JJ and his daughter Barby got out of the car. Today was his mother's birthday, so as always they went and placed flowers at the memorial. JJ was wearing a pair of black dress pants, black dress shirt and a yellow tie. Barby meanwhile was wearing a black and yellow dress. Those were the colors they always wore on this day. If anyone asked his mother's favorite color was yellow. While of course this wasn't true, she'd always seemed partial to red, it worked to help everyone believe it. They were each carrying a bouquet of yellow roses as they walked along the path. People were always here, and most didn't even think much of seeing a celebrity here. Sure some had tried to shut it down for a private tour but they'd failed miserably and had to take everything in with the 'normal' people. JJ noticed a few of the monuments they passed. Ones to various heroes and villains and who'd died in the Battle. He knew his mother's was still a block away from where they were but of course he'd go see it.
They approached the massive stone slab in the middle, a memorial to all the civilians who'd died. Most didn't know it but this thing was littered with the names of heroes. He laid the flowers down and Barby did the same. They looked over a few of the names before finding 'BARBARA GRAYSON'.
'Did Grandma go peacefully?'
"Not sure Barby. But I know she did it heroically. She didn't show fear or regret."
'Grandma was brave.'
"She sure was."
He said before picking her up and beginning to move around the monuments. It was filled with people he'd known personally which made it worse. He was grateful for the sunglasses, but also annoyed he had to wear them. He wasn't allowed to show emotion, no he was an action star and a man's man. Barby wrapped her arms around him, whether it was for balance or because she was aware of what he was going through he wasn't sure. But he didn't care. She was exactly what he needed right now.

It's my own desire. It's my own remorse. New York was such an interesting place. And it had changed so much since she was a little girl. Looking around it now, sometimes she wondered how anything had ever recovered from that giant battle. It hadn't really concerned her all that much before/ After all, she had more important things to focus on as a young blossoming lady such as learning how to fight, how to kill, how to be a weapon yet how to pretend that she was nothing more than a sweet little thing on the outside. Yes, there were many more important things. She hadn't even known of the Battle that had gone on here until recent years. But when she heard about it, she knew that the place it had all happened was one of those places that she would want to see while she was in New York. How could she not visit the place where so many people supposedly died for the betterment of such a ridiculous socialistic society. It had taken a little bit of time for her to find her way to the site. She had to take the time before to get herself looking presentable. Brunette hair, green contacts, jeans, a t-shirt sporting the logo of a band she barely knew, everything to go along with this little tourist persona. She had felt like she'd been wandering aimlessly for quite a bit of time, too, but finally she'd found it. The Battlefield. It was littered with statues of people she thought she should know, and a few of them she did. But most of them were a mystery. She was thankful for the plaques or she would never have been able to tell who was who. Kammi could hear the small voice of what seemed to be a child float on the air and, immediately, she found herself moving towards it. She was already getting ready to step into her role when she noticed them. The little girl and what looked like an older man. Father and daughter perhaps? She tilted her head as she watched them. They seemed to have personally known at least one of the people there. She was quiet as she followed behind, looking at the statues. She was sure he knew she was there. She looked up to one of the statues. It looked like it might belong to a Green Lantern. She cleared her throat to try and get the man's attention. "Did you know someone here?"413 | TNG Staff | Stealing this thread, hope you don't mind~ |

JJ continued to walk around as he held onto Barby. He looked at all the statues, remembering many of them being part of his training or just fun moments when he was growing up. He glanced over at a statue of Batgirl, knowing it was also the same spot his father's back was broken. Of course his father believes himself to be paralyzed but he and his sister know it's more mental than anything. Of course he and his sister each have different styles when it comes to coping with their father's alleged paralysis. But he did his best to push that thought from his mind and continued on his way, looking at the statues and everything.
He heard a voice from behind him and turned with a smile. He was used to being approached in public and Barby too was used to it. She usually just ignored them as they tried to get a picture and/or an autograph. Although he knew he wasn't up to autograph level just yet. Well, that would change if they knew he was also Blue Bat. But for the time being that simply wasn't the case. Which was good, he'd made enough enemies and the family had enough to make it too risky.
"Yes actually."
He said to the woman who approached. She was cute, in a sweet and innocent way. Questionable taste in music in his opinion but otherwise not too terrible. Of course he also wasn't looking for a date just now. He had more important things on his mind. Not to mention he was still holding out some hope for a certain someone.
"My mother and grandfather were some of the civilians who got caught in the initial first attack. What about you? Did you know someone here?"
He knew it was a sort of dumb question. So many people died as a result of the Battle that almost everyone knew someone or was only a couple degrees separated from someone who died. But he also knew that some had managed to get lucky enough and not have to bury anyone because of this. He on the other hand lost almost his entire family.

It's my own desire. It's my own remorse. When the man turned, she swore he seemed somewhat familiar, at least in appearance, though she couldn't place her finger on it. What she did know was it definitely wasn't from her research into the known heroes and like of North America. No, this was decidedly something very different. Nothing from personal experience but perhaps on the television? Something like the news, that would make sense. She seemed to listen and half watch it when she was sitting around the hotel room, awaiting various test results. But without a definite idea, she didn't want to really ask if she knew him from somewhere. Even if the answer was obvious: No. She tried to offer a small smile to the little girl with him, a slight wave of her hand before focusing on the man again. So he did know some of them. She wondered if that meant he was friends or family with any of the deceased here. She knew of some of them, just what gleamed from research or what her parents might have told her, but that was about it. She didn't know any of them from personal experience. Nor did she really care to know any of them from personal experience. She knew all the people she needed back in Germany. These socialistic wannabe heroes really didn't hold all that much merit for her, but she didn't let these thoughts show. She kept everything, right down to her heartbeat and breathing under control. Her voice still carried the neutral accent she'd picked up when she'd been doing some research out in the Mid West. She preferred to keep identities when she had one picked. Especially in case she ran into anyone she'd already encountered in this city. Besides, her current alias was too beautiful to even want to change the way she was portraying herself. He started talking about how some of his family had been apart of the civilians who'd died and she winced at that, turning her head away to look at the statue. "I'm... I'm sorry for your loss, sir." She paused before shaking her head. "Not that I know of, but I don't really know. I'd never really been close with any of my family. Even if one of them was represented here somewhere, I wouldn't even know that they'd have passed. I don't really know if that makes me lucky or not, though." She turned her body completely to approach the memorial of Kyle Rayner she'd been staring at, reaching out to touch it lightly. "But I guess no one was really lucky... Losing all of those heroes in the Battle. Even if we didn't know them, they were still good people. Too good to lose."There's a room where the light won't find you.

He noticed some sort of fascination she had with the Kyle Rayner statue. There were a variety of reasons for this. She could be a Green Lantern, new and not up to sharing her identity. With such bright green eyes it wasn't a terrible theory. Of course she could also be from Los Angeles or New York and was aware of him and admired him. However her accent didn't seem to fit either. He guessed maybe Mid-West. Kansas or Iowa even. Of course she could just be another one of his female admirers. Not the first time he'd met a female with a crush on Rayner. JJ didn't see the appeal, but then again he'd always found the Sapphires more attractive than the Lanterns.
He noticed her trying to place his face, not the first time he'd encountered that. He was far from a major star, for now. Of course talk of him playing Nightwing in the upcoming Batman Inc funded Bat-Family movie was driving him up. He was getting more calls for auditions and offers, it was nice. But he also knew if he failed in this movie his career would suffer greatly. However her not recognizing him right away, or perhaps caring who he was, was always a shot to the ego.
"Well sad as it may be I'd be surprised if you didn't share some relation to one of the dead here. Even friend of a friend. Such a massive loss of life is bound to impact countless people."
He said shaking his head. He knew Barby likely had some sort of insight to add but opted against it, at least for now. She was extremely intelligent for her age, or most ages really. It tended to throw some off.
"Yeah, but they were too good, perhaps better than we deserved. They made the ultimate sacrifice and luckily it wasn't in vain as they won."
'They were the good we needed as well as deserved. We just need to hope that should a threat like that rise again we have enough heroes ready for the same sacrifice.'
Barby said calmly as she held onto JJ. JJ simply smiled and nodded his head.
"I suppose so. Even though that sounds like a line from a movie. Anyways, I'm JJ Grayson."
He said with a smile. Of course he also purposely didn't share his daughter's name. Sure it wasn't a secret but he liked keeping her out of the public eye as much as possible.
