Give up, we needed the c o m p a n y Let's drink to your health ”Another,” Tessa said, setting her empty glass down on the bar. The bartender slid a glass of clear, reddish liquid to her, as if he’d been waiting for her to ask for another, before turning back to his other customers. ”Thank you Linus.” She’d only been there an hour, but was already on her third drink. The sad fact was, she wasn’t hardly numb enough yet. She nursed this drink a little longer than the other two, so that she was just finishing it when a half hour had gone by. Linus slide her another drink with a smile and a wink. Tessa accepted with, perhaps, a not so platonic, smile of her own. Tessa had never been much of one for drinking in the past, before everything. But she’d found out rather fast that time, and events have a way of changing a person. She’d always looked down on those who drank too much; never really caring why they did. Maybe some, or all of them, had had a good reason. Alright, so not all, but maybe most. Tessa never could seem to escape the faces of those she’d lost. She’d tried only seeing them in their official military portraits in her head. Yet every time she brought up an image, no matter if it was a simple picture or a memory, all the memories started flowing. Why hadn’t they killed her first? If that rescue party had only been a few days earlier, or a few days later…..A warm body had appeared on the barstool next to her while her mind had been reeling. ”You really know how to put away your liquor huh girl.” She hated to be called girl. She’d seen more than these people in two seconds than they could ever imagine in a lifetime. Where did they get off calling her girl, just because of her young face? ”Let me buy your next drink for ya. My n…””You can’t afford me, so don’t even try,” she said, her tone colder than mountain air during a winter storm. She put her empty glass down, dropped some bills on the counter and gave Linus a nod. As she got up from her stool, her intent was to grab her jacket and head home, leaving her puppy lover in the dust behind her to hit on some other woman. A hand on her arm just as she was about to walk out the door stopped her. The former Army sniper sighed. ”I meant what I said. I don’t want your drinks, and I could drink you under the table anyway." The persistent man must have noticed how many drinks she'd already had, but seemed to be failing to notice her lack of a heavy slur when she spoke or weaving when she walked. Tessa shook the man’s hand off and exited the bar. She hadn’t made it halfway down the street when running footsteps sounded behind her. She had just turned around when a hand wrapped around her throat and slammed her back into a brick wall. He seemed stronger than he should have been. Was this guy for real, or just juicing.
NOTES: Um I'm thinking the guy was just juiced on something, no enhanced strength, unless you think that will be more fun.

Thomas sighed as he moved across the rooftops of Gotham. The crime wave that had hit the city since the death of the original Batman had caused chaos. Even with the return of the Bat signal, not many people believed the Bat had actually returned. However, that didn't stop him from doing what he was born to do... What he was raised to do... He finally stopped and as he did he happened to look down as a woman was caught from behind and slammed into a wall. Even from where he was he could tell something wasn't right with this guy. He seemed... Off...
That didn't matter much to Thomas, since off or not the guy was hurting a civilian. Standing to his full height he grabbed his cape, opened it and stepped off the roof. He landed behind the man almost silently and as he slowly stood he looked at the woman and nodded. He moved quickly and with no wasted movements, he slammed his arm down on the arm holding the woman and as he did he reached around the mans head with his other arm and went to pull him back and down. With little effort he lifted the man up by his head and tossed him over his shoulder. To his surprise the man landed on his feet and stared down the Bat. "I'm warning you... You don't want to do this..."
Sadly, whatever the man was on was causing him to not think straight. The man rushed at Thomas and with a simple movement he tripped him up at the leg and grabbed him, shoving him face first into the very wall he'd been holding the woman upon. Grabbing the mans arm and wrenching it backwards, he took the mans head and with one quick motion slammed it into the wall, knocking him out cold. As he let the man fall to the ground he cracked his neck and sighed as he looked to the woman. "Are you alright ma'am?"

Give up, we needed the c o m p a n y Let's drink to your health To say that Tessa was completely surprised that a masked man with pointed ear attachments on his cowl had saved her, well it wasn't exactly true. More than surprised, she was a little disappointed. This costumed man had stopped her from putting that low life on ice, or at least in a hospital bed for a while. When the scumbag had first thrown get against the wall, she'd braced one for against it as she hit. From the boot on that foot, Tessa had drawn one of her combat knives, then slowly lowered her for and waited for the guy to lean in close. Now, while those two had been having a rather one sided fight, Tessa had slowly raised that same foot and just managed to slip the knife back in before this masked man could see it. She was pretty sure she knew who he was, and if the stories where true, those with Bat cowl didn't really like deadly weapons much. The former sniper left her foot resting on the wall as she creased her arms over her chest. "Lucky you happened to be in the area. Not sure he would have only gotten away with a nasty headache and a few bruises in the morning otherwise." Yes, that was Tessa's way of saying 'thank you', especially when she hadn't been expecting it, or really wanting help at all. She pushed off from the wall, dropping her arms behind her back. She slowly walked a circle around him, her bright green eyes examining him. "Pointy ears on a black cowl. Barbs on the arm guards. Nice boots, black of course. And a long black cape to top it all off. You must be a Bat. But which one? The Batman, or one of those that goes by various other Bat names." A smirk formed on her face as she circled him.
