May was working hard on her psychology degree. Sure she worked hard fighting crime and making a difference that way but this was an entirely different matter. In psychology she could help in a much bigger scheme. Of course the main aspect was she wanted to try and help her mother with her episodes. That way she could come out of there and return to Jean Grey's. That was May's dream, to have her come home. Her current trip to Aileen's apartment was just part of this goal, in order to help people. She'd met up with Aileen Barton and heard about all of her issues. Between the duplicate James kidnapping and her issues with love and so forth. May wanted to help her for a wide variety of reasons. One the one hand everyone should have love, whoever that was with, plus she could help a fellow hero move on with what had happened to her. May didn't know enough about what had gone on, just basics, but hoped to find out. She packed her backpack with a notebook, some ink blots and a change of clothes as she swung towards Aileen's apartment. May had debated on just where to have the proper first meeting. May had met with a few people here and there to help out and had also become a sort of unofficial shrink of some teams, including Jean Grey's. She'd taken over an old classroom that had been sound proofed and was her unofficial office. She had made a habit of making sure the people were comfortable, something she'd extended to Aileen too. Drink, smoke, whatever clothing, just so long as it was private, just the two of them. May was coming over as Spider-Girl in order to sort of ease the tension. Aileen would know a secret on her now. Well there was that and the fact that May hated driving and refused to take public transportation. As she swung she latched onto the wall of Aileen's apartment building and quickly crawled towards her apartment. She had asked Aileen to keep a window open and quickly flipped into the apartment. She'd used Aileen's scent to easily find it. WHich was a plus since on a warm day a lot of windows were open. "I just gotta change quick and we'll get to it." May changed in the bathroom into a pair of short jean shorts, flip flops and a black Tri-Gun tank top. She had her bag over her shoulder as she used her sense of smell to find Aileen. "We can start whenever you like Aileen."

Aileen really wasn't sure about the thought of talking to a psychologist, even a student. Sure, it could probably help her out, but there were things she just did not want to talk about it that she could be sure would almost certainly come up. T'Shan, Evil James, and especially her dad. Some things just hurt too much for Aileen to open up to anyone about them, even Ginnie. After her dad had died, she'd been recommended to see a psychologist, and had gone to all of one session before ditching out. She'd accepted this offer on an impulse, and already she was beginning to think she might be regretting it.
At least she hadn't had to go to some cold, clinical building to do it, sitting on opposite sides of an imposing table on some sort of too-soft chair while she answered questions and some psychologist took notes. This, in her own apartment, was better. She'd have gone for the Avengers Tower, where she felt the most comfortable, but Ginnie sometimes got irate about her inviting people without clearance in, and she sometimes got into arguments with JARVIS about whether those people were coming into the building or not, and it was too much hassle altogether. What to do with herself, Aileen didn't quite know. She started on a chair, her legs up on the table, and then changed to curling her knees up on the chair, and then laying on a sofa, and then sitting up. Maybe she needed to change. Were her shirt, skirt and tights too formal? Would something else be too informal?
Of course, the worrying was fairly pointless. There was no need to think about what she'd do with a normal psychologist because this wasn't going to be a normal counselling session, and her counsellor was far from normal. Perhaps it'd help that the other girl was a superhero. Spidergirl, apparently. Might make it easier to talk about things most civilians would struggle to grasp.
It was expected, but Aileen still gasped as someone jumped in through her window. "Hi," She said, and then nodded as the girl went to change. It'd be weird to have a counselling session with somebody in skintight latex. When she came out, Aileen was relieved she wasn't terribly more overdressed or underdressed than she herself was. "Well uh...what should we talk about?" She asked, not really being used to the procedure.

As May approached where Aileen was sitting she could smell her anxiety. She never could truly explain the smell it was a mixture of sweat and mangoes. Or perhaps Aileen had used some mango lotion, body wash or shampoo. It didn't smell like any form of cleaning thing but she could be wrong. Her mind wasn't exactly focused on any air freshener or any other form of cleaning product. She knew this would be tricky, not just because her grades were focused on this. This was one of her first chances to truly help someone other than beating up criminals, or who SHIELD said was a criminal. Honestly she hated being part of the Suicide Squad and was beginning to be disenchanted with them. But they'd given her the power to stop her mother's rampage, even though parts of that still didn't add up.
She smiled a bit and sat down in a chair near where Aileen was. She wanted something very informal and comfortable. Hence why she'd pretty much let Aileen set the location, well for the most part. She'd given her a few choices of places. She'd prefer not to do it at the Avengers mansion, since they might be recorded. Plus if she ever went there she wanted it to be to apply for membership.
"For starters let me apologize for being late. Someone tried robbing a diner as I was going by."
She said fishing out a note book and blue fluffy pen that was almost the same shade as her hair. She had always gotten points off from that but didn't care. She never got the concept of being dressed up and imposing as a psychologist. The idea was to get people to open up and relax.
"But anyways. All we gotta do is keep it simple. Just talk about whatever you want, whatever is on your mind."
She said crossing her legs and sitting back in the chair with a smile. She might have been trying TOO hard to be relaxed and non-chalant but she didn't care. As far as she was concerned this was just two friends chatting.
"Why not tell me about your friends and any loves. Usually a good place to start. Most books say family but family for heroes is...usually rough."

Aileen still wasn't convinced that this was a good idea, and she didn't want to admit that she needed counselling, but she'd already come this far, she might as well go ahead with it. It seemed pretty stupid to get the shrink in the room with her, and go "nah, actually, nevermind". And besides, May seemed nice. Even if she didn't work through many issues, she could always see her again to just hang out. She rearranged her skirt as she sat back in her chair. She'd chosen one with a bit of a recline, but now she was worried that that wasn't very engaging, or too much like the stereotypical psychiatrist chair, or that there was something wrong with it. She was just overthinking things out of panic. She was fine, May wasn't going to care.
As May explained her delay, Aileen could sympathise. Too many times she'd been going somewhere and she'd turned up late with a split lip and some form of bruising or rips in her clothes because she'd come across people doing something they shouldn't. Or yet more when she'd been somewhere and had to drop everything because she'd gotten a call. You made great friends when you were a superhero, but it didn't do wonders for your social life. "I hope they're rethinking their life choices in a police station somewhere," She said lightly.
Aileen raised her eyebrows at the matching hair and pen, but a smile broke out across her face as the thought about how ridiculous it would look if she brought a ginger pen along with her whenever she had to write things down. Honestly she was happy it was as relaxed as it was. If she'd been in some strict, formal setting where she felt like there were going to be right and wrong questions for everything May asked her, she'd have probably left already.
Aileen's tongue went dry when family was mentioned. "Yeah," She said, swallowing, "Let's not...talk about that until now." Not that friends and loved ones would be much easier. "Well everyone knows some of my friends. Iron Maiden, the Scion, Captain America." She tried to say them all equally, but she couldn't hide some of her emotion at T'Shan or James. "Then also Nightwing, Captain Marvel, Dinah Grayson..." She was careful to mention Nightwing and Dinah separately, "My friend Tessa. There's a Teen Titan who's kinda adorable. My uh....my friend Flo." She noticeably stumbled over that one.

She laughed lightly as Aileen asked if the criminals who'd slowed her down were in a police station. May simply shook her head and glanced over at a clock.
"Well, at this point they're likely still hanging from a street light. Or at the very least they're in the back of a squad car. I don't have the Avengers' SHIELD connections so I have to rely on NYPD. Not the best, but it works."
Of course she actually did have SHIELD connections but that was through HuRTs, or the Suicide Squad as they were better known. She had no desire to bring them into her basic heroics, those were separate. The last thing she wanted was including them in this aspect of her life too.
"Trust me Aileen, no parents. They're off the table....for now. Sorry but eventually it all comes back to family. Worst case scenario I'll get you hammered. Hell, I probably won't even take advantage of you.....no....no I would, I'm a terrible person who gets lonely."
She said with a shrug. She sat there calmly as Aileen began naming off her friends and so forth. May simply nodded her head, writing a couple things down.
"You know Dinah Grayson? Cool, I know one of her friends, Danny McCoy. As for Captain Marvel, I roomed with her evil version. As for everyone else, we all know Scion...been trying to know him for awhile now. But your...friend Flo huh? Why don't we talk about Flo? Seems like there's a reason she get separated from everyone else. Otherwise you would've thrown her in with Nightwing and them. So tell me would you say there's more to your relationship or is it purely sexual?"

Aileen typically didn't even call SHIELD to deal with criminals she'd arrested. She just tended to lead them to the police station. Or, if they were unconscious, or uncooperative, or annoying, she'd drag them. It was one of the perks of being a recognised superhero, that nobody arrested you for attempting vigilante justice. And of course, the one time somebody had tried, she'd gotten off scot-free and made a best friend, so really, she'd won out that time. "Suppose that web is handy for stuff like that," She said. Honestly, if she could do that, she probably would at least once, but the only thing she had that could really manage it was a cable arrow, and they were really expensive to make and broke pretty easily.
A sigh of relief came from her as May promised her that parents were off the table. She had barely talked about him in ten years, she didn't see a reason to start now. Her jaw tightened, however, at the "eventually". She didn't like the sound of it so much. "No parents," She insisted, but forced a smile at May's joke. "I can think of worse things." Sure, May could get her hammered all she wanted, but Aileen was pretty sure it'd take an act of god to get her to talk about that subject.
It had faded for a bit, but the feeling like she was under scrutiny increased as May started to take notes. Of course, it was important, but it was still weird, and it left Aileen feeling like she had to be careful with what she said. "She's cool," Aileen said, "We've only hung out a couple of times, and I don't actually listen to her music, but I like her." And then as May pretty easily tore through Aileen's attempt at including Flo casually, heat rose in the archer's cheeks and the feeling that she had to watch what she said increased. "I never said...." She began, and trailed off. "I just...." Nope, there was no getting out of this one. Aileen sighed. "We're friends. We hang out, we watch Netflix, we have dinner. We sometimes do it. We're not dating." It was great spending time with Flo, and the other girl was awesome - criminal career aside - but she didn't want to date her.

She couldn't help but smirk as she watched Aileen realize she had been trapped. Yes it was a solid set up and May knew it would work. It was a simple matter of being able to watch, recognize and read everything. It was possible Flo was nothing more than just a friend like she said she was. But it seemed clear Aileen held her seperate from everyone, it was just all a matter of figuring it all out. Aileen likely wouldn't just come out and say the whole thing so May would need to work to read between all the lines. Aileen was hiding a lot of stuff, and it wasn't just family things. But May would get to the bottom of it, eventually. It may take a few sessions but May would figure her out.
"Netflix and Chill, always fun. So you seem to have a friendhsip with some sex thrown in. That can be dangerous as it often results in one person developing unrequited feelings for the other. Well unless of course both members are aromantic. Now has the concept of a relationship with her or anyone for that matter, ever come up?"
She asked after jotting down a couple of notes in her notebook.
"I ask because when you named everyone for friends and what not Flo was the only one who seemed to fall into the 'Other' category. Of course that may entirely be because you won't go further."
She was trying to help Aileen understand her thought process. SHe hated when people jumped to conclusions or just seemed to make things up and make wild accusations. She wanted Aileen to better understand. Of course it could also result in Aileen figuring out how she thinks and preparing to out think her. Of course May had faith in her skills.
She wanted to get to the bottom of how her relationships worked. That would tell her everything she'd need to know. She just opted for romantic, or quasi-romantic relationships first. Once Flo was done she'd move on to friendships, probably the Avengers. Teams were close and usually seemed to share aspects of their personalities.

Aileen saw May smirk as she was trapped into admitting there was something going on with Flo. She wasn't sure that was too professional of her, but then again she wasn't sure how professional anything May was doing was. This really didn't seem like a particularly orthodox counselling session, but then again she'd never really had one before. And now she was being quizzed about their....whatever it was, something she had talked about to precisely nobody. Her face went pink as Flo mentioned Netflix and chill, and she took a few seconds to think before answering. "We haven't talked about it," She said, and it was true, "We don't need a relationship. We're just friends who hang out, and....y'know." She didn't think May really needed any details. She was also deliberately avoiding the mention of a relationship with anyone else.
"I was just..." She said, but it trailed off lamely. She didn't have an excuse. She'd let it slip out when trying to lump Flo in with the others. Probably not the best to try and get one over on your counselor, but this was the first time she'd talked about Flo to someone. "The idea of going further didn't really occur to either of us." They'd never brought it up, and Aileen was more than happy to keep up what they were doing. Spending time together and having a fair amount of sex. And while they cared about each other, and Flo especially seemed to care about her, Aileen was pretty sure dating was not the other girl's style. Especially not dating another Avenger.
"I guess only something like that came up once," Aileen said, feeling the need to fill in the silence. Was that something Flo was deliberately doing, or was it just her being incredibly tense. "She asked me to spend one night a week less patrolling, so we could spend more time together." It had only dropped from five nights to four, but at the time it had seemed like a fairly big thing, "And that if I got hurt, she'd have to clean me up. And make sure I knew not to do it again." She was definitely getting into the realms of stuff she really didn't need to divulge to May, but it was like she was getting verbal vomit in the situation.

She nodded her head and wrote a few more things down. Her relationship with Flo was interesting. It meant more than she either wanted to admit or was aware. Either way it was interesting none the less. May just needed to both help Aileen possibly see it, if she didn't, as well as perhaps let her see she was worthy of it.
"She really does care for you. Have you done anything to return the favor? I mean aside from taking a night off and limiting being shot. Ya know, being there for her as well as asking her to make limitations. You need to make sure you're not the only one giving up stuff."
She said with a smile. She knew how dangerous that could really be. When you change everything for someone, only to have them stay the same. Aileen did strike her as the kind of woman who might unknowingly do that. May liked her and didn't want to see her get taken advantage of.
"Enough about Flo for now. Why don't you tell me about your close friends and the Avengers?"
She asked nodding her head. As she did she pulled out a small flask and took a swig before casually offering it to Aileen. She was used to always drinking so her to her this was never seen as off. Not to mention it may help her loosen up a bit and be more forthcoming.
"I know you're close to Virginia Stark, why don't we start there?"
She asked with a smile. She know that Aileen may prefer calling her Ginnie but May was trying to keep it somewhat professional, plus she'd barely spoken to Ginnie even less a handful of times.
