An excited thrill passed through Melody as she stepped through the door of the music shop, hearing the electronic tingle to let the owner know someone had arrived. Playing instruments had never been one of her strong points, but growing up, her "parents" had had more than enough money to put her through stage school growing up, and in addition to learning acting, singing and dancing, she'd been taught basic music there. So while she preferred acting and singing, sometimes it was nice to just play something.
The problem was that her and Josie didn't have instruments at theirs. They didn't exactly tend to rob places such as music stores, and she felt like she already asked Josie for so much, she didn't want to add a piano onto that list. Besides, it wasn't like she had to do too much to find somewhere to play. And besides, sometimes it was nice to do stuff by herself. It was why she sometimes co-opted some clowns and did bank robberies solo. What had caused the sudden urge to play some music, Melody wasn't sure. She was in a sort of calm mood so far today, and that was so rare it was nice to do something relaxing that she didn't get to do very often.
The owner greeted Melody as she stepped through and asked if she needed help, but Melody waved her away. She knew what she wanted, and it was so close. The stool to the demo piano was uncomfortably warm and felt like somebody had been sitting there recently, but Melody didn't care about that. The owner looked over interestedly as Melody settled in front of the piano, but Melody blotted her out. She just wanted to play.
She was slightly rusty as she hit the first few notes, and they were slightly out of time, but she got through the intro and really hit her stride as she started to sing.
"It's a god awful small affair," She began, her voice flat for the first couple of syllables, but then the hours of lessons paid off, and she started to get more confident as her singing got more solid, "For the girl with the mousy hair..." 'Life On Mars', by the late David Bowie was one of the songs that she knew both the piano and the lyrics to, so she was going to make the most of it.
By the time she got to the end of the song, practically belting out the last "Saaaaiiiilooooors, fighting on the dance floor...." and hammering the keys, there were several people in the shop, listening and applauding. It made her feel proud as she finished the song. She was about to launch into another one, maybe 'Ashes to Ashes', when the shop owner came over.
"I'm sorry," She said, "But you have to stop using the demo instruments now. Somebody else might want a turn."
Melody opened her mouth to argue; so much for her calm good mood that day. Before she could, however, anger overtook her, and applause turned to screams of horror as she threw the shop owner hard enough against the store display to shatter the glass onto the street outside.
