It was a cold night in New York City , the Black Bat was standing on a rooftop near a warehouse. He didn't like being in NYC but he had no choice. He followed a ring of human traffickers all the way to New York and was determined to bring them to justice tonight. He had the group in his sights and was ready to strike any moment but he chose to wait until they scattered a bit so that it would be easier to take them out. He had counted at least 16 men , heavily armed. 5 men were standing outside , and the rest was inside. He had no idea what they were planning but he figured it did not matter since they wouldn't be able to carry out their evil plans anyway. No , Mason would make sure of that no matter what. Truth be told if one would ask Mason why he did what he did he would not know the answer perhaps it was to carry on his family's legacy perhaps it was his own way of seeking redemption. Or he just did it for the rush he felt when he punched a goon so hard that they had to eat through a straw for a month. It was likely a combination of the three. His eyes shifted and he noticed one of the thugs was walking into an alley , possibly to use the bathroom. Mason jumped from one of the rooftops to another and was standing right above the man. After the man pulled up his zipper and Mason jumped down. The poor guy wasn't expecting it and was not prepared especially after the Black Bat knocked the gun out of his hand with a batarang. The man pulled out a knife , which Mason found amusing. The thug charged at Mason who swiftly grabbed the man's arm at the wrist and the elbow applying pressure to both spots caused the man to drop his knife Mason shifted the hand that held the elbow up until he had his shoulder in lock and smashed the man face first into the wall effectively knocking him out cold. He grabbed the grappling hook from his utility belt and aimed it upwards launching him in the air as he graciously flipped onto the roof back in position. "Too easy."

Aileen was out patrolling the rooftops, in lieu of working out that day. She'd been for her usual four mile run that day, but hadn't done any muscle work or training. Instead, she'd been saving herself up for going out. She was in her usual Hawkeye costume, the full schebang with the mask and everything, and had her custom bow and her quiver. She had no idea what she might find tonight, if anything, and so had one of every arrow and two cable, explosive and blunt. It wasn't much of a patrol really. It was more walking about on the rooftops, looking for anything going on and listening out for sirens while she kept her Hawkeye phone and her Avengers communicator on. So far nothing had happened in particular. She'd heard sirens going off once, but by the same she'd gotten there the cops had had it covered. There was never a night in New York without sirens. Even just one in this area was a quiet night.
She paused as she saw a group of men standing outside a building, almost like they were standing guard over something. That was just a little suspicious. She crouched down on a roof overlooking them, keeping still and keeping an eye out for movement. She almost got too relaxed, and so she missed it for a crucial second as a figure dressed in black leapt from a rooftop. He almost looked like a Bat, but they were all in Gotham, as far as she knew, and she hadn't heard anything about one of them coming to New York. So she took off after the guy, and swung on a cable arrow into the alleyway, landing slightly roughly, just as the Bat beat the belligerence out of somebody. He looked like one of the men who'd been standing out on guard. Without pause, she notched a flash arrow. The suit the guy was wearing looked armoured, and if it came to it, she didn't want to find out the hard way if it was.
"Who are you?" She asked, injecting some professionalism into her voice, "And what are you doing here? Who is that man?" She kept the arrow levelled straight at him. If it went off near him, it'd blind him for at least a few seconds, giving her enough time to get something done to him. Sure, he looked like a Bat, but that didn't mean anything.

Gabriel visited his fathers’ memorial and old home a lot more than he often cared to admit. And most times, like tonight, he would combine the two visits. He could remember enough of New York from when he was younger to know that it should be a lot busier than it ever was now in the main routes, which was his only real reasoning for taking back routes at most opportunities. It felt wrong to see the difference between what it should be and what it was, despite the city’s increasing recovery. He had taken the subway across most of the route, but he still preferred to walk at least some of it.
As he turned round one of the alleys on these back-routes he saw a few men around one of the ware-houses. Gabe saw the flicker of movement as the Black Bat took out the man from his distance away. His costume flickered into existence as he started running forward. The warehouse appeared suspiciously well-protected. It was far enough away from any major roads that they only needed a couple of guards, and Gabe could make out at least four. Besides, he knew from much experience- and admittedly News-stalking- that Bats would rarely attack someone without a good reason.
They were a long way from any of the Bats’ usual territories, but it seemed plausible that they were trying to branch out from Gotham- after all, who could deny that having a Bat around was always helpful? And what with the current state of the Avengers- at least based on the footage Gabriel could find- they needed the help.
He stopped in place and looked up as the older man alighted atop the roof. Gabe was still a couple of dozen metres away, and Hawkeye appeared to have noticed Black Bat before his ostentatious costume-summoning (which would have definitely drawn some attention had she been looking in the right direction for it).
Gabe watched Hawkeye’s descent and threatening, and he knew that this was going in a dangerous direction. He was no public speaker, but he was willing to try if it prevented another “hero fighting hero while something important is going on instead of doing anything useful” situation.
He took to the air and shot off to the air and stopped, floating, almost half-way between them but a little to the side- meaning he had not just blocked Hawkeye’s target.
”He’s Black Bat, and he’s probably being awesome. I’m thinking that a fight between you both would be roughly evenly matched, take a very long time and make you both exhausted for whatever hopefully valid plan he’s got.” There. That was a pretty rallying speech; and about as much as Gabe was able to get himself to say while pretending to not be highly intimidated by two of the coolest heroes around (admittedly he would describe most heroes as such) and having to mediate between them.

Mason was surprised that another hero was aiming an arrow at him , but he knew for sure that he didn't like it. But he decided to play it cool not wanting to alarm his targets. He raised his hands a bit to show that he meant no harm to her. His facial expression changed though when he noticed a teenage boy floating in between them. He raised one eyebrow as he inspected the boy , he didn't seem to smart as he stood right in the middle of two dangerous people but then again maybe he had some sort of powers that made him one of those powerful yet uncontrollable kids , anyway Mason had to be careful with these two. The boy seemed to have done his homework though as he knew who he was , not alot of people knew about the new Black Bat since Mason didn't carry the mantle for long. He scoffed when the boy said they were evenly matched and though it was possibly true , Mason believed himself to be the superior although that was not anything new for him.
"You're almost completely right boy , only thing I would change about your little speech is that 'evenly matched' thing. I'd definately kick her ass but I don't have time for that , see those men down there I got to kick their asses first and then I'll come back for you okay?"
He said while pointing to the woman known as Hawkeye the Black Bat's number one priority right now was taking down those crooks then maybe have a sparring match with the girl then go home sit back and have a drink. He walked towards the edge of the roof and noticed that the men were spreading out a bit , this made it easier for him to take them down without alarming anyone or getting shot. He looked over his shoulder and glanced at the two that seemed to have crashed his solo night out.
"See those people down there? Human traffickers , as in slaves so you can choose shoot that little arrow at me , and believe me you wouldn't be the first to , or get down there with me and help me out so I can get out of this damned city."

Aileen kept her bow trained on the Bat, but suddenly there was a kid there. And by there, Aileen meant he was floating between the two of them. He was a kid as well. Sure, he had the costume and from the looks of it, the powers, but he couldn't be more than sixteen. She really hoped he wasn't one of those wannabe-heroes. "Who are you?" She asked the kid, succeeding in keeping any exasperation out of her voice. If she'd known this is what tonight had turned out as, she'd have gone jogging instead. She'd been expecting possibly a few assaults, maybe an attempted murder if she was unlucky, maybe a robbery. Not a Bat and some kid.
She internally rolled her eyes as the kid started to compare them and talk about them fighting. So he was also a nerd. It seemed like a lot of these young powered kids were. Still, it was almost kind of sweet, so she let him keep going. "Well I'd love to see that fight, but I'm guessing there's something on here," She said, "You're a long way from home, Bat. I doubt you'd leave for no reason." She lowered her bow and slipped the arrow back into her quiver. Looks like she wasn't going to be testing how protective his armour was just yet. She looked properly at the kid now. "What's with the...hovering?" She asked, looking between him and the ground. It was pretty strange to look at, and the effect was weird. Was that all he could do? Or was he one of those multiple power types?
She shot a glare towards the Bat as he talked about kicking her ass. Pointing that arrow back at him was looking tempting. She raised her eyebrows as he continued, but the effect was ruined by her mask. So she pushed it up away from her face and raised her eyebrows. Her identity wasn't a secret, after all. She looked to the kid and let a look of concern pass over her face, but that was replaced by irritation as the Bat finished speaking. God he was annoying. "You really won't be kicking my ass later," She informed him, "And human traffickers?" Her eyes narrowed again. Of all the scum of the earth, traffickers were the worst. Fortunately, her work in her area rarely took her to them, so it was strange they were in New York City. Who bought slaves in New York? Or America, for that matter. "I'll point it at someone else," She conceded, looking at the men down below. "You gonna want covering?" As much as she disliked this guy, she'd help out. She stopped to look at the kid. "This is dangerous," She told him, concern in her tone and on her face, "Real dangerous." She didn't really want him tagging along. He might get hurt. But she left it up to him, and pulled her mask back down for the fight.

”You can’t go around calling people “boy”!” For a super hero, Black Bat really was a jerk. Gabe hadn't seen enough of how he acted on screens (as he had very rarely appeared on them) to be able to work this out before, but it was blatantly obvious upon meeting him. Gabe had actually seemed to have stopped the King of Hearts from calling him that- and he didn't plan on doing repeating that- so he just hoped that he wouldn't try doing it instinctively again; which he would do if Bats kept calling him that. Of course it naturally followed that he would have to actually introduce himself. ”Thaumaturge; presently the voice of reason.” It was probably bad that a sixteen year old with very little experience had reason to believe himself the most responsible in a line-up of superheroes.
”The hovering’s to stop you firing at him.” She probably would have restrained from firing at a teenager, right? But still, he moved backwards slightly from the line of fire between them. Now that he thought about it, that was less of a Batman Gambit and more just a bad call.
Gabriel was just confused by Hawkeye's little charade at concern. It wasn't like he was going to deliberately go seeking her out if he knew who she was. Or that he wouldn't go looking for her first at Avengers’ tower if he was planning on it. But what really confused him was that she looked noticeably like one of the characters from Doctor Who- one of his favourite shows. And Amy was most definitely not bad looking.
”No ass-kicking each other. Have neither of you seen how dumb heroes look when they start fighting each other over a miss-understanding and let villains get away?” Gabriel really thought they probably were evenly matched. He knew (well assumed in Black Bat’s case) that they had both had training from brilliant fighters, and he could see they were both armed plentifully. He also knew that if they did start fighting they would be well into anything before he had enough time to spell-cast to send them apart. Unless he was willing to shock them into submission, anyway.
”I know what human trafficking is.” Just because he was younger did not mean that Bats should be assuming he was any kind of idiot. He landed, arms crossed next to Hawkeye, looking up at the Black Bat, making it clear that he thought he was being patronised with the expression on his admittedly shadowed face. ”There’s more danger of you killing each other off if I’m not here than there is of me getting hurt.” That seemed like a simple analysis of facts. Firstly, as far as he was aware at least, neither of them actually had any powers of their own- making them to some degree more vulnerable, although everyone knew that non-powered heroes had to be tough to do the work- and secondly, if anything got dangerous, he would be able to teleport them all out. Unlike the others.

Mason sighed when he heard the floating kid get annoyed at the boy remark , and he put his index finger and thumb between his eyebrows when the boy insisted on being called 'Thaumaturge' after Hawkeye asked who he was. "Yeah you never heard of Thaumaturge? He is like the next big thing have you been living under a rock or something? " He said sarcastically though he wasn't trying to put the kid down and heck at least the kid was trying and he knew from personal experience how hard it could be being a young hero so he agreed on calling the boy by his nerdy codename. It wasn't the worst codename he had heard of , not the best but certainly not the worst. And he wasn't sure why he wouldn't let a kid help him out and maybe get some more field experience , but he wasn't feeling like cleaning up after the boy.
He kept his eye on Hawkeye as she lowered her bow and took off her mask made a remark about him not kicking her ass before questioning the human traffickers story , was it really that hard to follow? He thought to himself as he nodded when Gabriel said he knew about human traffickers , at least he was not stupid. He simply nodded when Aileen stated she would help him and told Gabriel how dangerous it could be. "You sure you wanna help kid? This is no walk in the park these men are willing to do some nasty things and you could get hurt." He was not quick to admit that he was slightly concerned about the boy , floating alone wasn't going to help him out much and Mason had enough blood on his hands already.
He looked over to Aileen and pointed out to the roof on the other side. "I could use you over there taking out the men on the right while I sweep the right , use your arrows to take out any other adversaries that come my while as I go in , after that you follow up. And you!" After speaking these words he turned over to this Thaumaturge kid and lifted his head a bit "I need a bit more details on what you can do before we find something for you to do so please spare no details just no nerdy stuff please"
