Sitting in the library, Mal tapped along to Dinah Gray's newest single as she flipped through an old book on meteorology. Cheesy and cliche, yeah she knew it. But she figured it was a good way to spot her. And it never hurt to brush up on how her powers affected things. Could learn some useful tricks to implement next time she was out with Aaron. Or on this little caper she had in the works. She knew the guy she had contacted was on a different level than she or Aaron, and that's why she'd gotten his number out of Aaron's phone. He told her all about his run in with "Eastwood" and she had to admit he did have a certain style. And while she liked pulling jobs with Aaron, his dramatic flare could attract more attention than she wanted.
She debated how to approach him, but from Aaron's story, anything but upfrontness would probably get her shot. She didn't feel like seeing who could get a shot off quicker so she had messaged him with the basics and to meet up if he was interested in more. All she really needed was muscle for this plan. She had everything else; time, location, plan. She just couldn't haul it all alone. Which ticked her off because she was going to have to share her haul, but she couldn't do it alone. She hoped he came here to meet her. She had chosen a public place to meet so he couldn't do anything crazy, but she had her weather wand just in case.
She hoped the Red Hood was as good as his reputation.

A library. Owen hadn't been to one in a long time. Not that the Gotham Public Library where he lived was of much use these days. The branch down in Suicide Slums wasn't fairing so well in that part of town. He'd been interested to get a text from an unknown number on his phone. Very few people had his number and the phone was encrypted. They did mention that they were a friend of Trickster's.
That alone was concerning.
Owen walked through the shelves, humming an old Blues tune: Born under a Bad Sign. He'd swapped out his domino mask for a set of sunglasses and was wearing his body armor and tunic under a button up shirt and jeans. His guns were tucked in his jacket. The public meeting was smart. Neither of them could do anything in public without risking collateral damage. He grabbed a book of his own off one of the shelves and walked over to the girl.
After a moment, he pulled out a chair and sat at the table setting down a book on music and opening it. He spoke in a low tone. "Not every day someone randomly seeks me out. Usually, that means they want something. Or they want to kill me. Which of those are you interested in?"

Mal spotted the guy on the edge of her vision and her hand involuntarily gripped the book she was reading. She didn't look his way, trying to act nonchalant as he walked up. He looked like a guy she'd walk across the street to avoid, no matter she had enough powers to turn him into a smouldering pile of ash. She could see why Aaron called him Eastwood. She was not feeling lucky.
She continued to try and remain cool, but the whole room started to turn cold. Taking a deep breath, she pulled one of her head phones out of her ear and turned the page as he sat down. She kept her eyes on the book, even though she had a white knuckle grip on it. She leaned back in the chair, slumping down a bit to seem more relaxed.
"Well, if I wanted to kill you, I wouldn't have invited you here. So, obviously I want something, Eastwood." She put the book down to look at him all dramatically, like she'd seen in movies. She was still nervous though, and the air in the library, beside being cold, seemed to be electrically charged. (this didn't work out so well for the guy trying to put on his sweater, he got a lovely case of static shock). This was the first time she'd asked for outside help and she wasn't sure how well it would go. But he'd gotten Aaron out of that sh*tstorm with the stupid baseball in one piece so she could be reasonably sure he wasn't going to screw her over.
"It's a simple proposition. I've got a two man job. I need a second man."

"It's not a movie. Relax. You called me here and I came. I'm not going to kill you or hurt you unless you try it first. So, don't worry about impressing me. Anyone who has the guts to ask for a meeting with me after knowing who I am and what I can do already impresses me."
The temperature thing was the first thing that Owen noticed. It was just a little too chilly too quickly to be an air conditioner malfunction. Cryomancer? Weather manipulation? He'd inquire in a little bit. "Let's face it, you're a woman. It's been my life experience that they don't tend to call or text me unless they want something." Owen was calm and tried to radiate calmness. He wasn't really concerned.
He knew that if someone wanted to reach out to him, he would hear them out before turning them down. Owen cracked open the book about music and paged through it. "You have my attention. Tell me more about this job. Clearly, you're asking me because I've already seen your friend's skills and he probably mentioned mine. Give me the run down."

Taking a big breath, Mal calmed down and relaxed a bit more, sitting back up and adjusting the goggles on her head, she clasped her hands together and looked at him. The temperature evened out a bit in the area, though she was still apprehensive. He was an actual bad guy, he played with the big boys. Her and Aaron, at least in her mind, were still small time. Hadn't done much outside of Central City or Keystone. But maybe, just maybe, she could learn a thing or two from all this.
"Well, believe me...I don't want that. Not from anyone." She wrinkled her nose in disgust. "But...you're right. He did tell me, at length, about your skills. And they seemed better suited than his for this particular job. He's pretty theatrical. I'm sure you can appreciate not attracting attention. So, knowing that, there is a shipment I wish to intercept. Without alerting some nosy speedsters. I have a plan, I just don't have muscle. I'm not exactly a close quarters type of person." Which was true, she couldn't throw a punch to save her life. She could throw lightning bolts and snowballs just fine, but nothing physical. She usually freaked out. And her freak outs were generally pretty disastrous.
"It's simple, really. I stop the truck outside of town and we," she waved her hand carelessly. "...simply relieve them of their burden. And of course I'll split it with you. 80/20." That was a lowball offer and she damn well knew it, but she couldn't exactly offer him something good without negotiating first. That would be ridiculous.

Owen observed her mannerisms. He watched Mallory take a deep breath and the temperature started to change again. That clarified a few things for him. She was nervous and the temperature was changing too fast to be mechanical. She probably didn't have full control over her powers just yet. That wouldn't be a very good combination. He rolled his eyes beneath the sunglasses.
"I didn't mean it like that. It's been my experience that if it's not that, they want money, or favors. Or to kill me. That's what I meant. You're a nice girl, but not my type. So don't worry yourself there."
The wheels in his mind turned as he drew out the plan in his head. As Mal spoke, Owen drew up a rough sketch in his brain. The Flash was going to be an interesting variable. Her powers would too. Hood would need to know how in control of them she was and what her limitations were, so he could plan it out. He raised an eyebrow at the lowball figure.
"Wait... Let me get this straight. You want me to help you with this and keep certain scarlet speedsters out of your hair and you're going to lowball me with 20%? Oh, sweetheart. If you want to play with the pros then you have to pay like the pros. 40/60 split. Better deal than you'd get with someone like Deathstroke or Deadpool."

Mal couldn't help it, she laughed. She supposed it was a valid concern, this was Central City after all. The Flashes were something to take into account when planning anything. But this was also her city, she knew how it worked. So if course she had factored them into her plans. Mainly it hinged on them not realizing there was a problem they thought they needed to solve.
"No, no no no no, you're not here for Mr. Too Friendly and Overly Optimistic or his grumpy sidekick. While they tend to ruin my plans, they don't generally tend to carry guns. I may be a lot of things, but I'm not bullet proof.....also I still haven't figured out how to get the back door open on that stupid van."
She had everything planned out, except that. She knew the time the truck would be passing by her chosen spot, that they radioed back for any unscheduled stop, and what protocols were in place for most situations. She could, conceivably do this on her own if she wanted to tear the whole van apart, but that would attract more attention than she wanted. And the last thing she wanted was attention of the speedy variety.
"So...since you won't have to deal with speedsters, let's say 75/25. And if they do show up, they'll be my problem. Besides, 25% is a pretty big pay day for what we're grabbing, provided you can move it. And that's only one thing they're carrying. Could be other stuff in there you could grab." Mal had several fences she trusted to move diamonds. And these were all uncut, raw and easier to move. Of course getting them cut in order to move them would be a dent in the profits, but it was better than recutting them in order to avoid suspicion. She'd do a little at a time, not needing money all at once. Well that and she liked looking at them.
"As for asking Deathstroke, well, he'd either laugh at me, then do the job, or kill me, then do the job. Deadpool? I wouldn't ask him for the a same reason I didn't ask Trickster. Subtle doesn't seem to be his style."

"The door is the easy part. So, you want me for muscle then?"
The question hung in the air. It was an odd thing. Usually, people hired Owen to do the entire package. It was very rare that he was only ever hired to be the hitter. But he supposed that was to be expected. The way these Central City rogues worked, it usually involved no deaths. He'd make sure to clarify that at some point. She was good at bargaining. That was for sure. He gave the kid credit, she knew her haggling techniques.
Red Hood leaned forward, eyes still hidden behind the sunglasses. "So, let's get this straight. You want me to be a lock pick and a glorified meat shield for about 25 percent." He let out a little chuckle. Owen liked her. She had some audacity to haggle with him. Few people ever did. He just named a price and they either paid or they didn't.
"I like you, kid. You've got guts. Most people either take my price or I shoot them. Very few people try to haggle for my services." There was a pause as Red Hood gave her a smile. "You're right about both of them. They'd both probably kill you. Only one's more subtle than the other. We'll call it 35 percent, which is more than a reasonable cut for what you're asking. I'll open the door, take bullets and any other incidentals you need. Including helping with the speedsters if need be."

Mal resisted the urge t jerk back as he leaned forward, still just a little intimidated by him. Ok, maybe not just a little. He was the Red Hood; his reputation proceeded him. But she had to remain unphased, lest he sense weakness. He actually did kill people for a price. She let out a breath through her nose she didn't realize she was holding when he said he liked her. She cracked a girn at him, figuring she could settle for 35%. Mal had been aiming for 30%, but she justified the extra 5% for putting up with Aaron and keeping him in one piece.
"Well then, I think we have a deal. Meet me at this address in three days, at that time, and it should give you enough time to gather whatever supplies you need." She pulled out a piece of paper from her jacket and placed it on the table. It was a place she used infrequently to set up any sort of plans she had. She didn't like using it at all as it was where she'd lived with her dad, but she knew it was abandoned and outside of the city proper, near to where she'd decided to take on the truck. It would probably take her two and a half days to work up the nerve to get over there. But it was useful as a fallback point. The old man had to be useful for something after all.
Three days, came and went and Mal found herself staring at the house from the outside, arms crossed as she paced. She didn't want to go inside yet. She didn't want to go in alone. So she waited. Waited for the sound of someone approaching off the road and down the long dirt driveway, the air around the area getting cold and dry. She stuck her hand in her pocket, feeling the weather wand there and taking a small amount of comfort in it's presence. She knew she shouldn't rely on it as much as she did, but it was just easier to focus with it instead of on her own.
She looked toward the road at the sound of an approaching vehicle.

A small smirk fell over his lips. "You have yourself a deal." Owen took the piece of paper and slipped it into his pocket. Three days would be more than enough time to gather the equipment he needed. Hell, he could probably steal whatever he wanted from Dick's stuff as well and the crimson Archer wouldn't notice until he came down from his latest bender. Owen made a quiet note to talk to him about the tiger in the apartment from last week.
"Three days. This address. Yes, that will be fine. I will be able to gather everything we need. Now, please do me a favor. If anything changes, I need to be notified immediately. I don't like surprises. And this kind of job isn't a fun time for anyone when surprises happen." Owen stood up and took the book with him, giving her a little salute and wandering off.
Three days later:
The motorcycle pulled up to the address. Owen was fully loaded. Three days had given him enough time to restock everything, plus some fun extras his friend Mr. Locke had been nice enough to provide. He also had a pair of breaching charges and a high powered cutting laser like the kind he tried to steal from STAR Labs. He missed that little ray gun, but this would work in a pinch.
Instead of the standard, t-shirt and jeans with body armor underneath, Red Hood was wearing a black and red variation that looked more like a Robin suit that was much more body armor than costume. He didn't use this suit except for serious jobs, mostly because it was a pain to maintain and he was on a budget. The suit was the best tech that he could steal, buy and otherwise piece together.
Red Hood got off the bike. "Are you going to hang around here all day, kid? Or did you plan to go have some fun with me?"

Mal took a minute to stare at Red Hood as he got off the bike. He was definitely well equipped. Well, that was understating it. He looked like he was ready for war. She suddenly felt massively under dressed for their little outing. Of course she didn't really have anything like he was sporting. She had her suit, which regulated her temperature when she was messing with it, the wand, her small (usually unloaded) revolver, and taser. The only thing she'd spent any money on was her goggles, which sat on top of her head at the moment. Most times she spent money on food, maybe some books and her media player. The rest got squirreled away or spent making Aaron laugh. This was Central City after all, not Gotham. She hadn't really needed an entire armory to do what she did. But, as she had noticed before, he was on a whole other level.
"Uh...yeah. Fun. Right!" She picked up her backpack and walked over to meet him. "You sure you need all that...stuff? There's two guards, not twelve. And no Bats. Though I guess if you're gonna be a glorified meat shield, you might as well draw all the aggro with a look." Mal grinned at him, poking lightly at his body armor. He did look like a walking tank. She supposed her idea of preparation and his were a bit different. She had set up the trap fairly well, she thought. The tree she had prepped just needed a final push, which she would provide via lightning strike. She'd also provide radio interference with that, keeping the air charged, using the wand to control everything.
"It's insulated right? I'm gonna be playing around with static and lightning, I don't need you taking yourself out."

As Mallory checked him over, Red Hood gave her a cursory scan. She wasn't wearing body armor. He double scanned just to make sure. Nothing that would provide protection from gun fire. The girl had a gun and a taser as well as her wand. The gun was a .38 by the look of it. A Saturday night special, from the looks of it. Owen sighed softly. He wasn't being paid enough for this kind of job. She might have had some kind of meta powers, but Owen was starting to doubt she was anything more than an amateur player.
A chuckle came out from under his helmet. "Darling, this kind of preparation keeps you from getting killed. I notice you have no body armor of any kind. What keeps you from getting shot? Besides hoping? If someone started shooting at me, this thing can take any fire up to a .50 cal round. That or higher pretty much ensures that I'm going to die anyway. Just be careful. I don't feel like doing any first aid. That costs extra."
Owen rummaged around and pulled a lightweight bullet proof vest out of his saddle bag, handing it to her. "This should protect you from anything up to a .45. Try not to get shot. It's bulky. Put it on and test out the weight." He took a look at the suit, then back at her. "This suit is insulated. It's also designed to generate a taser pulse to keep people from unmasking me. It'll hold up against your lightning. Unless you try to hit me with too much. Then I'll probably just die. Which will annoy me. So don't fry me."

Taking the vest from him, Mallory turned it over curiously before slipping it over her head. "Well, normally, there is no getting shot at. That's usually a thing on the to do list. 'Don't get shot at.' Which usually means cause big, ugly distraction for people with guns to go worry about and go take what I want while they're busy. And, it works out. Because I deal with speedy idiots accosting me for my phone number, not crazy mob guys trying to take each other out." She looked down at the vest, about three sizes too big and tried to make it tighter. It didn't seem too cumbersome, so she gave a little test to see if it would throw her off when flying. Gathering a small wind current, she pushed herself up about a foot in the air moving around to see if it threw off her balance. Satisfied, she set her feet back down and did final checks of her other equipment.
At the mention of first aid, she remembered the kit in her pack. She had that for Aaron. She was always patching him up for one reason or another. She pulled it out and checked it over one more time. She had restocked after last time and everything still seemed to be there. The talking was good, giving her something to focus on besides the house behind her like she had been earlier. But was still giving her second thoughts about hiring him to help. If only because he was making this whole thing seem like a dumb idea. The wind started to pick up, kicking up leaves and such and she took a deep breath, letting it out in a frustrated sigh.
"Yeah, I don't plan on hitting you with the lightning. I'd like to avoid that. You won't be the biggest metal object in the vicinity, so I think you'll be ok." She looked at her watch then back at the road. "Well, I think it's show time. That tree isn't going to fell itself."

Owen listened as she tried on the vest. Mallory was proving to be an interesting character. He was being paid to keep her alive though and that's what he would do. Red Hood shook his head soberly. "Yeah, funny story: Nobody intends to be shot. It's lousy and it sucks. I've seen stray bullets kill people who weren't even in the line of fire. So, it's too big, and a little cumbersome, but it might save your life. And that's one of the things you're paying me for."
If the job went well and he decided that he liked the way Mallory operated, he decided that he'd get her a vest that was in her size. She'd been respectful and brazen. He liked her and figured that he'd give her a little parting gift if she kept it up. The vest didn't seem to keep her too off balance. That was good. This might go decently.
Red Hood reached out and placed a hand on Mallory's shoulder, giving it a soft squeeze. "Hey, you'll do fine. This is what you're paying me for. I'm making sure that you're prepared for every outcome. We have this well in hand. The plan you laid out is solid, as long as we stick to the framework, we'll be golden." Though the smile wasn't visible, it was apparent in his voice. He wasn't going to let her nerves get them both killed.
"Besides, no one ever plans on getting struck by lightning. That's sort of the point." Red Hood laughed and took up his position.

"Yeah, but if you do, you get a wicked looking scar you can tell all the girls about." Mal grinned, pulling her goggles down and turning on her night vision. She knew most plans didn't survive first contact with the enemy, but having several back up plans was always a good idea. She was his back up plan, really. Her plan was flexible enough to survive some changes or surprises. She just hoped nothing major went wrong. Something always went wrong, but that was usually accounted for. Major mess ups led to problems that usually led to using the medical kit or kidnapping a doctor. She didn't feel like kidnapping today.
"Follow me, I can show you where to stash your bike." Mal floated up above the tree line to look around, checking her watch one last time and looking for the truck up the road. She spotted it's headlights and grinned. Right on schedule. She looked back down at Owen and waved, signaling him to follow her as she flew above the road. She flew slower than normal, so he could keep up without having to take his attention off the road before slowing to a stop and hovering down to a small side road within walking distance of her tree. This was it. She was ready to do this.
Mal pulled out the weather wand as Owen killed his engine. She looked down at her watch one more time before spotting the headlights. She took a deep breath before pointing the wand at the tree. A thick fog started to roll out, covering their position even more before she started a mental countdown. "And here...we....go." Lighting struck the tree, causing it to fall over and crash into the middle of the road. The truck had to slam on it's breaks to not smash right into the tree. The screech of their tires was her next cue, sending another bolt of lighting at the car and watching the lights flicker and then go out. The radio, she knew, had it's own battery just in case things like this had happened. So she kept the air charged, causing so much interference, the radio was seemingly useless. She tapped Owen as his signal to go while she made the fog thicker, hearing the guards inside the cab complain about cell service.
She followed Owen as the door to the cab opened so the guard could get a better signal. About then is usually where a plan falls apart. She just hoped it stayed together.
