Here is the need to know information for any major team. More teams may be added at a future time once they have enough members.
CHECKMATE
Founded by Amanda Waller they have two sides, white and black. White was intel and black was Black Ops. They operated world wide, seeming to answer to a select few, likely the UN. However since the merger they were absorbed into SHIELD and CHECKMATE has officially been disbanded.
SHIELD
Made up of the remnants of the original SHIELD and the good aspects of CHECKMATE. They operate world wide and seem to answer to no government in particular. Of course it's assumed there is something above the Director, a sort of council, oversees all of SHIELD. A few people have pointed to a sort of fictitious 'Illuminati' type group. They might be even closer than they know.
Justice League
The team was formed to bring together the greatest heroes the world had ever seen. They would answer any possible threat that they could. They operate world, and possible solar system wide, answering to no one but their conscience. They don't always work well with government agencies, but many have tried. There is a sort of friendly rivalry going on with the Avengers but they have a tendency to share members.
X-Men
Formed by Charles Xavier. It is a team of mutants designed to show the humans that mutants can be a force for good. As well as stop any possible mutant threat that may rise up. They all originally started as students at Xavier's and later Jean Grey's school and usually end up teaching there. Despite facing persecution they tirelessly fought to protect humans. However recently mutants are gaining more rights and hatred has dropped to an all time low across the planet. The school now teaches all meta-humans, not just those with an 'X-gene'
Teen Titans
Originally there was the Teen Titans and Young Avengers, several years back they merged. The age range is usually from 13 to 20. However as of late they've been more lenient and less restricting on age. They operate out of San Francisco and are unofficially the starting point for future members of the Justice League and Avengers. Like the Justice League they seem to operate outside the jurisdiction of anyone other than the senior heroes.
Morlocks
A group of mutants, and now meta-humans who are so physically mutated that they hide in the sewers of New York due to torment. They have a general mis-trust of surface dwellers but due to the massive change and wide acceptance of mutants their numbers are dropping.
Suicide Squad
A special team of villains trying to commute their sentences and heroes looking to do good. Instead of just taking on special, super dangerous Black Ops jobs they now operate as a SHIELD run squad, designed to hunt down the rogue, and possibly insane, heroes and villains. The official name is H.u R.T.s, or Hero Retrieval Team, but due to the large fatality rate of the team they've taken on the name of Suicide Squad.
Injustice League
A group of super villains that has been known by many names including the Legion of Doom among others. They usually have a mastermind controlling things while other villains do their dirty work, unknowingly. As far as anyone knows the group is officially disbanded.
The Brotherhood
A group of evil mutants also known as the Brotherhood of Evil mutants. They are dedicated to mutant supremacy. However due to humans being on better terms with mutants no one has heard from this group in years.
Fantastic Four/Future Foundation
Made up originally of a group of space travelling adventurers and scientists. Their identities are public and they operate out of the Baxter Building. They're primarily made up of geniuses or publicly known heroes at the top of their field. While often allying with SHIELD and the Avengers they are not officially tied with any team.
Avengers
They currently operate primarily within the US and a handful of other countries. They are allied with SHIELD but not considered an official SHIELD team. SHIELD usually thinks of them as their own public super hero team and the Avengers seem to think of SHIELD as a partnership. It works, for the time being. There is a sort of friendly rivalry going on with the Justice League but they have a tendency to share members.
HYDRA
Originally a group set about to put itself into all facets of society, like magic, technology, politics and so forth. They seek to slowly control the Earth like some sort of Illuminati. They are believed disbanded and powerless since The Battle.
Illuminati
A group of individuals who look after the entire planet, regardless of affiliation or team. Essentially they're designed to represent a certain mind set to help better the world. They are now made up of representative for Magic/Mystical, Mutant, Alien/Space, Human, Science and Power(Usually a member of royalty). They operate behind the backs of the world's population.
Hellfire Club
Primarily a group of business owners, millionaires and politicians. Really anyone influential. It's essentially a secret society for them to network. However if you look further you find the secret circle where the real power is. The secret circle is primarily made up mutants but meta-humans are also welcomed as long as they have the power and influence. They work with a King, Queen, Bishop, Rook and Knight of Black and White. The colors don't seem to represent anything however. The rankings however are only within the Inner Circle. Like the Illuminati, their roster is unknown to the general public.
Deities
While not considered an official group by any means they do indeed exist. The merging of the universe effected them the strangest. Instead of finding themselves facing their counterparts they all seemed to merge. Which is indeed lucky we don't have four Ares but instead one. They seem to no longer require belief to enhance their powers. About 20 to 30 years ago there was a sudden influx of demi-gods and godly involvement, no one is sure why yet. Then again only gods can properly see that far in advance to prepare. [/ul][/ul]
