”Flowers? Isn’t that a bit too much? I mean they’re nice and all, but from what you’ve told me you barely know her.” The Irish voice of Friday spoke in his ear quieting the music Ned was listening to as he rode the subway to the hospital wearing a maroon sweatshirt and a pair of dark jeans as a bouquet of flowers lay next to him.
”What’s the big deal about it? It’s just a friend coming to visit another friend in the hospital. She’s recovering. The flowers are just a get well soon gift. Plus they’re tulips, they’re a good ‘get well’ flower. I mean they’re the national flower of the Netherlands, and you don’t think of Romantic when you first think of their.” He said with a hint of hesitation in his voice.
He did have doubts about coming, though. He had barely talked to Becca before she kinda up and left her life to be an X-Men and so Friday did have a point. But Ned felt weirdly guilty about what happened to her. He was invited to the same event and he cancelled going on the last minute and it kept him up if anything would’ve been different if he was there. Would the major be dead, would something he caused make the killer rethink, would Becca not have been hospitalised? This is something that kept Ned up at night ever since it happened. Something Aileen liked to call hero syndrome, which he could’ve seen as accurate.
As he arrived at the station, he continued as Friday babbled in his ear. She was a nicety to have by him especially during stressful occasions, but she definitely knew how to make something that he thought was a good idea turn into a bad idea misguided idea. Apparently, she had many objections to this one, and sometimes he wished that she sometimes didn’t ruin it and let him find it out for himself.
”Now before you complain, I’m ruining one of your ideas, I don’t believe you’ve put a lot of thought into this. Yes I find it a good intention to visit her, but I mean you’re planning on surprising her, but she’s still in the ICU. Which means that it’s possible she can’t have visitors. Yes, I know you waited for a few weeks, but we don’t know the severity of the injuries. And even if She’s allowed to have visitors a surprise visit will be lessened by the fact that possible her parents, friends, companions and the lot are there as well. Ever thought about that? Friday chattered in his ear and all of her concerns that she raised were actual things that Ned should’ve thought about, but he was just too caught up in the idea of it all. So those were now worries he was thinking about. Plus what if she didn’t want him there?
Out of all the things that could’ve gone wrong that kinda made him doubt everything, the rest he could find a solution for, but what if she just didn’t want him there. Felt like it was an intrusion of her privacy or something and kick him out.
Ned took a deep breath and said fuck it to it all. He’d come this far, so why not? What did he have to lose?
He continued walking down with the bouquet of tulips get a variety of odd looks as he headed towards the hospital. While walking he passed a toy store, and a spontaneous thought appeared in his head. Everyone would’ve gotten her flowers or balloons or something so maybe he should think more outside the box and now was thinking of getting her a plush other than a bear. So he entered the store and looked around for a bit, looking at them all before choosing on a panda bear. Sure it was a bear but it wasn’t your average bear… Yogi quote aside, panda bears are cute. It would be a good gift.
He paid for it and had it the gifted wrapped there, paying a friendly tip, and left heading towards the hospital again.
It didn’t take him too long to get there and entered taking a deep breath of the sterilised environment. He kinda became used to the smell seeing how accident prone he and his family was. It seemed at least one of them was in the hospital for more than a month each year. He went to the front desk and asked for the room where a Rebecca Storm was being held and how she was faring. Apparently, she was quite the talk of the hospital and a subject of a lot of gossip.
She apparently was making a faster recovery than the doctors had said and was already moved out of the ICU a week ago and has been having a lot of visitors. She also talked about how hard it was to keep the paparazzi out and that she gave the people she wanted to visit a codeword to say at the front entrance. Thankfully she said she was helping Ned due to her recognising him as a Stark. She gave him the room number and off he went.
It was only a short walk and it was early enough that there didn’t seem to be that many visitors about yet. He walked to the door. Took a deep breath. And knocked on the door as he entered.
”Hey.” he said not really knowing what else to say as he saw her laying on her bed and made his way into her room, not knowing what was going to happen next.
”I uh… got you some flowers and a get well present. Though I see you’ve gotten loads of them already. he laughed to himself as he saw the wide variety of gifts, chocolates and flowers that adorned the room.
