. Please remember to check overhead compartments for valuables as they may have shifted in flight."
"Marvel. Still doing the stewardess routine?" A warm voice crackled in her ear, chuckling slightly. She put a hand to her ear so Hawkeye didn't think she was just talking to random air as she started dragging the robbers over to a central location for the local authorities.
"Always. It's my schtick."
"Keep an eye on him." Marvel's head was on a swivel. There was no need to elaborate exactly who hewas. She stopped for a moment and just watched Captain America for a moment. No doubt he was at least going to be sore. SMG fire wasn't something he took often. Usually he had the shield to absorb it. But he'd taken it all in the chest, and it had sent him flying into some bushes.
"He'll tell me I'm being a worry wart or something." She looked away, grabbing another guy by the leg as he tried to crawl away.
"Then don't say anything. But-"
"Yeah yeah, he's a stubborn idiot who pushes past whatever's bothering him until it bites him in the ass." She dragged the last guy over and glared at him, making her eyes glow. It had the desired effect. He shrank into himself and looked away, too scared to think about moving. Then she looked over at her brother and stuck her tongue out at him.
"I don't believe I've told you today that you're an idiot." She looked over at Hawkeye. "You have to remind him everyday or he'll forget. Old man that he is."

Aileen smirked at the answer James gave, before shutting off her mic and turning back to Captain Marvel. "I reckon he just tries to catch the bullets with his abs," Aileen replied, laughing slightly. It was weird shaking hands while flying, but doing anything while flying was pretty awesome, so she could put up with the weirdness. "We sticking to codenames, Marvel?" She asked. Being the daughter of the original Hawkeye, she'd never bothered with a secret identity, so she wasn't exactly used to codename etiquette. She knew she was supposed to use codenames when on a job with the other Avengers, but she had a habit of slipping up, and she wasn't sure what she was supposed to do in a situation like this.
"Pleasure to fly with you, Captain," Aileen said, and then smirked as a comment came to mind, "I'll try not to disturb your upper compartments." She was tempted to make something out of the valuables comment, but she didn't want to weird the other girl out too soon. "I'll try and keep your boy alive when I can. It'll get easier when he stops trying to break bullets with his six pack." She stepped away as they both began talking into their comms, and turned to help with the clean-up. First job was dragging the knocked out and injured guys to one side and keeping them separated from their weapons. Marvel seemed to be pulling her weight, but then again she could hardly fault James. His ribs had to be giving him hell after that. She'd be smarting after a burst of fire to chest, and he didn't even have a Kevlar suit.
Her and Marvel finally had all the bad guys in a central location, and if any were awake, they were doing a good job of hiding it. She was picking up their weapons one by one now, and making a small pile. But then a thought hit her, and she smiled to herself. "Hey, Cap," She said into her mic, "I said we'd see about it, now look over here." She smirked and turned her back to him, bending to pick up one of the pistols, holding it longer than was necessary. Well, he'd helped her out, he had bad ribs, and she had promised.

James stared at his sister for a moment. "How can I forget? You keep reminding me." He looked around, taking time to scan each robber and their weapons with his HUD. His sensors were looking for any connections to known threats. After a moment, he looked up. "Marvel, Hawkeye, Hawkeye, Marvel. Stick with codename around the thugs. I don't want your names getting back to someone with more brain power than these morons."
If Hawkeye didn't want a secret identity, that was fine, but James didn't want to compromise Lydia's secret identity. This way it would seem like he was warning them both. He looked around, ribs throbbing slightly. Cracked, he finally decided, leaving the girls on clean up duty, while he assessed.
The battle wasn't just bad for the heroes. It disrupted things for the smaller, non-powered criminals too. Some villains died, but also a few crime bosses here and there. People tended to forget that. James was shaken out of his musings by Hawkeye. He gave a bit of a smirk. He thought that Alieen was joking.
"Huh. I am tempted to take a picture. It might strengthen my heart in small doses."
