Flight
Near-invulnerbility

This can be increased by using prepared spells to increase his strength, but each time he increases his strength, it requires substantially more power. Currently, the upper limit is unknown as Kent has not had to test it.
Amulet of Anubis: This item was lost to Fate after the battle with the Spectre but after years of questing was located again by Kent's father. The amulet grants its wearer great powers such as:
Reality Perception: Dr Fate can see the network patterns of matter and energy that form the universe with unearthly ability. This enables the following abilities:
Extra-dimensional Detection: Kent has the power to perceive other dimensions. This allows him to find doorways to other realms and even detect objects with extra

Powers:
Thought Sharing: Kent has a family gift, a talent that runs in his family. He can share in someones thoughts by looking directly into their eyes. This was passed down from his father.
He is also an accomplished Sorcerer who draws most of his powers from the Articles of Fate and magic spells he has mastered. This means he is capable of:
Telekinesis: Kent can move objects of varying sizes with his mind.
Flight: Using his telekinesis Kent may attain Remarkable air speeds
Levitation: Kent can uses his telekinesis to levitate himself.
Damage Resistance: He can use the powers of the vestiges of Fate to make him very durable and resistant to damage. This allows him to stand up to super villains that are stronger than him.
Enhanced Strength: Kent may use his telekinetic power to supplement his physical strength. Kent can physically lift up to 25 tons with his strength.
Enhanced Sorcery: Due to the Helm of Nabu, Amulet of Anubis and the Cloak of Destiny, it includes Universal and Dimensional Spells, which increase Kent's gifts far beyond those of his own normal abilities.
Mystical Bolts: Kent is able to fire mystical bolts of varying intensities.
Spells: Ability to summon & use large amounts of magic to perform almost any feat such as shields, teleportation, increasing size etc.
Illusion Casting: The artifacts allow Kent to create all kinds of illusions and glamours.
Invisibility: Kent can use magic to bend light around himself.
Phasing: Kent can phase through solid objects using various spells.
Astral Projection: As Doctor Fate, he can project his consciousness into an astral form. This allows Kent to travel to the Astral Plane or travel around the regular plane in an astral form.
Dimensional Manipulation: Kent can manipulate dimensions to create extra dimensional storage spaces of various kinds, as well as create doorways to other realms.
Energy Manipulation: He can use magic to manipulate different types of energy. Past Doctor Fates have used this to manipulate the elements and even the lightning of the wizard Shazam.
Enhanced Intellect: The helm can temporarily enhance the intellect of the wearer, if the need arises.
Postcognition: Kent has the ability to see the past.
Intuitive Knowledge: access to insight and vast knowledge of the mystical and occult from spells to rituals and etc.
Psychometry: ability to see the past as well as the possible future of an object.
Cosmic Awareness: All of Kent's senses are attuned to the universe. That means that he can detect when something is off with the universe.
Magical Detection: Kent's magical affinity allows him to detect the presence of magic. Though this power does not stem from the artifacts, simply from his own magical gift.
Time Travel: Kent has the ability to travel through the time-stream. This ability is limited by Kent's own will, but he does not have the experience to use it often or the focus to use it to go further back than a few months. With focus and training, he may be able to go further in time with more training.
Super Speed: Kent can travel several times faster than the speed of sound. With prepared spells and extra energy spent, he can travel much faster, if need be, but usually he uses a portal for quicker travel.
Summon & Banishment: The ability to summon creatures or banish creatures
Limited Invulnerability: Kent has a limited form of magical invulnerability. It can be defeated by beings with equal or greater magical abilities or physical strength greater than Nova, Starfire or anyone in their strength catagory.
Interstellar Teleportation: As Doctor Fate, Kent can teleport anywhere in the universe. Though the more distant he travels, the more power the spell requires. It takes time to recharge between teleporting great distances.
Dimensional Teleportation: Kent can teleport to any dimension, thanks to the power of the helm. Again, this also takes a great energy cost, depending on the dimension and how close it is to our own plane. Teleportation may require recharging depending on how distant it is.
Solid Energy Constructs: Kent's magic skills can allow him to create hard light constructs from his magical powers.
Transmutation: Kent can change inanimate objects on a sub-atomic level. Often times, he will convert energy or ectoplasm to fill in the extra mass needed if he is changing the size of an object.
Enhanced Intellect: The helmet increases the intellect of the wearer. It once increased Detective Chimp's intelligence for a week after he wore it. This is not an active ability. Kent has to will the helm to do this and the enhanced brain activity leaves him exhausted afterwards.
House of Nabu's Soul: The Helmet of Nabu originally housed Nabu's spirit and allowed him to possess the current wearer; later, however, he was restricted to simply advising the wearer, unable to possess them. The Helmet lost its guiding intelligence with Nabu's death. But it apparently contains some residual guiding abilities as seen by its instruction of the new Doctor Fate.
Magical Security Systems:
Fate's Awareness: The Helmet of Fate is not intelligent in and of itself. However, Black Alice's encounter with it suggests that the Helmet is aware of the world around it in some fashion, and that it can respond to the mind of its holder.
Helm's Resistance: The Helmet can put up a certain amount of resistance to those it doesn't want wearing it, making it a struggle for them to try and use it.
Protective Enchantments: The Helmet had several protective enchantments on it. On several occasions, it was stolen by villains seeking the power of Doctor Fate; usually, the end result was that the wearer went insane when they tried to put on the helm.
Skills:
You've got a friend in me: Kent has a strange ability to find friends when he needs them most. This ability comes through to him anywhere in the world. Someone once called it the power of "synchronicity" or being in the right place at the right time.
Occultist: One who studies the mysteries of occult or hidden wisdom. To the occultist it is the study of "Truth", a deeper truth that exists beneath the surface: 'The truth is always hidden in plain sight'. It can involve such subjects as magic, extra-sensory perception, astrology, spiritualism, numerology and lucid dreaming. Kent's studies as Doctor Fate and studies of the journals of his predecessors have made him an accomplished occultist.
Weaknesses: (3 minimum)
1.) Infinite Cosmic Power, Itty Bitty Living Space: By not wearing the Helmet, (as the original Kent Nelson did at one time), Doctor Fate loses much of his/her power and knowledge.
2.)Do you hear that?: Kent must be able to hear the helmet in order to access its spells.
3.)Do you believe in Magic: Any magic equal to or greater than his own can injure him.
4) I admit, this was a bad idea: Even with the enhanced durability the Helm gives him, Kent is still human. He can still get sick, poisoned, be mortally wounded and even die.
5) Batteries Not Included: Kent is an accomplished sorcerer, but his form of spell casting requires a power source. If he doesn't have the articles then, he draws from his own life force. The Articles provide a power source he can draw from to perform magic without using his own energies. He can still cast some magic without the articles, but using too much can cause him to black out or even die (possibly both, depending on the situation).
6) You owe me a favor: The currency of the magical world tends to be favors. Many magical beings owe Doctor Fate a debt or two. Those favors transfer from Doctor to Doctor as the favors are owed to the office itself. The downside of this is that the debts owed to the office also transfer. Fate may occasionally have to repay these debts by performing a task to a powerful being.
7)It's only shell shock: Kent was involved in the accident that killed his mother. He ended up seeing her die. The end result of this traumatic experience has left Kent with Post Traumatic Stress. Stress can cause him to have traumatic episodes and it reduces him to a quivering mass for anywhere from minutes to hours.
8) Family Matters: Kent has discovered he has a son. He will do anything to protect Chris from harm. And that includes using his considerable powers to protect his family. This could be exploited as a weakness if anyone found out about his family ties.

THE REST[/u][/b]
Personality:
Kent can be difficult to work with at times. His anger often gets the best of him. His mother was killed in a car accident at age 13. This caused the young Kent to spiral into a depressed state, which he still battles today. Feeling like his life was out of his control caused him to turn to anger. His father was gone for days at a time always claiming that he was "working." This caused Kent Jr to focus his anger on his often absent father.
As the years went on Kent pushed most of the people around him away, with the exception of his friend and lover Liz Kane. His father attempted to do the best he could as a single parent, while still trying to rebuild the relationship with Kent's half sister. Laryn harbored resentment at her half brother from the time they were young. This shaped the way Kent began to look at the world from a young age. With the death of his mother, he began to withdraw and push people away.
This history has been known to cause Kent to be at odds with the people he encounters. He is very serious, but he has a talent for being abrasive and distant often. Working with him has been described as difficult at best and infuriating at worst. Though if you can cut thorough the rough exterior, Kent has been described as having a heart of gold and being the person you want in your corner in a fight. He is fierce and loyal and would do anything for those few friends he has. As he has reintegrated into society, he's become easier to be around. Seven years on his own, in another dimension has left him with some rough edges. His distance comes from the fact that he's often able to see the very large picture, thanks to his cosmic perceptions.
History:
Kent V. Nelson Junior is his father's son. Whether he likes it or not. He was born to Kent Nelson Senior and Inza Fox-Nelson 3 years into their marriage. Kent was away often throughout his young son's life, due to the responsibilities of being Doctor Fate and a member of the legendary Justice Society.
Kent Senior attempted to repair his relationship with his daughter Laryn, who was 12 years older than junior. However, she could not forgive her father's behavior, which was the cause of the divorce. Her relationship with Kent Junior was one of disdain. She believed she had been replaced by him and took it out on him often. This was something the young boy would not understand fully until he was much older.
His mother, Inza was killed in a car accident when he was 13. Kent junior fell into a deep depression after that incident. His father attempted to help him using his skills as a former psychiatrist to attempt to help him. When it was made clear that he could not, he got him help. As the years and therapy went on, his grief turned to anger. His father, who went absent on "business" or locked himself in his office for days on end, was the of his son's rage and scorn.
When he was in high school, he befriended and consequently fell in love with a girl named Elizabeth Kane. She was reclusive and shy and he was angry and hurt, and they helped each other heal. She started to come out of her shell and he began to cope with the loss of his mother, but Kent always felt like Liz was hiding something from him. The relationship between himself and his father though, was still strained. Though it did ease when Christopher was born for a while, anyway.
The year Kent turned 18 was when the trouble began. New York was attacked by something that could only be described as Gods. Unknown to him, Kent's father rushed off to face Mordru as Doctor Fate. Liz came to Kent and admitted everything to him about her double life and suddenly a lot of things made sense. Kent watched battle on the news and not only saw, but felt, his beloved Liz die at the hands of Darkseid's Omega Beams. He was wracked with grief, but that was no where near the end. Hours later, Renee showed up with far worse news. While doctoring her wounds, Kent learned that his father was Doctor Fate, one of the most powerful sorcerers in the universe and had disappeared in a fight with the dreaded Mordru.
A few hours later, Mordru and his father reappeared. The Lord of Chaos had come to destroy Fate's child and take revenge on him. Doctor Fate emerged from a portal and the two sorcerers clashed with energies that shattered windows and knocked Kent and Renee off their feet. Kent gave Chris to Renee and told her to make a run for it. Renee tried to argue but Kent told her that he didn't want to lose his son either.
The battle raged on in front of him as Kent got to his wobbly feet though he could see his father was protecting him, perhaps at the cost of his own life. He looked back at Kent and pointed toward the house, shouting at him to get inside. Kent nodded and ran glancing back just in time to see his father and Mordu vanish. Kent sat in his house with the door locked for what seemed like hours. Then there was a loud crash from his dad's office and he ran to it. Only to find his father on the floor.
Kent ran to him and dropped to his knees. He looked over the wounds and realized they were severe. He removed the golden helmet his father wore with shaky hands. His father looked into his son's eyes and his final, dying words were "I'm sorry." With those words, Kent V. Nelson Senior turned to dust leaving only a helmet behind.
Kent sat there staring at the helmet, full of grief and rage. He looked over the helmet and placed it on his head, trying for some connection to his father. The helmet opened his mind. He felt his mind leave his body and soar through the cosmos. He saw colors and sights that no mortal man had ever seen. Scenes played out before him. He saw his great grand uncle take the mantle of Fate. And he saw all the others who had proceeded his father. He saw Eric and Linda Strauss, Inza Nelson, Jared Stevens, and Hector Hall. All holders of this power. Then he gazed upon the scene of the wizard Nabu, the last Lord of Order handing the helm to a talking monkey. He talked about the end of the Ninth Age of magic and that his time was over. He left his knowledge in the helm and enough power so that there would always be a Doctor Fate. And then the scene turned to his father.
He saw his father, lying in a dumpster broken and drunk. A derelict. He saw him find the helm. His mind turned to thoughts of his daughter and his ex-wife. All of his father's sins were revealed to him. He watched him struggle with alcoholism and trying to make sense of his new found responsibilities. He saw him meeting Inza Fox for the first time. Watched him battling with the demon Negal for the very souls of Inza and his friend Maddy. He watched his father fight along side the Justice Society who taught him to be a better hero. And finally, he saw his father's final battle.
Kent Sr battled a sorcerer named Mordru, one of the last Lords of Chaos. He watched them fight through space and dimensions, crafting spell after spell. Time seemed to have no meaning, Kent Jr felt as if he was watching a battle unfold across a lifetime. In the end, he saw Mordru banished, but the battle took its tole. Fate was mortally wounded. He returned to the Tower, where his son found him. As his son tried to process all of this information he remain curled on the floor of the Tower, comatose for two days.
When he awoke, the helmet whispered to him and told him what he must do. The tether to Earthly plane was shattered and the "office" his father inhabited was part of the Tower of Fate and he was now trapped in the Subtle Realms. Trapped in a world where his son could not be reached. The only way out would be to master the power of magic and force the Barriers open again.
Kent V. Nelson Junior, sat on the ground as the helm whispered to him. He spent the next seven years inside the Tower, cut off from the world, training under the Helm's tutelage. He literally dropped off the face of the Earth for a time. In those seven years, he learned to master some of the sorcery that would protect him as Doctor Fate. He knew it would take a lifetime to master all of it and it was then, he realized what his father's last words really meant. At the time, Kent thought his father was apologizing for leaving him, but really, he was apologizing for passing this burden to him.
After seven years, Kent has taken up the role of Sorcerer Supreme. Upon his completion of his training, he had a dream, telling him that he'd been chosen to be the Earth's Sorcerer Supreme in the interim. They did not expand upon that statement. Kent still does not know what "the interim" referred to, but he just decided that it would be one more burden to add to his current ones.
As Fate prepares return to the Earth from his interdimensional stronghold, he has made the decision to gather information and get the "lay of the land" as it were. Much has changed in seven years and he has decided to make his presence known but to remain on his own for now. He has a lot of lost time to make up for, a child he loves, who believes he's dead, and a different world from which he left behind.

Sample RP:
The final preparations were complete. Kent wasn't sure what had changed, but something had weakened the barriers protecting his home universe. With the proper application of magical force, Kent was fairly sure that he could gain access to it again. The last seven years had been filled with failed attempts to break back into his home universe. He felt that perhaps, the Tower was holding him there as a test and that once he had mastered what he needed to know, he could get back. This spell would be the most powerful he'd ever used, and might even kill him in the process. Better to die trying, he thought.
Kent took stock of himself in the mirror, looking at the long hair and beard he'd grown while in exile. He could have magicked them away at any point, but decided that he'd leave them for now. He summoned the vestments of Fate to him and channeled the power into the ritual. He knew he needed more power as he charged it. Something was holding him there. Kent reached a hand into his own chest, and a white light erupted from it. He focused the energy from his soul into the spell, reaching out to the soul of his child and using it as an anchor. His eyes blurred from the pain.
The spell began to work, but Fate felt a force resisting his push. He'd had enough after 7 long years. "I AM KENT VIRGIL NELSON. SUCCESSOR TO THE MANTLE OF DOCTOR FATE, LAST OF THE LORDS OF ORDER AND YOUR LORD AND MASTER. HEAR ME, TOWER. I HAVE EARNED THE RIGHT TO CONTROL YOU. I COMMAND YOU TO RELEASE ME. BY ALL THE POWERS I POSSESS, LET ME GO."
There was a final popping sound, like the snapping of a lid on a jar and Kent fell through the barrier between worlds. He tripped and fell into someone's yard. Kent looked up and saw a familiar site before him. The Kane estate. The spell had pulled him to his son. After seven years, it worked. Tears filled the sorcerers eyes.
He stood up and knocked on the door, only to have it answered by a butler. "Can I help you, sir?"
Kent nodded. "I'm here to see my son. Where's Renee?"
"Sir, I don't know who you are but..." The servant went fuzzy for a moment.
"Sleep, now." The butler collapsed into Kent's arms and he set him on a nearby chair. Kent's head started to spin. He'd used far too much energy getting home. He wasn't going to hold out much longer.
A familiar voice spoke out. "Don't you Nelson men ever call ahead?"
To his credit, Kent made it to "wha" before fatigue and shock caught up with him and he slipped into unconsciousness, collapsing with a thud.
