Taking a few breaths and squeezing her eyes shut, Lydia tried to get her hair to not be on fire. Nothing. She could feel it, just beyond her fingertips, the power that ran through the universe. It was big, and scary and far more power than she'd ever had before. And she didn't want it. Especially not now that the rather fiery side effect could give them away, no matter that it could probably help her defeat whatever would come after them.
"No..." she squeaked, her voice cracking slightly. "Not really warm. Don't actually think it's fire. Oh....dear god. Um. It's new. And weird. And I wish my mom was here to tell me how to turn it off." She took a few more deep breaths, stepping away from T'Shan, just in case she accidentally fired something off. She'd done that once or twice growing up, but those were regular photon blasts. Put holes in a few walls but that was about it. She wasn't exactly sure what she was shooting right now, but it wasn't photons.
"Why...*ahem* why don't you uh...go ahead...I'll follow. You know, just in case I spontaneously explode." Which I'm not going to do. I'm not. No. Not going to explode. Oh god what if I do? What would the radius look like? How far back should I be from him? Lydia looked at her hands a moment, turning them over slowly as if something would come to her by simply staring. She knew panicking would help nothing, but knowing it and not doing it were two totally different monsters. She tried to remember last time she had new powers show up, how Phil and James had trained her. But this was still so far beyond anything she had handled before, she was having trouble remembering anything.
"Maybe...I can use the scavengers as target practice...or something."

He watched her focus and watched her try and power down. It reminded him of the first time he wielded Mjolnir after fighting his father. He hadn't actually thought about that in a long time. He and his sister had just defeated their blood raged father and he had all of this power coursing through him. He wanted to fight more and meanwhile they still had to mourn and bury their mother. He shook the thought from his mind and turned it back to helping her, or trying to at least. As she mentioned her hair was both warm and not he was curious.
"ótrúlegt...."
He said holding his hands towards it. It was faintly warm, but he also wondered if she could make it hotter. It was hot enough that it would likely actually hurt him were her human. But it took quite a bit for fire to do damage, especially at this distance.
"Sorry, sometimes my AllSpeak fades."
It wasn't often he'd let it slip but it happened on occasion. In times of worry, stress or trouble. However his inner-monologue wasn't English.
"Very well then. But do not wander. The last thing either of us needs is for the other to be lost. But perhaps refrain from hitting the scavengers. It may be best to not antagonize the wildlife. When even the plants are higher on the chain than we are it is best to tread carefully."
He said calmly as he walked. The tree, what was left of it, was now just a husk.
"Breathe carefully and focus on a simple point. Make that your anchor."
He said calmly as he continued to walk. A tree this large would need a large source of water. Yes it had roots, but it would stay close to the water source.
"I suppose worse case scenario we can use your head to boil and purify water."

Lydia jerked back slightly from his outstretched hand, still unsure what she was capable of at the moment. She watched him warily, ready to put more distance between them at a moment's notice should something happen to him because of her. That always seemed to be in the back of her mind, that little fear that she'd hurt someone because she didn't know her own power or didn't have control. She thought she had it mostly under control by now, had learned to keep it under tight control. Now it seemed she had no control whatsoever.
"It...it's ok. Sometimes James slips into Russian when he's very tired." Her heart had started to calm down somewhat as T'Shan started to walk. She followed after him at what she considered a safe distance. She hadn't noticed she was breathing irregularly until he said something, then she took a deep breath, held it then let it out. She repeated that a few times, focusing on the middle point between T'Shan's massive shoulders, trying to clear out her mind.
"Haha, heeeey I can be useful for a change." She said, trying to lighten the mood. Once she felt calm enough, she kept her eyes on a wide sweep, looking for said scavengers. She could still feel the new, immense power, like a hole in the base of her skull. But it seemed to be ebbing just slightly as she followed after her Asgardian companion.
"How do you do it?" She asked after a few minutes of silence. "How do you walk around like everything's ok? Or at least hide it well enough that nobody ask questions? Or is it because everyone thinks I've got to be such a bright and cheery person all the time, the moment I'm not, they want to help? I don't think they can help...but they want to try anyway."

He watched her jerk back from his hand reaching out and understood. She didn't know what she was capable of and was trying to protect him. He understood that all too well. It was really tough. Wanting to be a part of something but also forced to keep people at arm's length for their own good. He knew that feeling and also knew only a few people truly understood it. Yes some like James would claim to understand, but he had no idea.
"Aye, I know. Luckily my Allspeak helps me understand. Usually though what he says is not too interesting. Although he once gave me a very good recipe for Borscht. That or he was cursing me to an eternity of eating it. Both seemed likely."
He said with a laugh. As he walked he stepped over the roots of the dead tree and could hear things stirring near by. Likely the tree owned this area but with it gone other predators were sure to try and move in. Which meant they needed to leave quickly before they got stuck in a turf war. Of course if he knew more about this world he'd suggest they try and take it over themselves.
"Hmm, ah yes my attitude. I have been told it is quite infuriating."
He said with a laugh. His seemingly happy go lucky attitude seemed to annoy most people. It seemed almost like he didn't care, which is the issue. He actually cared more than he let on.
"That is the key friend Lydia...."
He had decided they were friends. Which made sense since they were stuck here for however long so they might as well get along.
"I act as though nothing bothers me. Meanwhile I balance two kingdoms on my shoulders as well as the legacy of my father. I take it out through training usually, part of the reason I no longer allow others to train with me. I have to uphold so much, not to mention I love a woman who at best does not feel the same way and at worst, is not even into men. I was prepared to sacrifice myself and now find I am trapped in a strange world while my sister likely believes I am gone forever."
He said, not bothering to look back. He knew that if he let everything bother him it would be incredibly dangerous. So he put on an act, something his sister learned better than he. But he understood it somewhat, at least enough.
"No one understands how difficult it truly is for people like us. Aye people like James and Ginnie will pretend like they have it so bad. They have to deal with legacies and so forth. But if they have a bad day and loose their temper what do people say? They are only human. If we loose our tempers we could take out a city block in one swoop. Look at what happened to my father when he lost his temper. He is no longer allowed on Earth, he can not even visit my mother's grave. He pretends as though he is strong enough to accept it but one can see it kills him day after day."
He said before walking in silence. He began to examine the plants looking for their lushness. The lusher and denser it got the closer they were getting.
"He actually made my sister and I swear to honor his wished when he dies. He wants an Asgardian funeral, but wants the ashes scattered around my mother's grave, so he can look after her in death since he failed in life. My mother would make a comment about it being unbecoming of a ruler but she would hide a little smile. I hope to find love like that one day. Come Lydia, this way, the water source is nearby."
He said turning left and moving through some bushes and plants.
