Give up, we needed the c o m p a n y Let's drink to your health Maverick whined, laying his head on the floor, his brown eyes roaming back and forth, watching his mother pace back and forth on her funny two legs. He was worried about her. He’d never seen her this anxious before, not in the lifetime he’d been with her. He pushed his front up, getting his legs under him before lifting himself fully off the floor. He padded over to her, nudging her hand with his head. Tessa looked down at Maverick, trying to smile a bit. She could tell by the worry in his eyes that he wasn’t buying her smile for an instant. She’d gotten the dog about a year ago to try and cope with all the loose in her life. Dogs were said to be good for stuff like that. Maybe it worked, maybe it didn’t. She never really seemed to get along with anyone, not really. Stand long enough to get a job done and collect payment? Yeah sure. Long term? She never felt close enough to anyone for that. Then the world went to shit, again. Tessa had no idea where Dean was, or would be, or anything. She’d texted him, but the only replay she’d gotten was that he’d be in touch later. Well it was later, and she was starting to get nervous. She probably had no reason to be. He had a job to do and all that. Later probably meant in a week, not the next day. But she couldn’t help it. She’d just gotten him back, and while a part of her was upset that he’d lied to her about who he really was, she wasn’t about to lose him again. She gave Mav’s head a ruffle before going back to pacing, phone in her hand. Maverick looked at her a bit longer before going back to his bed and laying down with another whine.

It had been an insane and complex....how long had it been since Apocalypse had destroyed the Tower and Jean Grey Academy. He and his Horsemen seemed to have gone to ground but Dean and the rest of SHIELD had been on high alert. He was working on the Titan case and investigating that. He was also trying to help ensure that the students were all accounted for and safe. It was a simple thing really, paper work and just following up leads. He'd rather be out there with the other agents, working to track down the Horsemen. But he was just going to do his best and work his way up the roster. Yes he had a lot of respect within the SHIELD ranks but he knew he had to work on getting up to the good jobs.
He'd been working hard and knew Tessa wanted to see him. He'd gotten her text and had a spare second to send back something real quick.
'I'll hit you back later Tess. <3 :* ;P'
He'd managed to get away just long enough to go see Tessa. His job was over for now and he had some leave. He went straight to Tessa's place and grabbed a few things on the way. In a matter of moments he was walking into her apartment.
"You really need to get better locks Tess. I mean hell I just picked your lock while holding all this stuff."
He had a few bags in one hand and was holding a can in the other, leaning on it.
"I got beer, whiskey and I couldn't decide between burgers and tacos so I got both."
He said with a laugh setting it all down on the coffee table. Then he turned his attention to the dog and and smiled, giving a whistle.
"C'mere boy."

Give up, we needed the c o m p a n y Let's drink to your health Her ear quit nearly twitched as the door opened. Thousands of things flooded her head. Shoot it. Kill it. Tell it to freeze. If he moves, shoot him. Ask him what he wants. Kill him first. A knife buried itself in the door frame, not but a few inches from Dean’s head and a gun was just being lowered from his face. ”Dean,” she breathed. Tessa dropped the gun to the coffee table and Maverick stood up, wagging his tail at the man. Disregarding the bag in his arm, she threw her arms around him, holding him close to her. It was completely instinctual, her brain has fallen completely silent now. She was simply happy to see him, after everything that had been happening, and of course no connections to what was going on with the government types. She wasn’t about to try and ask Sharon anything. After a moment she pulled back, taking his face in her hands. ”You’re okay right? Not hurt...why didn’t you text me more. What’s going on?”

He ignored the knife that stuck into the door frame beside him and continued on. He knew it was only a warning and had she wanted to kill him, well he'd be in a puddle of his own blood right now. He stood up from greeting the dog she'd mentioned only to be latched in a hug. He smiled and returned the hug, kissing her cheek.
"I'm fine Buttercup. Not hurt aside from a sore wrist from dealing with all the paperwork. I was just stuck dealing with paperwork. I didn't get the fun missions of hunting down Apocalypse, just dealing with the misplaced students. As for texting, well, I was busy. I didn't have a lot of time, then for a good chunk I had no actual reception."
As he talked to her he'd reached down and began scratching Maverick's head. He'd only seen the dog once or so, and even then just in passing. But the dog had taken a shining to him. Perhaps it was because he was his namesake, or maybe it just picked up that Tessa really liked him.
"But c'mon sweetheart, tonight is just you and I."
He said before handing her a beer. He was really looking forward to this. Sure a date would be nice and all, but he kind of liked the whole staying in for the night thing.
"So we'll sit here, eat, drink and make up for a lost year. Maybe try out that one thing you always wanted..."
He said with a wink before falling back onto the couch and grabbing a beer off the table.
"So what kind of movies you got? I mean I did miss out on a lot movie wise. Whatever happened with that whole Bourne franchise? Speaking of which did you ever notice how he looked like Hawkeye?"

Give up, we needed the c o m p a n y Let's drink to your health When his lips touched her cheek, she light up. Not just visually, but she could feel it. It was more than just a spark. It was like a warm heat all over that made her feel light. It didn’t last long, but the memory of it, she knew it would linger for while, making her want more, like a drug. She drew her hands away slowly, watching him interact with Maverick. The dog hardly liked anyone. Perhaps it was Tessa’s fault for being so standoffish. The dog probably picked up on it, in fact, thinking about it now, Tessa was quite certain that’s why he never seemed to like anyone. His words were barely heard as she just watched him. She hadn’t seen him since Lewis had been taken down and she’d been debriefed about the whole thing. They hadn’t exactly been alone at the time though. In her mind they had, but it was still….he was on a job, and in her mind; someplace they couldn’t stay. But now...now he was here, in her apartment, alone, and all she could do was stare at him. She hardly even noticed the beer he’d pressed into her hand. It wasn’t until he was falling that she seemed to snap out of it. She reached towards him. He couldn’t fall again. No...her mind was confusing the past with the present again, but it was too late. She’d over balanced herself. She took a step to try and catch herself. She ended up half kneeling over Dean as he sat on the couch. She bite the inside of her cheek, smiling embarrassedly down at him. She was tempted to simply stay there, over him, looking down at him, forever. She only half heard what he was saying until he said, “Bourne franchise? Speaking of which did you ever notice how he looked like Hawkeye?"Tessa blinked and moved to the side, sitting next to him. She hadn’t spilled a drop of her beer. She downed a third of the bottle before answering him. ”I have Netflix. You can start to catch up.” She gave a sidelong glance at the dog, who was laying comfortably at their feet, between them. He looked up at her, but otherwise, didn’t move. She took a swig from her beer.

He ignored her zoning it and decided not to mention how she'd stumbled forward when he fell back. Whether it was concern over his leg or something else he didn't know but decided to just let it go. He took a swig from his beer before reaching down and scratching Maverick under his collar. When she mentioned Netflix he glanced up at her with a smile.
"Netflix and Chill it is. After the day I've had that is exactly what I need. Some alcohol, some food and some...quality time with the most beautiful woman in the world."
He set the beer down before wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close.
"So let's eat my darling and just see where the night takes us."
He said before giving her a deep kiss. He knew from experience that kissing her when she was unprepared was dangerous and could easily result in a broken jaw. But he was fine with that, a kiss was always worth it. Especially because they had a lot of time to make up for. When they were in the service he was certain that by this point they'd be married, or at least planning it.
"So grab some food, take your top off and get comfy."
He said with a laugh. He opened the box of pizza, revealing a large pizza of her favorite type. The tacos were just chicken street tacos, nothing too fancy. But all the SHIELD agents recommended that food truck so he decided to try it.
