Anything Else:
Quite a few tattoos, including her grandfathers name tattooed on her chest and a symbol of protection on her left forearm. Other runes and symbols have been tattooed onto her body for various kinds of protection and help in enhancing her focus. Her ears are also pierced.
Equipment and Weapons:
Jonah the Cat: A petite white cat, Jonah is Lilura's familiar and she goes almost every where the creature. He's her second closest friend, Pestis being her first, and she spoils the cat rotten. It would be best to not touch her Jonah without permission or even try to hurt the cat unless you want a very angry witch on your trail.
Stuart the Zombie: Something that she had to do a lot of work to have, Stuart is something of the effect of a lot of energy and a little bit of help from her mother to create. Though Lilura had originally wished to bring one of the zombies home from Georgia, the big bosses at the BPRD as well as the despicable people from Checkmate weren't going to allow it. They were too many variables to allow such a creature to be taken out of that state. However, they granted her the necessary clearances to have a zombie if she was able to raise it herself. So she found a nice and fresh cadaver and worked her magic. Completely harmless and pretty much brainless as well, Stuart is like a little puppy at times with how he responds to her. He listens, mainly because he has to, and she often uses him as her personal study subject. She likes experimenting on him with a variety of different things, such as different spells she is quite sure will work or different potions that she doesn't know the uses for. Stuart doesn't need to feed on people because he is an entity that is, for the most part, derived from magic. It is her magic that keeps it alive, just like it is her magic that keeps the zombie from rotting and creating an unbearable stench.
Pestis the Faerie Horse: Pestis is a horse like none anyone has ever seen. Her fur is white like snow and sleek, a sort of fiery sheen seeming to reflect off of it in any sort of natural light. Her mane is curly and long, the colour of a raven's feathers, as is her long and elegant tail. Around the bottom part of her back legs as well as just above her knees on her front ones is medical tape that is usually speckled with blood. Her fur gets long and somewhat shaggy just before her hooves, which are rather unique. Her hooves, mostly black, seem to have strange markings on them in red, orange, and yellow. What's even more unique about them is that fire sprouts from beneath them. Her fur is fire resistant, making it so she cannot catch herself on fire. Where ever she puts her hoof down, her fire will not burn the area unless she so wills it. She has a horn on her head, somewhat like a unicorn's, though, like her hooves, it has similar molten markings with fire radiating off of it. She has a pair of white, feathery wings that are usually held back and locked by the adornments around her body, though this is not a way to limit their mobility. It is more of a mutual want for them to try and stay out of the way as Pestis doesn't like flying all that much unless she needs to. Her eyes are red and full of emotion. Her body is adorned with a leather strap.
It's not really a part of a saddle though, if she so wanted, Lilura could hang saddle bags off of it. On the front, across her chest, is a small animal skull, fangs protruding from it and there is a decent sized ruby in its skull. There are chains that hang from the wing locks and, down along the side of the leather are black and gold ribbons. Against both back thighs are bigger versions of the skull against her chest. Around both thigh skulls as well as in both her mane and tail are golden eternal flowers, their origin of faerie decent and, so long as Pestis is alive, the flowers shall also live. Near the end of her tail hair is another skull that is attached to a leather tie of sorts and it is used in order to try and keep the fur of her tail from flying all over the place. Though Pestis cannot truly speak, she is connected to Lilura on a very intimate way. It's sort of a psychic link that allows them to understand each other without using actual words. Pestis is sort of a stubborn horse who tends to not like people aside from her human companion, Lilura. Being of a more magical breed, so long as Lilura wills it, no matter where Pestis may be, she will come running, appearing within moments beside her. How she travels like this is simple. It's a mix between teleportation and the use of ley lines and dimensional portals. The extent of what Pestis can do is unknown, though mostly due to both her young age and the younger age of her owner, her full potential probably hasn't even developed yet.
It is thought that her horn, while something that can be extremely deadly , with the slightest touch and a small amount of will, can heal any number of wounds no matter how severe. However, it would not be able to heal wound that would ultimately kill a person without draining or even killing herself and she isn't quite the type to do such a thing as that. Being a creature with flames sprouting from her, Pestis also has a small amount of control over fire, so long as it's physically touching her in some way. She can make flames grow or shrink as well as make them move around her body as to allow safe passage for whoever rides her. An obvious ability of the horse is her ability to fly, though she isn't too fond of it and would rather run everywhere. She can also freely pass between the realm of the fae and the mortal realm in which Lilura dwells on, being something of Lilura's free entrance pass into a realm that greatly fascinates her. How Pestis came to be Lilura's to begin with is a long and complicated story (see her history for more details). Just know that Lily had done a mighty big favor for a very important Faerie royalty which ended up in her being rewarded with the fae horse rather than the fae prince owe her a boon. Pestis has a soft spot for candied apple, raw sugar cane, and cubes made of brown sugar.
Pestis Talisman: A talisman that was also given to her when she was given Pestis, it has a small skull on it, similar to the ones that adorn the horse itself, a red ruby in the center of the forehead and three golden eternal flower surrounding it. The talisman is magically connected to Pestis and, so long as Lilura has the pendant, her ownership of the horse is eternal. The flowers on the pendant are there as a way to let her know that the horse is still alive. They are connected to the horse and, so long as she is still alive, the flowers shall continue to live as well.
Grimoire: A grimoire is a book of spells that is kind of like a witches family bible. Lilura's grimoire was passed down to her from her mother. It holds all her spells, both new ones and ones that had been taught to her by her mother long ago. She also has an area for potions and enchantments. In the back is a dream journal.
Pentacle: A pentacle is, as most people know, a simple five pointed star within a circle. The star itself is a representation of the five major elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Air, and, at the very top, Spirit. Spirit is what helps to power magic, some cultures believe. The more metaphorical spirit you have, the more powerful you can be. Spirit is what also binds the other four elements, as some others believe. The pentacle that Lilura wears is made of silver, has five small rubies set in each point and five small rainbow moonstones set around the center, and almost always on her. An object that was enchanted to help protect her from harm,it was also one of the last gifts she had ever gotten from her father and she treasured it with her life. So long as Lilura wears the item around her neck, evil other than her own cannot possess her. For example, were a demon or a spectre looking for a host of some sort, the pentacle would guard her, keeping the creature out of her. Also, were she to put enough faith in the object, faith in this case being an almost ethereal manifestation of psionic energy brought about by a strong sense of belief in the object, can also keep her somewhat safe from something like a vampire, the object creating a white hot feel to the monster when it touches it.
Though it didn't always do too great of a job from protecting her (something he had always hoped it would do in more ways than just the usual), it has always been a reminder of how even the little things can make a powerful impact, a thought that Lilura will probably always treasure.
Oak Wand: Wands are often used as a way to focus magic and can be very useful in certain spells. Other times, they are simply for show because it is pretty much stereotype for a witch of any kind to have some form of a wand to do their witch thing. Lily herself does actually own a wand that she had to make herself. It's the only proper way of going about it. The wand is about the length of her forearm, maybe half any inch or so thick. Carved into it are different runes for magical enhancement and, near the base, she has set in it a small amethyst cut into the shape of a somewhat jagged heart. The amethyst was what she chose to set into the base because of its importance and usefulness in magical dealings as well it's ability to hold energies. Plus, it is a stone that helps with meditation and will, two things that can be important to a young witch.
Potions: She does carry around potions that she has made from time to time. As a matter of fact, she's even known to sell them to people who ask for one. It's an easy way to make money at the BPRD. Though her mother doesn't often condone of this and the Bureau doesn't like providing the necessary herbs and oils to make such things, leaving her to often have to dip into her own funds to make them.
Athame: An athame is (in her case) an enchanted blade often used in rituals and can also be used as a rather when there is nothing else available. Her athame's blade is made of pure iron, mystical runes engraved into the blade that glow a subtle gold when being used for ritualistic purposes or when blood touches the blade. The hilt is made of denodrite with a sort of rubbery material to help with grip.
Tarot Cards: Though most people think of these things as a joke, tarot cards, in the right hands, can be a rather useful tool for any witch or sorceress, Lily included. This deck of tarot cards was a gift from her mother, a gift that her mother had made herself.
Revolvers: Old mementos that once belonged to her her grandfather and were passed to her by her dad, they still work perfectly. Once a week to every other week, she is known to take some time out of her schedule to simply clean the guns and keep a check on their maintenance.
Bowie Knife: Another memento inherited through her grandfather from her dad. She's made some slight modifications to it to make it easier for her to handle.
Cavalry Sabre: Also something she inherited through her grandfather from her dad. She takes great care of it and uses it with pride on the rare occasions that she does use it. She doesn't like over using the sabre, afraid that if she does it might break. She's currently in the stages of restoring it to it's former glory, hoping the restoration process might help with reinforcing it.
Lillian's Silver Bangle: A small silver bangle that is now almost ever present around Lilura's wrist, she had crafted it herself, runes and all, and empowered it with a small bit of her magic to keep them from being destroyed. One would probably assume, with the witch's nature, that this is just another means of protection, and they wouldn't be completely wrong. But it's not to protect herself. While she had been in Gotham, she had come across a poor child's soul, one that was refusing to move on and one that was so terribly scared. She had no real clue how to really help the girl, but she knew she couldn't leave her soul to wander about her own grave. So, making a small rune tag, she had bound the girl's soul to it, one Lillian Emily Sinclaire. And when she had returned home, that was when he had created the rest of the bracelet, carving runes into it to keep the child spirit from danger and helping to prevent her from being by the dark energies that often create a poltergeist. The bangle also helps in keep other evils from tainting the girl's soul while she stays in the realm of the living.
Powers:
* Magical Abilities: Being the daughter of a woman who came to be a very powerful sorceress, Lilura is rather adept in the magical arts. Unfortunately, she isn't exactly that high of a level 'witch', so to speak, not when you take into account people like her mother or Doctor Strange. She's technically still apprenticing with her mother, learning all she can, and using the skills that she does have to the best of her abilities. All of her powers are heightened when she has gone 'dark'. These powers include:
Astral Projection – The ability that allows ones spirit to 'leave' the body and roam the earth as somewhat of a ghost. The physical body is left behind and susceptible to attack or damage while the spirit is wandering. This is something that Lily is quite good at and she does it often when she wants to get away or when she wants to do a little investigating without having to physically go somewhere. While projecting, she can walk through walls and even fly to a small degree, not held down by the laws of the earthly and living plane. On the other hand, she cannot physically touch anything or move anything. Normal people cannot see the spirit when it is projecting but those with a gift in mediumship and other magical abilities may be able to see her. Generally speaking, it's other sorcerers and sorceresses who have a knack for seeing the unattached spirit. She always takes precautions, of course, knowing the dangers of leaving her body behind.
Aura Reading – The ability to see the energy fields that surround people and objects. These auras are usually different for everyone and also tend to change slightly depending on the person's mood or thoughts. This is something that comes naturally to her and doesn't really do much, other than help her figure out who someone is without having to actually see their face or see, to a small extent, how someone is feeling. Aura's can also show her if someone else is a magic user of sorts or if they aren't even of the earthly plane. Not only are aura's unique to each person and object, they are also very unique to each race.
Banishment – Usually done by casting spells, though with Lilura's unique expertise in the dealings of the dead and demons, she has a gift in banishing those who do not belong here back to whence they came. Banishing isn't hard, it just takes a little bit of focus, a mix of energy, and the right latin words. As stated, extremely easy, and necessary, for someone who knows all about demons.
Conjuring – The ability to summon or create matter out of thin air. This is something that she likes to work on often. So far, she has only figured out how to conjure her weapons, grimoire, tarot cards, different odds and ends items like clothes, and certain foods (mostly junk food). It can also be used in reverse, something she is much better at doing. Using it in reverse means making things that she can at least hold in her hand disappear, sending them back to where ever they came from or to where she so chooses, so long as she can envision the place in her head. Anything that she makes disappear she can re-conjure at least once.
Dimensional Travel – She has been working long and hard on being able to open up dimensional portals. Though it can take a lot out of her to do so, she is slowly getting better and better at it. She hasn't gotten a handle on too many of the dimensions, and can't even fathom the amount of energy traversing to an alternate one might use, so she hasn't attempted such a feat as that yet, but she is practicing. The realm of the fae, as some people think of it, is one of the few that she has access to through this gift and hopes someday to be able to visit every dimension out there.
Empathy – The ability to read, sense, and manipulate the emotions of others. Lily herself can only read them and that's just because of the help of her aura reading. Her mother tells her that she needs to continue working on this gift for being able to have even the smallest amount of control over the emotions that dwell within another person can someday mean the difference between life and death. Lilura thinks it's a load of crock but she isn't about to say that to her mother.
Familiar Connection – Lily has this connection to Jonah that allows her to understand what her familiar says. Jonah is the only animal that she can understand without needing to use a spell of some sort. The connection, somewhat like her connection to Pestis, is of a mystical sort, though it works on a very different level. A familiar is something of a companion in every sense of the word for a witch and is vital in dealing with spells and rituals The bond created between a witch and her familiar is powerful, more powerful than any other bond imaginable and one that is extremely difficult to destroy. However, were it to be destroyed, it could leave a terrible pain and mark on the witch while ultimately killing the familiar. Because of this, she tries to do all she can to keep Jonah safe and their connection strong at all costs
Healing – By using the right spells, she can heal herself and others. Healing can also be done by using water and manipulating it to wrap around the wounds. Concentrating the right amounts of energy into the water can have a similar healing effect, though doesn't seem to work on the more severe wounds people get.
Hydrokinesis/Cryokinesis – Water seems to be a natural elemental affinity of her and she can manipulate it with great ease. She can easily pull the moisture right out of the air and use it as a weapon. Also, anything that contains water in it or is in a liquidized form is liable to manipulation. This also includes ice. She can draw moisture from the air and use it as she pleases as well as freeze it and use its ice shards to attack enemies if she so pleased. In doing so, she can also melt ice and reform it before freezing it again to use as she wishes. She may have a little bit too much fun with this ability at times.
Illusion Casting – With the right amount of energy being used, it is possible to create illusions in the minds of others, though this takes a lot more out of her than one might think. She doesn't use it often and never on more than one person at the same time. She has to really focus and be able to keep the images she wants the other to see going long enough for them to take something of a form of their own, which can take time. If she stops focusing too soon, then the illusion will fade faster than she intends it to, which can cause a lot of problems. There is also the fact that, in casting an illusion, it can backfire, even trap her in her own illusion rather than trapping someone else in it. And that is never fun.
Invisibility – She can use her magic to actually make herself invisible. This is very helpful when she needs to be extremely stealthy for certain missions. This is something that she has very good control over. Invisibility is something she likes to practice as often as she can, often sneaking around the base in this 'state' in order to just make sure that she has a good handle on it. Plus, it can be fun spying on people every now and again. Sadly, spying on her mother rarely gets her too far. The woman always seems to know that she is there.
Mediumship – This is, in short, the ability to commune with the unseen, more specifically those who have come to pass. She is often talking to the ghosts that she sees roaming around, finding they tend to hold a lot of valuable information on the past that she loves to hear about. Being a story writer herself, it's always nice to hear about old time periods from those who had lived and died in them. She also tends to use her mediumship as a way to help those that cannot let go to try and move on. One less ghost on earth and sent back to the spirit realm where it belongs is good enough for her. This does not always have to apply to ghosts, though, her mediumship. Any entity that cannot be seen by normal people are something she can see, including certain demonic (and even angelic) entities. Though angels tend to not mess with her. Her heart is too black to ever be able to see light.
Necromancy – This is probably one of her more powerful skills as well as her most advanced one. She is extremely talented with the arts of necromancy, having seemed to gain a natural gift in it from her mother. She can use it to communicate with the deceased as well as bring them back if she so please. Because of it, she also has a knack for seeing the ghosts and spirits that walk the earth. Honestly, it's probably one of her favorite abilities and she would have even taken it as her own codename had she not wanted to honor her grandfathers name so much. Necromancy as a whole is much more than dealing with the dead. Usually, it tends to include almost anything that deals with the darker forces out there. Most popular in necromancy, aside from the physical raising of the dead, is the calling of demons. Her necromancy and dark magic, however, have very negative repercussions on her, which is why her mother despises that Lilura practices. The dark magic builds up inside her, almost as if consuming her, and it tends to change the way she is for periods of time. Though it makes her more powerful and much more capable of controlling her powers, it also slowly drains all of her energy until there is nothing left, leaving her powerless for a bit. It's dangerous magicks but that never seems to stop her from practicing what she loves most.
Phasing – Lilura can alter her body density to allow herself to 'phase' through doors, floors, walls... things like that. She has to make sure she concentrates, though because if she doesn't, she could lose control of her density and accidentally hurt herself, which can be very dangerous. It is also important that she knows what the layout of the next room or the room beneath her looks like for if she doesn't, she could hurt herself that way too. She has been told that she could also do this with objects that she touches but she isn't quite that good at it just yet. She's practicing but she's not too sure that she'll be getting the hang of that anytime soon.
Precognition – The ability to see things before they happen. With her precognition, it usually comes in her sleep, though sometimes can appear to her in her walking hours. If she gets a vision when she is awake, she grows very distant for a few moments, even pales a little and her eyes start to glow ever so slightly.
Retrocognition – This is the ability to see events that have come to pass. With the retrocognition, it requires her to touch something that holds memories, such as touch a person or a memento of great meaning. Because of her retrocognition, she knows a great deal about her grandfather's life through the heirlooms that are now in her possession.
Spellwork – I guess it should probably be said that she can cast spells of almost any kind so long as she does the right things or says the right words. Some spells take more out of her than others and there are even spells that are way too powerful for her to handle. Though that doesn't mean she wouldn't try. If she does a spell wrong, it can backfire on her and cause terrible things, sometimes even physically harm her maybe even kill her. That's why it is probably better that she doesn't try anything that is outside of her skill range.
Summoning – Like any creature of magic (or, really, like any creature whatsoever), she has the ability to summon other creatures of magic, such as demons or other 'witches', as she often calls them. She can be known to abuse this power at times as she has something of a fondness for summoning certain people and demons to help her where she needs help. Because she is a creature of magic, though, she is able to be summoned in return, though, which can be rather annoying at times.
Telekinesis – With her magic, came a lot of psychic abilities. One of these being telekinesis. She can use her mind to move things as well as people. If she wanted to, she could use it on herself, though she can already fly so there isn't much use in that. When she is angry enough, she can even use it to hold people down or injure them, though she rarely uses it for that when not 'dark'. It is also useful when stopping bullets or arrows when her energy shields fail her. With her telekinesis, she can lift about seven times her own weight, nearing eight hundred sixty five pounds.
Telepathy – She has a hard time with this and it takes a lot of concentration for her to do it but she can listen to other peoples thoughts and implant her own thoughts into their minds. She doesn't care to listen in on other people too often, though, and only really implants her own thoughts when she feels it is extremely necessary.
Skills:
Alchemy/Potion Making: Being a person who pretty much constantly practices her alchemy and always trying to create new potions, she is extremely skilled in both these very similar areas. These are things she does for fun. The best way to put it is similar to what a great man once wrote in a fantastic book: Lilura is something of the witches equivalent to a nerd. Rather than going out and doing things that could be fun or entertaining, she'd rather stay home and whip up a potion. Something that takes talent and concentration is so much better than going anywhere else.
Equestrianism: Having been trained starting when she was a little girl, Lilura is competent enough to easily pick up riding with an unfamiliar horse. She has a good enough amount of patience and determination, two things that can come quite in handy especially when trying to break a horse. She's also good at controlling a horse with or without a saddle and reins. Equestrianism is far more than just the breaking and controlling of a horse though. It can also include all the things that are done when people are in competitions, such as the jumps and the weaving as well as being able to ride with finesse even as a horse goes at its fullest speeds. Besides, what kind of cowgirl would she be if she couldn't break a simple horse?
Extensive Knowledge of Magical Dealings: As a 'witch', Lilura is privy to the knowledge about how magic works and the different ways it can affect people and the objects around her. This isn't exactly common knowledge to the entirety of the public. The way magic works, though not completely understood by her, is something that she can understand with ease, while others might think her crazy for even believing in such a thing. How it works isn't all, though. She also considers her understanding of how deals with other magic users and demons work, something that any intelligent person wanting to work with a demon should come to understand before ever attempting to summon them. Demon deals are finicky but, if done right, are easily understood and easily backed out of.
Extensive Knowledge of Magic in Botany and Gems: When you work with constantly making different potions that require different oils and plants, understanding the magical properties of different herbs and flowers is of the utmost importance. Every herb has it's uses. Like, you should know that Angelica root and flowers are used in the warding off of evil and exorcising of ghosts and demons but shouldn't be used to try and break a hex or curse. It also good to know the different magical properties of gems, as she does. Yes gems. They're not just the pretty little rocks that people think of them as, each holding it's own magical properties. They are constantly used in rituals and spells as well as a means to store different mystical energies. Each gem, like every plant, has it's own properties. For example, the crystal quartz is often used with speaking to the dead or any form of spiritual attainment.
Extensive Knowledge of Magical Runes and Symbols: Like any good witch, Lilura knows an abundance in the way of runes. She has book upon book with different runes drawn in them, their meanings and uses written beside. Being someone who is often consulted by friends on what runes to use, she kind of needs to understand as many as possible. She actually has quite a few different runes for things such as empowerment and protection tattooed on her body as well as engraved in the walls of her room behind the black paints of her starry room. Along with runes comes other magical symbols and their uses, such as mystic traps and summoning circles.
Extensive Knowledge of Magical Items and Creatures: In dealing with the mystical comes the need to research and learn about magical uses of different items or the symbols to be used in such things but also the different mystical objects that are around the world from ancient necklaces to magical staves buried in legend. She has quite a bit of knowledge of these items, though does not actually own many. She's the one that the BPRD likes to consult on the team when one such item is found, the young witch often having read something on it or can figure out what exactly they are dealing with with just a single touch to the object. Items aren't the only thing that she has quite a bit of understanding in. There are also all the other mystical creatures from lore that secretly populate so many realms and places in the world. Being one to have personally dealt with not just demons but faeries and other such creatures, she makes it her duty to learn all she can about every creature, 'mythical' or otherwise, that she can.
Multilingual: Being a witch, it can be very important to know certain languages, especially latin. She does have a working vocabulary in it, able to craft any fashion of phrases or spells in latin to help. It's also usually helpful to know latin to get specific results with a spell, one of the many reasons that her mother pretty much made sure that she learned how to speak it from a young age. She can also understand and speak fluently in english and fae, as well as speak and understand small snippets of different magical and demonic languages.
Excellent Marksmanship: Having been taught by her father, who was something of a hunter (and I mean of actually animals, not people), she is has excellent aim and is very good at using any kind of gun, though she isn't one to really care for the use of guns anyway. Unless, of course, she is out hunting. Bows are a little trickery for her, her aim with them not as good as it could be, but she at least has a grasp on how to use a bow if it is needed.
Hand-to-Hand Combat: Trained by both her family and the BPRD, she is fairly good at fighting in hand to hand combat. Nothing too spectacular, though. Just simple basics in fighting like how to properly throw a punch or kick the crap out of someone as well as how to use your surrounds to the best of your ability. She has her own styling of 'hand to hand combat', though, often integrating small amounts of magical energies and directives in order to try and give herself event he smallest bit of an advantage, even if it often backfires on her.
Knife Fighting: She's got her Father and Grandfathers knack for knife fighting, it seems and she's not about to start complaining about that. She feels at ease in a fight so long as she has some form of a blade nearby. Anyone who believes in the saying 'never bring a knife to a gun fight' obviously never met this spit fire girl. She's quick to calculate, easily able to figure out the right spell or even use her telekinesis in just the right way to keep a bullet from hitting her in anywhere vital, and easily able to put her knife to good use without actually killing anyway.
Huntsman-ship: Though not the most lady like thing to do, Lilura is an amazing hunter, having gone out with her father every weekend during the hunting season. He trained her and she grew to admire it. Her hunting skills have actually helped her quite a bit with her marksmanship and tracking skills, things she eventually translated in a way to help her with her job at the BPRD.
Swordsmanship: Trained by her father who had come to learn it from her grandfather once upon a time, Lilura knows how to use not just a knife but longer blades as well, such as Jonah's old cavalry sabre. She is quite talented with a sword, so long as she has used the weapon before and knows how it balances out in her hands. Though it isn't her preferred weapon, she can use it quite well, even on horseback.
Expert Tracker: She is quite skilled at tracking down people, using the internet and her magic to find them and her many skill sets that she gained from hunting. What had once been a favorite past time that was incorporated in hunting has now become something that she tends to use quite often in order to do her job. Even with just a small amount of information on somebody, she has a knack at being able to use her resources to find her target, making her one of the BPRD'S best trackers.
Musician: She is amazing at playing the guitar and singing and often one can hear her practicing in her room when she's upset or bored.
Tech-Savvy: She is fairly good at using technology, specifically computers and the like. She can hack into almost any database in the country, with a little bit of time at least, and the resources provided her at the BPRD by both the bureau and Checkmate. She's even been known to try and break into CHECKMATE's databases for fun, which Angel Arkwright once informed her that it wasn't as much a secret that she thought it had been.
Cavalry Skills: Amazingly enough, one of her most odd yet astounding skills are what she calls her Cavalry fighting skills. After watching first hand how her grandfather had once fought on horseback (something she had seen after touching the old sabre when she was younger), she had pestered her father to help her learn. After all, if she was going to learn how to ride, why not how to fight? So they practiced and practiced and practiced, often doing so with blades. Sometimes they would go out and hunt on horseback to help with her ability to shoot on a horse without spooking it or harming either it or herself. She doesn't use them often, but she adores knowing that she has them and that she can use them. After all, how many others out there could fight with a cavalry like her? It is definitely something worth being proud of.
Weaknesses:
1.) Family/Friends: Her family means everything to her as does her history. If someone were to try to demean her heritage or threaten to bring harm to her mother (even though she knows her mother could probably handle herself), she would sacrifice herself to save them. This also extends to close friends that she views as family. She isn't one to make friends too easily, though, aside from with maybe her teammates at the BPRD. Friendships were just never her thing, but that doesn't mean she doesn't treasure the friends that she does have and try to protect them by any means necessary.
2.) Usual Human Weaknesses: Though she has many, many magical attributes, in all technicalities, she is still a human of sorts and that means she can be killed by human means. She is not immortal, even though she had once tried to become such. Demons sure can be harsh. Though she may have some added advantages with her gifts, she's nothing special, just a simple human who's number will eventually end. She does, however, hope that by the time it does, she has figured out the perfect way to become what people call a Lich. That, however, seems to be a goal that is very far away and out of reach and she knows she'll likely die before ever actually reaching it.
3.) Over Confidence with Magic: She can get quite arrogant about her powers from time to time and that can prove to be troublesome. She isn't even a powerful 'witch' and largely over estimates her abilities a lot which can often leave her in a weakened or powerless state. Her mother warns her that if she keeps doing this, it can kill her, but sometimes she doesn't think she has a choice or she simply believes that someone has belittled her power. Either way, this is something that can bring much harm to her on multiple levels, from a physical to mental to even spiritual level.
4.) Spell Backfire: Spells aren't exactly as set in stone as some might think. Just because one spell is meant to do one thing doesn't me an it can end up backfiring and doing another. If one is not careful or doesn't have the right amounts of energy left, then it can prove somewhat useless. Or, on the other hand, it could just backfire entirely and effect someone it wasn't meant to, such as herself. A backfiring spell can be dangerous, not just to her but to those around her. Sadly, when one overcompensates and believes they have more mystical energy within them than they actually have, they tend to be a danger to themselves when casting spells for this very reason.
5.) Necromantia/Dark Magic: Necromantia is the name she gave her 'Dark Magic' self long ago and it is someone she becomes when she is consumed by dark magic. She is constantly dabbling in the dark arts, which her mother always warns her about. But Lilura is odd. Whenever she practices dark magics, she seems to absorb some of the darker energies that the magic produces. Once she consumes a certain amount, she loses control of herself and the darkness in her heart takes over. During this time, her strengths and abilities to control her powers are heightened but it only lasts for so long. And when the energy finally dissipates, she is left in a state in which she is not just powerless, but she has no memory of what may have happened when she was 'dark'. Her mother believes that if she keeps it up, it could kill her, but a demon once told her differently. She knows that if she keeps it up, that someday it will completely consume her and she will be lost to herself. But she hopes she can possibly learn to control the darkness in her. That if she keeps working at it, it will get better. Which is why she never lets up on the dark practices that she seems to excel in. Still, the magic is dangerous to her and leaves her more human than she actually is when it wears off, making it a terrible weakness. Not to mention the appeal of the dark magic itself is a weakness to her, something that always draws her back despite knowing the repercussions of using it.
6.) Lapses in Memory: Lilura suffers from lapses in her memory. Often when she changes from 'dark' back to 'light' (which is really more of a grey than light), she cannot remember the events that had come to pass when she was Necromantia. Though it sometimes comes back to her in bits and pieces, the entirety of the details often elude her, which frightens her. She not only loses who she is for short periods of time but she also doesn't know how many people might have been hurt when she did so. Though she has people who can help her remember sometimes, and other times small parts of the night or day can be stored in the objects and rooms around her, most of it will never return. If she can't remember, how will she ever be able to control the darkness within?
7.) Pestis: The faerie horse that she was given after helping a faerie royal, she has a bond with Pestis similar to her bond with Jonah, though it is on a very different level. If someone or thing where to bring terrible harm to Pestis, she'd be able to feel. And were the horse ever to be killed, it would cause her terrible pain and leave a hole in her heart that could never be filled again. The horse, though a blessing, was also something that could be used against her if need be. She loves Pestis more than she loves Jonah, though will never admit it, and she'd rather die protecting her than letting someone else kill her. Though, on the downside to that method, were Lilura to be killed, Pestis would die as well. And that is something that Lilura never wants to happen.
8.) Insomnia/Nightmares: Though not something that most would think too many might think of to be that great of a weakness, to Lilura, it seems to mess with her head completely at times. Because of both her retrocognition allowing her to see the past through objects, no matter how dreadful, as well as the darkness in her heart that is slowly trying to take over, the girl suffers from nightmares that keep her sleep at levels less than they should be. Furthermore, she tends to have difficulty going to sleep to begin with. A lack of sleep can cause her powers to act against her. While she may try to do one thing, they will do another and usually it happens to her rather than her target. She takes medications to help with the sleep and writes her nightmares down in hopes of being able to analyze them but that's about all she can do for either of these problems of hers.
9.) The Ghosts of Children: If there is one thing that seems to actually seems to wrench at the young witch's heart, it's seeing the ghosts of children, taken from this plane far too soon. She often tries to help them first and, because of her hate of having to see such little things suffer, will often put her own life on the life to save a child just so that little boy or girl won't have to be stuck out of their afterlife. So far, there has been one little spirit she hasn't been able to quite help off this plane and, as such, has bound the spirit to her through a bangle. Part of her knows that, someday, Lillian will move on and the girl will be gone, but part of her likes having the little ghost around. It kills her to see such a young girl torn from life and from her parents but, if Lilura can make Lillian's existence on that plane a little better, then she's going to do it. It has actually gotten to the point, however, where Lilura treats the little ghost girl as if it were her own daughter of sorts, a dead daughter but a daughter none the less.

THE REST
Personality:
For as long as her mother can remember, Lilura has always been a very proud sort of girl. She felt pride in her heritage, pride in her gifts, pride in herself in general. And while in some, a good sense of pride can be helpful to their development, it has only lead to Lilura becoming a little arrogant as she grew older. She has a lot of confidence in herself, a lot more than she ought to. This tends to lead to her thinking that she's a little more powerful than she really is. Hell, she's even admitted to people on a number of occasions that she is by no means a very powerful witch, but if you see just how she acts sometimes, you'd never think that she'd admit such a thing. When her ego is bruised, she tends to feel the need to fix it. And that usually means it's time for something drastic, something to prove her worth. This only ever leads to trouble, something that her mother is often calling her to tease the young girl. “Here comes Trouble again.” It's a rather common phrase when describing her. After all, she is a rather troublesome girl sometimes.
She was never the polite little girl that people would think her to be. She has a firm belief that people don't deserve her respect if they have not earned it. While she will sometimes put up a polite front when dealing with people who, quite frankly, allow her to keep working, behind there backs she is known to snark and make unwitting comments. Though, usually, that is just to Jonah. She has manners, she just doesn't really like using them unless she has to. She's blunt and not afraid to speak her mind. Though, it must be known, there is a very big difference in saying things and then actually doing them. Though she an talk a big game, she's all about the bluff. And so long as her bluff is good, she doesn't have to worry about people looking into it. Really, she's quite reserved. She'd rather not act out too irrationally and, though it tends to follow her, she'd much rather stay out of trouble when dealing with normal humans.
Lilura is the type of girl who would much rather hide out in a room full of musty old texts, multiple books in front of her at a time. Or she'd rather be in her spell room, which is adjacent to her bedroom, practicing a new spell. Or even out in the open field with Pestis, pampering the the mystical horse and talking to her even if she can't talk back the way Jonah can. Point being, she'd much rather be alone than surrounded by people who don't understand a lick about her. When other people find out she's a witch, and one with 'goals' (and by one of her goals, I mean a goal her mother has for her) of becoming the Sorceress Supreme someday, they tend to either call her crazy or want to take advantage of her. She doesn't really like it when either of those happen, so why waste time with people when nature seems to understand you so much better? Though she'd rather work on her own, she does alright with a team. Then again, she kind of has to since she works for the BPRD. She'd much rather be working with the tech they provide than with the people but they aren't all that bad, she supposed.
When she's not working in solitude at the BPRD, Lilura likes to kick back in the Dallas home and just relax. With the few friends she does have, she can be a lot more fun and outgoing than her usual reserved personality makes it seem. She even likes to play a prank or two all in the name of fun. Of course, she also spends quite a bit of that time practicing with her mother, she can do more than just work. She's probably the best kind of friend to have. Because if you can seem to work your way into her heart, you have the greatest protection any person could ever dream to have. A loyal witch willing to risk her skin just to keep you safe is more than any one person could possibly fathom having on their side.
Lilura, however 'nice' or a girl she may seem on the outside, is working for the BPRD for more than just the fact that she's a good asset. She's also a risk that needs to have a close eye kept on her. Because, sometimes Lilura isn't exactly Lilura. Where dark magic might eventually be the end for some people, where Lilura is involved, it seems to consume her and change her to her very core. Some could call it a sort of magical form of Dissociative Identity Disorder. This other 'person' that she becomes is what she calls her 'dark side' or 'Necromantia', a latin word that pretty much translates into Necromancer. Necromantia is fierce and impulsive, doing whatever she pleases, however she pleases. She's like a wild animal and is something that should be handled with care. After all, she is quick to snap and doesn't care who she hurts in the process. Usually, the BPRD is able to keep her locked in her room when she becomes this darker version of herself but only the higher ups truly understand. The only reason they keep her on staff is because they believe she might be able to control. And if she can control it, she can become a more powerful asset than even 'Hellboy' had been. However, she's about just as hard to keep control of and has a knack for the dramatic. She takes as she pleases and doesn't give in return, she's rude, obnoxious, and extremely egotistical, thinking that no one is better than her. But, as I said, this is simply her dark side. And the darkest depths of it have yet to be uncovered, or so that's what both sides of her believe. And, to be honest, neither side want to know what lies in the darkest depths of her heart.
History:
The tale of how Jason and Abigail ever met is one shrouded in mystery, one that not even Lilura has ever been able to unlock. After all, Jason, in his own right, never belonged in this time, no. He was a thing of the past. It was thought that he had been dragged to the future by accident, a dimensional time hole having dragged him there. How he ever came to own his father's old equipment is even more of a mystery. Though Lilura can try as she might to speculate and create stories, like the one with the time hole, the truth of the matter is that it was Abigail herself who had accidentally fallen into the past after a spell gone wrong when she was younger. Dealing with time magic was always tricky and Abigail's falling into the past was a complete accident. It was in the past that Abigail had met Jason and in the past she had fallen in love. But the past was not the time in which she belonged. It was by fate that they had met, however, and Jason had refused to let her go back to her own time by herself. He was never meant to be there yet he had fallen too deep into love where Abigail was involved and didn't quite want to let her leave when he could have had a chance. So when Abigail was finally able to figure out the spell to get her back home, he had traveled along with her, along with a few gifts from his aging father, Jonah. And thus Jason and Abigail began their life in what could very well be considered Jason's future.
A few months after they were settled down on the outskirts of Dallas and married came the gift of a lifetime. On the stormy friday night of January the Thirteenth, Lilura Joanna Hex was born into this world. She wasn't exactly a surprise to the couple though. She wasn't planned but she wasn't a surprise. After all, it was partly because of her impending birth that Jason had come to this time with his blushing bride, but only partly. She grew up with a simple life. She had never been told about how Abigail and Jason had met though had always been constantly asking for the details. They'd drop hints here and there but they never really thought that telling her the story of how their mother had gotten herself back in time was really a good way to go, especially after Lilura started showing early signs of carrying the same gifts her mother did. Though she was never told the story of how they met, she was constantly hearing about her grandfather, Jonah, or about the days when her mother had been apprenticing. Hearing about outlaws and indians was always a delight, the young girl having become infatuated with the tales of her grandfather for as long as she could remember.
Jason and Abby had decided to home school Lilura since it was clear that the girl was more magical than her mother had been at that age. Abby didn't want Lily to get hurt, or more likely, hurt anyone at school. She often times did things by accident, like freeze things over in the bathroom or astral project without meaning or wanting to. Like I said, it wouldn't be safe for for anyone. To be quite honest, it was probably because of this very reason that she had never really taken too much of an interest in making friends. Classes for her weren't always what people would have thought. Sure, she had the basics like math, English, and history, but she also had other classes. Classes such as equestrianism, magical studies, and potion making were also common in the Hex household. When she was about ten or so, she started bugging her father about hunting. She wanted to having fun and she thought that hunting might just be that. Her father and herself started going hunting every weekend. He would teach her how to track down prey and how to shoot a gun at a young age and this would be what her schooling involved on the weekends. Then, during the week, with a little help from a tutor for the more schooly stuff, she had her regular classes. What she loved the most, aside from the equestrianism, was the physical education. Because it was during Phys. Ed. That she got to learn how to use other weapons, such as knives and swords, as well as how to fight.
Life was great! She was learning how to control her powers, she got to spend tons of time with her family, and when she didn't have anything else to do, she was able to have tons of fun writing her stories or practicing her guitar, something she got into when she was about twelve years old. When she was fifteen, something happened that changed her. She used to sneak into her mother's and father's study to read through some of what Abby always told her were 'forbidden' spell books. For months, she had been reading through the spells and practicing what her mother had always warned her against. But she had thought that maybe, if she learned just how to use dark magic correctly, she might be able to use it for good someday. But what she didn't realize was that as she cast each spell, no matter how harmless it had been, the energy it created was building up inside of her. But eventually, the very first time that she would go 'dark' happened. She can't quite remember the details though what she does remember is that, when she woke up, her her father was pretty badly injured and she was in magical bindings to keep her from bringing harm to anyone else.
She wouldn't hear the end of it after that. 'You could have killed your father doing that. Or worse, gotten yourself killed', that was what her mother kept telling her. And, for a while, it scared her straight. She listened to her mother and father, did what she was told, didn't even think about touching one of those dark magic books again. She had been grounded for quite some time, of course, but she would live. They would all live. Lilura gave a name to what had happened that night, called it Necromantia, meaning necromancy or necromancer.
A couple years later, when she was seventeen going on eighteen, her father got into a bad hunting accident. One that would inevitably killing him. Try as she might, Lilura dabbled again in the magic that she wasn't supposed to touch to try and bring him back, which nearly killed her. But she was never able to raise him. For the second time in her life, she had gone 'dark'. This power she wasn't able to control and she shouldn't have tried using it again before she was ready for it. It was thanks to her mother's invention that Necromantia didn't kill herself that night. And when Lilura woke back up the next morning, she was bound again. This time, though, after waking up, rather than getting yelled at, her mother simply released the bindings and held her close, tears staining her cheeks. From then on, any time she got the chance to practice, anything she could do to get a better handle of her powers, Lilura did it. She would learn to control the darkness, even if it killed her.
She remembered that during her grieving period, she got terrified of what might happen to her when she died. Would she just rot away like everyone else or would her body become used for something else? Would she be experimented on and taken in to test her cells because she was different? So many things raced through her head and so, as a way to try and settle her fears, she would run from them. How do you run from death, though? It is impossible! Unless you cannot die. She had summoned a demon who, during their little discussion, said he had known her mother. Lils tried not to think of that fact. Rather, she got down the to point. She offered up everything she could in hopes that the demon would make a deal with her that would grant her immortality. And the demon simply laughed at her. No, Lilura was destined for something much different. Granting such a frivolous wish now could possibly interfere. And the demon didn't want that. So she was never granted it. Though, when she told her mother of the meeting the following morning, her mother scolded her.
Lilura was about twenty when she was summoned for the first time. She had never known that she could be summoned until then and her being summoned into the realm of the Fae had, ultimately, been a mistake. The fae prince had wanted her mother, a woman who was a runner up to become Sorceress Supreme, but had failed in their summoning. Names are a powerful thing and, by odd luck, they had been given the wrong name. They hadn't quite known what the person they were expecting would look like either, having never really seen Abigail herself before, so when Lilura was summoned in her place, they hadn't much of a clue. She was still able to help, though, which the Faerie Prince had been thankful of. Someone very near and dear to the prince had been murder, though who it was had been shrouded in mystery. They thought that Abigail van Alstine would have been able to use her magic to find the murderer. However, it was Lilura Hex who would end up having to find them. She made it a point, after she found out that they had meant to summon Abby, to try and act like her mother to the best of her ability. However, by the time that the prince figured out the deception, she was too close to finding the killer to send her back and bring forth the correct sorceress. She spent weeks with the fae, using everything in her power to try and help. Lilura was able to do quite a bang up job at gaining the trust of a good bit of the fae when she was there, even quick on picking up their languages, something they had been immensely impressed with. Though the prince tended to keep a close eye on her while she was with them, even he seemed to develop something of a familiarity with the witch girl. Though he had hoped she would be able to solve the case sooner. After what had been about two months in with the Fae, the killers, and yes there were more than one, the prince was in her debt. But he couldn't stay in her debt. She would have just sufficed in him doing her a favor later on, when she would need it, but he couldn't be indebted to some lowly 'human'. So, instead, he made her a deal that she couldn't refuse. One of their young foals, a white filly enshrouded in flames. Like I said, she couldn't refuse. Though the prince wasn't in her debt, he did make sure to remember just how she was summoned. While she didn't always do things in the most timely of matters, the way she had handled herself in such a foreign land, amongst their people, would always stand out to him. She may not be overly powerful, but there was an untapped potential inside of her that any of the fae could see. Her potential, though shrouded in darkness, was one that could make her a great sorceress someday, maybe even the real sorceress supreme. She was someone who could be a great ally to them and they recognized that. Never once did the prince regret the mistake he had made in summoning her. After all, it was a mistake that lead to a thorough investigation in something he had thought had been much smaller than it actually was.
As the years went by, she began to try and act more like the mighty hero that she had heard about in her father's old stories. But she wasn't a hero. She could never be a hero. After all, there was too much darkness within her, too much darkness keeping her away from the good side. But that didn't mean she couldn't try. And try she did. She would sit up late at night, trying her best to study what people considered 'white magic' but she kept feeling drawn to the dark magic. So she distracted herself with raising Pestis. Pestis liked doing her own thing, most days, though, so Lilura tended to let her do just that. They had a bond, though, one that the two of them nourished.
Within the past few years, she has started to work for the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, soon followed by her mother. She likes working there and she like the rooms they had provided her with. She has so much freedom within the complex and, though she doesn't know it, the BPRD is able to keep a close eye on her, to make sure that they can contain her when she goes dark. But, since she doesn't quite know about it, it makes her feel free. And that's all she wants. To feel free and feel like she can make an improvement on the world.
