Edward was simultaneously relieved and angry when he heard the command to end the simulation. He was desperately trying to get past the barrier and slash the guy who'd hurt May to pieces, but he was denied his chance as it all faded. He looked to his cousin, who was already smoking another cigar as her wounds closed. His brain was still clouded with red fog, and he was still furious and wanting to kill something for hurting her, but he still had some sense of priority. "Are you okay?" he asked, his voice probably harsher than it should have been. But she was clearly fine, or at least would be, or medics would have been called automatically or something. Surely. He reached out to take May's arm as gently as he could, but then he froze at her words?
"You knew that would happen?" He asked, his voice shaking and barely controlled, "You let that happen? You put yourself through that...and let me see..." he spun on his heel and stormed towards the door. He wasn't running, he wasn't yelling, just storming. But he wanted out of this room. When he reached the doors, however, they didn't open for him. He took another step forwards, and still nothing. He kicked at them. Still nothing, but his foot hurt slightly. He turned back to May, fury in his eyes.
"Open the door," he said, his voice shaking even more, "We can do this another time. Not today." He stopped when he realised what she had said. About him starting strong and then abandoning her. "This...This was not my fault. This was nothing to do with me. Not my fault." He shook his head as she spoke, and then turned back, "Open the goddamn door!" He took a few more steps towards her, and just swiped his claws in anger. Not at her, especially, and not close to her, but kind of in the direction. He wasn't planning on hurting her, even when she did things like this

She stood there calmly as she listened to him yell at her. She knew it was coming and was prepared. She'd reacted the same way, well so far actually worse. She just sat there calmly, accepting the yelling. She knew she deserved it and worse. However when he swiped at her she stood there calmly. The tip of his claw hitting her cheek, barely breaking the skin and causing a couple loose hairs to fall from her head. With a sigh she wiped away the blood from her cheek as the skin quickly healed.
"That was one. I'll allow this given the circumstances. However if you try that again I will be forced to cut your claws off and beat you mercilessly with them. If you want to fight I will be more than happy to give you one."
She said calmly before crossing her arms. She began to pace back and forth, pissed at him and not a huge fan of the entire situation.
"You will leave when I am done with you. Now the reason I did this was to show you just how easy it is for you to lose those you love and those who love you. That anger you feel, that nearly uncontrollable rage building inside of you right now. I know that feeling, the entire family knows that rage. The red film that seems to cover everything, increased saliva, jaw setting. Your knuckles itch and you want to bury your claws in something, someone. That's the kind of rage that is in us from birth."
She said walking over to the computer and beginning to type.
"We're not human, and we never were. No I'm not talking about a mutant thing either. Us, you, I, your dad, Sabretooth anyone with claws, senses and healing all evolved...differently. Instead of evolving from primates like the rest our evolution took a much more canine route. It's weird, I know, but listen up. The term is considered feral. Now me, you and even your brother and my uncle have been able to operate with little to no affects. But your father and my mom...they're too alike for their own good..."
A clip appeared in the middle of the room. It was just after the Battle and X-23 was running through the city killing anyone and anything she could. It then flipped to a clip of one of many times Logan went feral.
"I use alcohol and tattoos to control my rage. Well that and a few other activities I don't want to share with you."
Then another clip came up. It was the same scenario he'd just run except her mother was on the ball of spikes and a 13 year old May crying and screaming. She jumped at her mom claws out only to be grabbed by webs and stuck to the ground.

Edward froze as his claws cut into her skin. Not much, just a little, but enough to make him feel even worse. He turned away again, equal parts anger, shame and fear by this point as she wiped the blood away from her skin. He wanted to storm over to the door again and kick it open, but he knew that wasn't going to help him, and he could feel his rage abating somewhat. It was like cutting May had broken something. He was angry, but he didn't feel like hurting something. It wasn't like he knew May well, or like they were close, but he didn't want to hurt her. She was family. "You could try," he snapped anyway. He was still angry, after all. Angry enough to not realise quite how stupid saying something like that to May would be.
Her pacing made him restless, but it'd be weird if they were both pacing, so he just ground his teeth together. His eyes narrowed again at her words, however. "I don't leave until you tell me?" he asked, his voice sounding a little bit growly, "And if I want to leave?" As she spoke more, however, he found himself nodding. She had a point, but still. "So you knew I was going to fail, and that was going to happen?" He felt himself getting pissed off all over again. "I thought this was fight training, not fucking mind games. But yeah, sticking my claws in somebody felt like a good idea."
As she spoke more, however, he frowned. What she was saying was crazy. "You expect me to believe we're that different from everyone else?" he asked, "Like some other species or something? That's...We're basically human." He stopped talking as the video appeared. Some woman, who had to be May's mother, the resemblance was clear, killing everything. Was that really what he could be like? He'd never killed a person before. Not once. And then a clip of his father. As always when he saw a clip, Edward didn't really feel much. Here was the dad his mother had run out on, but he didn't feel any of the emotions he should have. And then the video changed again, and Edward was shocked as he saw a young May, screaming and crying. It wasn't...It didn't feel right. If she hadn't just put him through all that, he'd have gone over and given her a hug.
"So you're saying I need something?" he asked, "Something like alcohol or tattoos or...fucking, I'm guessing," that last bit was said with a faintly raised eyebrow. "I'm not exactly one for...hobbies."

She decided not to answer him and simply was in her own little world. She was asserting dominance, it was a simple aspect really. She was showing that she was in charge and she didn't need to answer him. He answered her, no matter what. He was in her domain and would operate as such. Sure he was still rough around the edges but eventually he'd learn. But he seemed to be smarter than first impressions. But she also knew that he'd catch on quickly, or hoped he would for his own good. She wasn't going to go with kid gloves to make it easier for him. Primarily because he wouldn't really learn anything if she did.
"Fighting is about a hell of a lot more than punches and strength. It starts with your mind first and foremost. To learn to win you must first learn what it feels like to fail."
She said calmly. It was true though, and over time she did see her mother's point. After learning to fail she learned it hurt, a lot. So it made her fight even more so, to do whatever it takes to make sure she never felt that again.
"Yeah, I thought that whole thing was weird too. Your father seemed to believe it pretty strongly, enough that it made me think twice. But of course you're half human and I'm, half meta-human or whatever. Well technically I might be considered part clone but that's another matter entirely."
He seemed to be coming around better. Of course she also knew he was still likely to attack her. Did she deserve it? Yes. Would she stand for it? No, she'd put him in his place. But hopefully it didn't come to that and he went with it, even quietly.
"I never said it was healthy Eddie, that's not the point. But something that helps you get rid of some aggression. Survival techniques work really well, something we'll be doing later on. It'll be miserable at first, but it helps. I think partly it speaks to the primal side we have in us."

Edward's glare returned as May didn't reply to him. He didn't much like it when people ignored him, especially not in a conversation like this. So he was planning on ignoring her in return. He was still furious about the mind games she was playing dressed up as "fight training", when it was anything but so far, and her ignoring him was just a step too far. If she was going to force him here and keep him here, she could damn well at least answer him. But then what she said caused a reaction. "It wasn't my fault," he snapped, "You set me up to fail. Not. My. Fault." That was one thing he was adamant on.
When she spoke next, Edward couldn't find anything in that that particularly moved him, so he just kind of grunted a reply like he wasn't really listening. If she was going to ignore him, he'd ignore her as well. He didn't really get what she was talking about with the half-clone thing, but he didn't want to lose face by asking. As cloning did feel just a little bit ridiculous, even for this family. Perhaps it was a running joke with his father or something? He was trying very hard not to care. It was difficult, but made easier by the fact that his cousin had thrown him into a fight he had no chance of winning and then made him watch...that.
He was at first just idly nodding to what she said, like he wasn't really listening, but then he heard what she said about survival techniques. That didn't sound fun. "Survival techniques?" he asked, trying to sound angry and not all that curious, "What sort of survival techniques? And suppose I don't feel like doing anything miserable?" He wasn't sure why being related to May meant he got it far worse than the other students at this school, but he got the distinct impression none of the other staff at the school were going to step in to help him here. They'd had to have had some idea of what he was letting himself in for when he'd come down here today, and they hadn't warned him

"In the grand scheme of things yes, it is your fault. You see I set you up to see what you were capable of. I didn't ensure you'd fail quickly. You'll see in a few weeks you'll do infinitely better. However it's best to simply move on. Dwelling on defeat leads to insanity and insanity leads to Sabretooth. That's a road no one should go down. Not to mention I'd hate to have to put you down."
She said with a shrug. Yes she put him in something severe and she did feel bad. But the Howlett's were a dying breed. She simply couldn't afford to go soft on him. She didn't know that status of all of the family's enemies but she had to assume they were alive and well. She didn't like the idea of leaving him unprepared and untrained. As he asked about the survival techniques she laughed lightly.
"Nothing too terrible. The X-Men will drop us off somewhere in the wilderness with little to no supplies. We'll need to make it to a pick up spot that is usually between two and 7 days away. I'll wait till it's nicer out. I may be a cruel bitch but I won't make you do our first camping trip in below zero weather or snow. As for if you want to go or not, well it's not up for debate."
She said as the lights dimmed only to come back to a traditional dojo. Outside one door a babbling creek could be heard. The smell of calming incense filled the area and calming string music came from apparently nowhere.
"We're almost done Eddie. I just need to see what you're actually capable of for the rest of your training."
She said as a faceless man in a karate gi appeared, ready to fight.
"He has been programmed to defend himself, evade and deliver basic kicks and punches. His fighting level is, well basic. For the sake of this first exercise, no claws. Anyone can stab and slice but if you can't block or punch you're dead in the water."

"It's not my fault," Edward repeated, and then there was a growl building in his voice this time, "You knew I wasn't going to make it. And I'm not doing that sim again. Seeing that happen to you once was...enough." The growl was still there, but he was determined on that point. He didn't want May to be put through that again, and he didn't want to see it. As far as possible, he wanted to avoid seeing his relatives - or anyone - impaled on a car. "Move onto what?" he asked, "Another unwinnable fight? More mind games?" Fight training with May was definitely less fun than it had been earlier. For one thing, he wasn't winning.
He narrowed his eyes further as she described survival skills training to him. Well, that didn't sound like a barrel of laughs either. "So you're really saying you're going to drag me out of classes for a week and get a superhero team to waste their time dropping me in the wilderness?" His anger was tempered with scepticism this time. "And I doubt you're going to drag me out if I don't want to go." He wasn't about to argue with the cruel bitch comment, but at least she wasn't going to drag him into the wilderness in the winter. Instead, she was going to have him get beaten the crap out of him indoors. Whoopie.
He then looked around as the scene changed again. He looked like something you might find in a good martial arts movie, which of course meant he was about to get into another fight. He didn't want the incense or the music. They calmed him down, and he fought better when he was a little bit angry. "You've seen what I can do," he commented, but he didn't even sound angry as the surroundings calmed him down. He sighed at her words, and his claws retracted back into his arm. It'd been a while since he'd had to fight without him, and it'd be strange to get used to. Still, he knew where to hit to make someone hurt. He just hoped this fight was winnable.
He didn't give the man in the gi a chance to act first as he darted in, starting the fight with a jab to the throat. It worked a lot better than a punch to the face, in this experience. The man blocked it, however, and Edward was forced to step back to avoid a strike to his gut. "So I just need to hurt this guy?" he asked

She made a little laugh sound as he said he wouldn't do it again. He very much would do it again and several times before the month was up. Not to mention by the time the year was up he'd be extremely familiar with every square inch. Soon enough she'd be able to do her homework while she defended him, which would be useful. But that would be further down the road, which she was accepting and would be ready for.
"More mind games? Possibly. Mind games are key to any fight. The first person to lose is the one who realizes he can't win. Convince your opponent you can't be beat and it'll be true."
She said with a light shrug. It was true though. Everything about fighting was mental. All you had to do was believe you could win and winning became easier. Of course knowing how to fight certainly helped. From what she'd seen though, he did have some talent.
"Don't underestimate me Eddie. On the one hand over powering you onto a jet wouldn't be that difficult. Not to mention I could easily render you unconscious and just dump you in the forest with a map if that's what you prefer. However I'd pretty much be worried sick and then hunt you down which would defeat the whole reason for the thing. But you see the X-Men have a healthy level of fear and respect for our family so yes, they'll drop us off."
She said before sitting down on a cushion, crossing her legs and watching her uncle. Going for the throat, impressive. She smiled and nodded her head. He knew how to fight but clearly it was street fighting. Not a terrible style but it would need upgrading. It was a solid base though.
"Hurting is pointless. I just need to see how you handle yourself and what skills you might have. I've found it works better on a 'live' opponent as opposed to just a punching bag. Impressive first move though. Going for a major weakness like the throat. I kicked him in the junk my first time. Actually I still do it on occasion."
She said with a laugh.

The laugh made him grit his teeth even more as he faced the man in the gi, and he was stepping around, forming something of a circle as he continued his conversation with May. The laugh didn't only annoy him, it unsettled him. It sounded like she knew things he didn't. Which she almost certainly did. Well, certainly. "Are you sure?" He asked, still sounding rather blunt and annoyed, "As in my experience, breaking the other guy's ribs or arms or jaw is the key to winning a fight. The guy who loses is the first guy who gets hurt." Edward didn't buy into all the wishy-washy mind over matter crap. He definitely didn't think that thinking you would win would make it so. Hitting the other person more than they hit you accomplished that normally.
He snorted at May's threat, more to avoid looking scared than anything else. He hadn't seen May in action, but she certainly acted like she thought she could hurt him. And if she had the X-Men whipped, then well, he knew he didn't stand a chance there. "So you do care," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm as suddenly the man in the gi lashed out. He was fast, but it wasn't difficult for Edward to dodge it and return with a kick, aiming for the knee. The gi man raised his leg so it hit the shin instead, but it still made him stagger back. Edward followed it up with a punch to the stomach, as the man in the gi still had one hand protecting his face and throat, and then an elbow to the face. The elbow was blocked, but still the man in the gi was sent backwards by Edward's aggressive, if unpolished and untrained, fighting.
So he wasn't looking to hurt the guy. Well, Edward's fighting "style" revolved around hitting areas that hurt and going for quick, direct impacts, so he'd have to adapt slightly. But he certainly wasn't one for dancing around or manoeuvring his body for throws. He was cut short by the hologram throwing a punch that caught him unawares and took him in the shoulder, but he figured out he should turn even as he was spun back to compensate. Somewhat clumsily, he turned the turn into a roundhouse kick, using half-remembered self-defence techniques, but the kick slammed into the man in the gi's hip and didn't accomplish much.

She laughed lightly. His idea of ending a fight was very wrong. She herself had fought in intense pain and refused to give up. Of course he would soon learn that. But right now they were at a basic level of training. Simply seeing where he was at and what she had to work on with him. From what she could tell then she had a lot to work on.
"Some broken ribs ends a fight? You fought some real sissies didn't ya?"
She asked with a laugh. It did seem accurate to her. If he thought a broken jaw or ribs ended the fight he would be in trouble. Especially when they got to the, 'fight while impaled with something' test. Of course that came later. She looked forward to that, seeing him over come something so major. She remembered the look on her mom's face when she passed that test. It hurt like hell, but she did it. She ignored his comment about actually caring and rolled her eyes. Of course she cared, but he might not be used to that. From what she gathered his mom was...slightly distant. Sure, maybe she was good, but she wasn't prepared to raise a Howlett. She watched him attempt a roundhouse kick and made a 'hmph' sound.
"So that was an interesting...I guess kick. Hopefully you don't have to fight a serious opponent anytime soon."
She said as the man in the gi vanished.
"Time for a quick lesson Eddie."
She said standing up and moving over to the middle of the room, motioning to the pillow she'd been kneeling on earlier. The man in the gi returned, but now standing in Eddie's position, mimicking his movements.
"You showed some promise but you need to be careful. First rule, wait and assess the situation."
As the man darted in like he had May simply caught him by the wrist and with a quick flick of the wrist, snapped his arm.
"Rushing in is dangerous."
She said letting go of him and the man reset. He rushed in again only to get a claw to the gut and slicing up.
"Just because he looks human doesn't mean he is."
The entire scene faded and they were standing in the empty metal room.
"But you did good. You're not completely hopeless so we have a semi-decent base to start off of."

That laugh was very quickly getting on his nerves. It was the kind of laugh that made him think he was about to get hurt very soon. "Most people tend to give up when you break their ribs," he said, annoyed, "I fought with them cracked a couple times, and it hurts like a bitch." But then again, broken ribs didn't really affect him for very long. He briefly wondered what would happen if he cracked May's ribs, just to see how she'd act, but then again, she'd probably make him regret it very very much.
He noticed her staring at her as he attempted the kick, and his face heated slightly. "The angle was bad..." He said as an attempt at an explanation. He of course, didn't have any idea about the wondering about his life she was doing. "And I've fought serious opponents before," he said with a scowl as the man in the gi vanished, and in his anger he let something slip, "I've beaten bloody vampires before!"
He stepped back as May promised him a lesson, and he almost winced in preparation of the lesson involving him being hurt, but then went to kneel on the pillow as she gestured to it, surprised. Maybe he wasn't going to get his ass kicked. But then he saw how the man in the gi now moved, and he recognised his own movements. So she was going to be effectively beating the crap out of a hologram of him. Brilliant. He winced as he watched the brutalities done to the man in the gi, only because he was aware that that was what she'd have done to him had it been her he was fighting.
"I don't rush in," he argued, "I just...tend to go with it." It was true that he didn't exactly plan what he was doing, but it had always worked well before. He snorted as she called him not totally useless. "I guess I should say thanks?" He commented sarcastically

May stood in the abandoned, empty room and looked at her uncle/cousin. The little simulation was done and now it was time to finish up, then make plans for their future training sessions. True he might not have 'rushed in' in the strictest sense but he definitely didn't feel it out. He had no idea exactly what to expect from the opponent and he was only TOLD there was one opponent.
"The first key is to always take into account your surroundings. Looks for any way you can utilize them to possibly better your chances. Not to mention there could always be another opponent in hiding. Many of our family's enemies rarely travel alone. From what I hear that Romulus guy has an army of people, including Sabretooth, whom you met earlier and whom has claimed he genuinely fears Romulus. If that doesn't send a chill down your spine you're an idiot."
She said with a sigh before going to the computer and typing something in. A massive I-beam appeared on a wheel high above them.
"Never bet on being able to break bones because..."
With a click the beam swung down and slammed into her. It sent her crashing into the wall that, were it a weaker metal, would've at the very least dented from her impact. She lay there groaning and stood up.
"Second time this week I've been hit like that. SOme Jackass claimed to be the Rhino. Wasn't the real one but lived up to the name. Anyways, I have an adamantium skeleton. Only a handful of people can bend or even break adamantium and they include people who are basically gods or damn close to."
A light shone down on her, basically being like an X-ray and showing the metal skeleton underneath.
"I'm not the only one with a skeleton like this. Hell, a couple even have skin like this and I've heard about some guy with the stuff coating his teeth. Anyways, the key is to never assume your opponent has a normal skeleton or body. Assume anyone opposing you is a threat and needs to be treated as such."

Edward was aware of May looking at him, and he turned to look back, wondering what she was thinking about. Probably how best to torture him next, if this session was any indication. Still, the look made him uncomfortable. It vaguely reminded him of the looks a teacher would give when you'd fucked up in school, or done something wrong. True, he hadn't especially cared when teachers had done it, but he suspected that had something to do with the fact that teachers didn't do things like threaten to drag you kicking and screaming onto a plane and leave you in the wilderness. That possibly had something to do with it.
"You told me there was only one enemy," He commented, having stayed quiet while May talked about how he could use the environment to his advantage. Alright, that one might be true, but still, "I wasn't going to be wasting time looking for enemies who weren't there. I had one to focus on already." He did admit to himself, however, that anything that scared Sabretooth, he really really hoped he never ran into. But with a bit of luck, and seeing as he had no plans to, he wouldn't ever meet this Romulus, and he could avoid what sounded like a brutal beatdown. Really, everyone won in that scenario.
Edward looked up as the beam appeared on the ceiling, and was fully prepared to have to dive out of the way of it, when it slammed into May. He took a second to wonder what on earth just happened, and then jogged closer to May. Surely she wouldn't have done that if it would have seriously hurt her...but that was an extremely hard hit. If it'd hit him, he had the sneaking suspicion he'd have broken a bone or fifteen. He wouldn't have expected to be able to be able to get up for a long while after a hit like that. But already May was getting to her feet. She looked like she'd been hit, but not that she'd been slammed into and smashed into a wall. "Okay," He said, "Remind me why the fuck I needed to escort you?" He was pretty sure she could take anything without his help.
His jaw dropped slightly as the x-ray showed the metal on May's bones. "Okay, I'm going to ask the obvious question here," He said, "Why do you have a metal skeleton?" Surely she hadn't been born with that...And if she had, he felt really cheated genetics-wise. He'd just gotten a thick skeleton.

She smiled and gave a 'tsk tsk' motion. He'd misheard her, something that she didn't truly care for. The idea of being ignored bothered her to no end. It was a serious issue that she was dealing with. However, that hadn't really helped. Of course this case of being ignored, or misheard could prove extremely dangerous in the future.
"Incorrect Eddie. I told you to fight him and see what you could do against him. I never even mentioned that he was the only one, you just assumed. Keep that in mind for the future."
She warned him. However as she showed him about her nigh-indestructability and adamantium he asked a really honest question. She laughed lightly before reaching into her bag that was there and lighting a cigar. After a fight, or serious attack she enjoyed a good cigar. She puffed and laughed lightly.
"Oh I don't actually need your protection Pup. I was simply standing in for a civilian target. It's more fun than a computer generated person or a dummy. Plus I get to give you sh*t off the top of my head."
She said with a laugh. Her laughter increased as he asked about the skeleton. It was an honest question, certainly one she herself would've asked. She decided to just go blunt and go straight to the point.
"The metal is adamantium. It's practically unbreakable and gives me claws that can cut through most materials. It's the same thing that was done to your father and partially to my mother. I volunteered to have this done, it was excruciating. But it needed to be done. My mother was going rogue and I was the only one who could stop her."
She said with a sigh before shaking her head. She didn't like talking about her mom. It was a sore topic for her and something that would always be rough for her to deal with.
"Well enough talk about that, Pup."

The 'tsk tsk' motion pissed him off. He didn't appreciate people trying to treat him like a kid. "Not like another person could hide in here," He snapped, "It was a pretty open environment just now. And I couldn't smell anyone else." He wasn't entirely sure he could smell the first guy. It's not like he was paying attention to his nose when his eyes could make out the opponent in front of him. "But I'll keep it in mind," He said, somewhat sarcastically. He knew May was trying to help, but by god she was going about it in an annoying way.
He raised his eyebrows as she started puffing at another cigar. "You smoke those a lot, don't you?" He asked, "That's at least the second I've seen you smoke just while I've been here." He'd smoked a fair bit as a teenager, but it was hard to find anyone in America who'd sell to someone in underage for a reasonable price. "I wouldn't mind a drag, if you're offering." He then narrowed her eyes as she said that they could just as easily have used a hologram or a dummy. "Use something else next time," He almost growled, "I don't give a shit if a dummy or a hologram gets fucked up. Sadly, I care if you do."
He couldn't stop himself from paying attention when she talked about the metal on her skeleton. It was pretty cool, in a fucking gross way. He almost shivered at the thought of someone changing his skeleton. Coating it in metal or whatever. "So you're what...indestructible?" he asked. "As I've had a grand total of one rib and my nose broken over the course of about four years of fight, and that took three people, and I've seen my bones stop knives. You're saying you're even tougher than that." Edward took a second to change his plans of hitting May if she got any more annoying.
Edward really wanted to know more about the adamantium, and May's mother, and all of that, but he got the feeling she wouldn't appreciate him asking, and he'd already been through a lot today. Just one more thing to take issue with. "What's with the "Pup"?" He glared.
