"How much do you trust your networking Tigger? I've encountered a couple people who supposedly had good connections and ended up with bullet holes in the chest. Plus there's always the possibility of a headshot. That's why you keep moving. Makes it harder."
She said with a shrug. She'd seen more than a handful of people with shotty costumes end up in puddles of blood in a dark alley. Not only that she'd also seen a few wannabe heroes who ended up going the more vigilante route and begin killing or badly wounding criminals. Sure Roxy occasionally got a little over board with some of her fighting but she never wounded them like some people. Hell one guy had been beaten half to death. Punched repeatedly in the face, some son of a congressman or whatever.
"I only laughed because I was imagining you face planting through the hole."
She said once he'd sort of landed. She nodded her head before quickly moving down a staircase, silently. She ended up at a basement and found a locked door. She reached into her belt and quickly picked the lock. She opened the door and slipped inside, assuming he'd follow. She whistled calmly as she brought up a scanner. She was following some of the pipes before finding a grate. It was locked but she seemed unconcerned and began picking this lock.
"Flimsy masterlkocks. I could probably snap this lock if I really wanted to. Jam a birdarang or shuriken in and done. But leaving a trail is not my style."
She undid the lock and opened the grate. She tapped her mask and activated the nightvision before moving into the dark tunnel.
"From here on out, no talking unless you're spoken to."
She said briefly over her shoulder. She moved quickly and quietly, her rubber soles helping silence her steps. As she walked she kept an eye on her scanner. She slowed before looking for a grate. She looked up and eventually saw it. It was 10 feet up in the narrow pipe.
"This opening is right next to the evidence room. We go in, examine and leave."
She grabbed the grappling gun from her belt and fired it into the roof of the pipe where it embedded. She clipped the gun to her belt and quickly rose up. Grabbing tools she began to work on the grate as she hung there.

Adam opened his mouth, then closed it again at Roxy's question. For a moment he really DID want to brag about his own connections, even if most of them were rather tenuous. But, unfortunately the young woman had made an excellent point about needing to keep moving and, most importantly... someone getting an accurate headshot in. "Would you believe I'm also invulnerable?" He found himself asking instead.
"It would have also covered the faceplant which... admittedly... would still have been funny." He admitted with a grin and following behind the brightly clad superheroine (or was she a sidekick? Aren't Robins generally that?). Either way, he was following her easily enough. While he wasn't versed in stealth he WAS athletic. But, he stuck close enough to Robin that he was able to watch her pick the first lock, flexing his fingers along with the motion, as if trying to commit this skillset to memory.
He gave a short nod as she explained the other ways she could have broken through the lock more forcefully. "It would be more visually impressive, though. But in the absence of an audience, no real point to the risk." Adam admitted, still making sure to try and commit as much of what she was doing to memory as possible.
When he was warned to keep silent from that point forward, Adam merely closed his mouth before making the 'sealed and locked' gesture and mimed putting the key back into his pocket. So, he at least was on the same page as Roxy, even if that page was just 'do what I say'.
It wasn't long, though, before he got to see one of those gadgets that everyone in a cape wants: the grappling hook. He made a mental note to ask any inventors he knew if they could build him one. Already in his mind he was calling it the 'tiger's claw' drifting off a bit into that particular fantasy while Roxy was working on the latest in their series of locks.

"No, I don't believe you're invulnerable. You carry yourself as someone who is very very vulnerable. Of course it could all be a ruse. I've heard rumors about a man who works in a soup kitchen in New York who could potentially be the strongest Super ever. Of course those are rumors and he could just be a potentially strong and intimidating liar."
She said with a shrug. She'd contemplated looking into it but at the same time she also didn't really care. It wasn't her job to police supers and it wasn't her job to look into potential ones either. It did however intrigue her. All that power and he apparently did no heroics with it. It seemed odd, and a waste, to have all that power and not use it, provided he existed. Roxy was also fairly certain he was just a rumor for now. But if she needed secret muscle then perhaps she could look into it.
"The need to be visually impressive is a weak, useless desire. It's where I seem to differ on the rest of the Bat-Family. They go for imposing and intimidating. While it can work to end a fight before it even starts, sometimes I like a good fight."
Well most of the time she wanted to fight. It was sort of her thing, she loved getting in fights. She actually spent most of her time in the training room practice sparring. It was usually by herself against bots and holograms, but it was still fun. She didn't want to risk hurting anyone she didn't have to. Sure she knew that anyone she sparred with could likely handle her, and know the risks going in. Still it wasn't something she wanted to risk just in case.
Soon enough she unlocked the grate. She used a small camera to look around before sliding open the grate. She crawled through and then held her hand down to pull Adam up.
"C'mon Tigger, let's get this over with. Not a fan of police stations, regardless of the room I'm in."
She said in a hushed tone. She didn't want to risk bringing any extra attention to them. They were breaking into a police station to then break into an evidence locker. She had to be very careful about this. A lot of cops didn't like masked heroes doing their jobs for them. Sure if Darkseid was wreaking havoc in the city then they wanted all the masks they could get. But when it came to solving a murder then the heroes needed to stay away. Which meant they had an uneasy alliance with police, if it suited them.

"And I suppose I've yet to make any displays of strength, so we can't make guesses there and if I asked about 'intimidating' you'd tell me the costume is too ridiculous for that?" Adam suggested, stretching his arms above his head, wondering for a moment how he was going to get up the grate behind Roxy. In theory he might have been able to do a standing high-jump and catch her legs. But that just raised questions about how she'd take to someone climbing her like a ladder as well as if she could support her body and his own on the, presumably, smooth and rounded grates.
Her opinion on the theatrics of sueprheroics had proven quite interesting to the wrestler-like hero beneath Roxy as well, though, with Adam drumming his fingers on his hip in thought, looking for a way to explain his own feelings on the subject. "Well, there's another point for being visually impressive. Guys like Superman, or Captain Marvel, the old Green Lantern... they're as much part of their city's life as the landmarks. I suppose it comes down to what you want to DO as a superhero. Protect the innocent and inspire the good... or punish the guilty and terrify the bad." He offered with a sudden grin at her last remark.
"Oh, I enjoy a good fight myself. Vigorous exercise is an excellent stimulant for the mind and... well, the body. We should spar sometime. I bet it'd be fun." He suggested quickly. Since going for the 'superhero' lifestyle, he was finding that he got into plenty of fights, but the average hood on the street wasn't exactly the most challenging of opponents. Sure, when they came in crowds it got interesting since he had to keep moving... but he enjoyed a good old fashioned one-on-one and new sparring partners always meant new tactics and skills to adapt too. There was also the social element.
"Never fear, Girl Wonder," Adam smirked, hopping up to take hold of Roxy's offered hand, chuckling a moment as he allowed her to pull him up. Making note of how much ease or difficulty the action had for her. "infiltration and analyzation is what tiggers do best." He offered up in his best... well, Tigger voice. Of course, he knew for a fact that wasn't true. If he was any good with either of those things he wouldn't have left a post-it in the middle of Titan's Tower asking for help.
But, the rules of a good team up seemed to demand that one of them be the straight-man and one of them be the Chaplin-figure. And since Roxy seemed adamantly serious, he'd have to pick up the slack and see if he could get a laugh from her.
"Remind me, though, to get the kind of reputation Superman has. Where I can just walk into a station and ask for what I want. Or a Private Investigator's license. That could work too." He whispered, kneeling into a crouch next to the girl once he was up through the grate. He knew enough to know that she was going to be taking lead here.

"You are not super strong either. I find that impossible to believe. I've encountered a few people with super strength, they carry themselves differently. Marvel, Superboy even Scion on the Avengers. You don't carry yourself that way. So I'm gonna guess you're base line."
She said with a shake of the head. She didn't believe he had any powers. Of course she could be wrong and he had basic powers or at least less obvious ones like enhanced senses or precognition. It would explain why he was so good at Judo. Since he didn't look like the kind of person who was a world wide ranked Judo combatant. No Adam was a fool and perhaps that was simply his style. Lure everyone into a false sense of security. Roxy would figure him out eventually. She was also beginning to suspect pheromone based abilities, which was why she felt certain things. But she would look into that later on.
"Spar? You and I? I suppose so. But just know I won't go easy on you. I don't hold back when I spar, so don't begin whining when I break your bones."
She said before pulling him up. Once they were in the hallway she slipped over to the evidence room. They were in between shifts meaning it was wide open, and that was what she wanted. She wanted the room open to make it easier to go in and out. Sure she could take out whoever was in charge quickly, but would rather not. She began to quickly type into the computer, looking for the ball shot in the case they were investigating.
"Ok, Row 4, section 12. The code is 5, 12, 3, 18."
She said before going down the row and looking for the necessary box. She typed the code in and the drawer slid open. She began to examine the ancient bullets, using her mask to try and find more details while also taking pictures.
"No rifling. Ancient pistols weren't rifled either. Meaning these were fired some other way, or were inserted into the body. I got what I need, we need to go. The next shift will be coming soon."
She said before closing the drawer and heading back towards the hallway. She glanced down at her gauntlet to ensure the data on the bullets was uploading.
'Hey! You!'
"Crap, hurry up!"
She said more shoving him towards the hole than guiding. She then threw down two smoke pellets into the hallway, covering them as she disappeared down into the pipe and replaced the grate.

"I'd like to think I'm at least above-average." Adam offered with a mock pout. Or, as much of a mock pout as he could manage with his own mask on. Although he couldn't be too annoyed with the girl's appraisal of his abilities. She was, more or less, on the money. Everything about him fell well within human limits, and there were only so many hours in a day he could work on 'correcting' those 'deficits'. He cleared his throat, though, as Roxy addressed the possibility of the two of them sparring.
"I can't really be worrying about broken bones when I'm dealing with a contact sport, Robin." He offered, at least remembering to use her 'work' name rather than calling her Roxy. Given the girl's opinion of him, that was probably enough to be considered positive. "And if you've ever watched a high-level Judo competition well... there are people who will intentionally fall badly just to avoid letting the other guy get Ippon. Usually causes a broken arm or something." As Adam spoke of that particular tactic, his pout turned into a grin. It wasn't hard to imagine Roxy herself as one of those types. The sort who'd rather injure themselves than admit somebody else had won.
But, all of that was neither here or nor there as he allowed her to pull him up into the hallway. Keeping his body in a low crouch, fingertips just barely brushing the floor. In all, it bore a strong resemblance to the typical 'sumo' stance just before the fight started. Adam hadn't been sure what to expect, and if a fight was going to happen, he wanted to be in a defensible position... but, there was no fight. There was... nothing, really. Just the two of them.
He cast a curious look in Robin's direction, but he received no response, instead all he could do was follow the girl as she approached a computer and began typing away. I should really learn more about hacking. He considered after a moment. He'd been taking a few classes and reading books but it certainly wasn't going to let him get into a police system with the seeming speed and ease that Roxy was displaying for the task.
When she began reading off the location and code of the bit of evidence they wanted Adam fumbled a few moments as he reached into the costume's jacket, pulling out a pen and scribbling the information on his arm. In the back of his mind, he wondered why there wasn't a pad of paper (at the very least) in the pocket with it. Once again, though, the effort proved unnecessary as his partner proved capable of easily recalling the information on their short trip.
While she examined the bullets, he leaned close as well. Looking for anything he might notice. Any details that, perhaps, she might not (an unlikely occurrence. She WAS the detective here, not him). But, she seemed satisfied just with her brief examination. "Fired some other way." He mumbled to himself, trying to shake SOME theory into place.
All at once, though he was jolted from his own theorizing by a shout. Without much time of his own to respond, Roxy was shoving him. She had quick reflexes, he had to admit. Then again, she likely had more experience dividing her attention between worrying about discovery and examining evidence. Whatever the case he took a deep breath the moment he saw the smoke begin before jumping down the hole, hitting the ground with another roll and glancing back over his shoulder.
"So, this your average night, Girl Wonder?" He inquired, beginning down their original path at a light trot, working under the assumption that eventually the police would realize the only exit they could have made and pursue them... but also that they could take an only mildly hurried pace. Maybe even discuss what the latest finding meant for the case.

"My definition of base line is just human. Regardless of where you fall in that spectrum, still baseline. Since so few people are extremely peak level strength one could argue that in and of itself was kind of superhuman. But that's a conversation for another time."
She said quietly. She was impressed though that he seemed to know broken bones were going to happen. Also his use of technical Judo terms. She shouldn't have been surprised of course. He was a nationally ranked judo combatant. Of course she'd never actually tell him that. Her mom had mentioned a time or two that she should give up heroics and focus on that. She could really do well, win championships, maybe even Olympics. Of course she had no real skills in Tae Kwon Do and her judo skills were likely honestly below Adam. She would never admit it but in a straight Judo Vs Judo fight she'd end up on her beck. That thought gave her a sudden chill she couldn't explain.
Once they were back in the sewer and heading back towards the she glanced over at him and his comment. It was an honest question, especially knowing her. Breaking into a police station, looking at evidence. It was also heavily frowned upon, of course not the type of things people in her line of work cared about.
"Not even remotely Tigger. I haven't punched anyone yet. But the night is still young."
She said with a nudge. She did have a tendency to hit a lot of people, that was well known. Of course at the same time she was working on getting better with her violence. It was a slow process and she wasn't trying as hard as she could, but oh well.
"Anyways, what do you think about the 'bullets' Tigger? Were they fired another way..."
She asked as they exited the pipe. She closed the grate and locked it up again behind her.
"...or were they just a Red Herring? Poison someone with a potassium overdose and then jam those in postmortem so everyone focuses on that. Complicated yes, but what about this isn't?"
She asked with a laugh. She fired her grappling gun up to the skylight and held her hand out for him.
"Next we need all the information on the body."

"Alright, I suppose if you wanna put it that way, I'd be baseline." Adam found himself admitting. It was hard to argue with her statement. "Though when someone breaks a record in a strength competition, does that make them superhuman?" It was more an idle thought, after all to break a record in some strength competitions would require hitting a point that was considered impossible. Like the days when a four-minute mile was seen as impossible... but now was a standard!
He shook his head, though, realizing he was trailing off on the wrong tangents. Fortunately, it was in his own mind, so Roxy wouldn't have to realize how far afield he was thinking. Fortunately, she gave him another opportunity to rejoin the conversation and give the appearance that he knew what was going on.
"Well, I'm sure we could find a couple of muggers to blow off some steam with. I know being in motion helps me think a lot of the time." He offered up. "In fact, I'm going to claim lack of motion as the reason my theories in your room were so... just plain awful." He couldn't help grinning at the nudge, though. From a distance this particular Robin had come off as quite standoffish, but he had to admit: he was very much enjoying this particular outing.
"The bullets? Well, you said there was no rifling, which is consistent with a firearm of that age. But, I don't see why someone couldn't have a custom made gun that ALSO didn't have rifling. From my understanding the only issue that would create is making it slightly less accurate and shortening the range. But then, why go to all that effort? The stranger a mystery, the more clues it SHOULD leave to solve it with, right? Or have Sherlock Holmes stories lied to me?"
Okay, that was a little embarrassing. Just another admission of how little he really knew about being a detective. Either way, she seemed happy, though. And it was an infectious mood as Adam took her hand with a grin. "Y'know, I've never ridden one of these. Are they hard to make?"

It was a complicated discussion that had happened many times before. It seemed to come up a lot when ranking people. Of course WHY they felt a need to rank people was a whole other complicated scenario she didn't like dealing with. Her birth parents had been obsessed with rankings and species and left her to die. She did sometimes wonder if they ever missed or regretted what they'd done to her. Of course she assumed they likely didn't and just brushed it off as another dead human, no more to worry about.
"Well when discussing that there's other things to take into account. Like was it REALLY them or did they take supplements? I mean if you need to take all kinds of pills and so forth to up your strength you're not really at a human level, it's cheating. But that's just my personal views."
She said with a shrug. He also brought up a good point about finding some muggers and smacking them around. She wasn't opposed to it, and if she encountered some muggers and would be criminals she'd leave them hurting. It helped her feel more relaxed. It wasn't healthy by any means, but it helped.
"With the right file you can even take the rifling off of a normal gun. It's tricky but not impossible. Besides, accuracy is a moot point as all signs point to the killer being in the room with the victim. Now as for how they got out...we need to stop looking at the door. If anything you should be even more familiar now than you were. We just entered a building through a skylight and broke into a police station through a drain. There are numerous ways in and out, not even counting a key. Besides, a complicated and confusing mystery just means the clues aren't so obvious. We need to look at everything. Things that were ignored or discarded could be the clues we need."
She quickly pulled them up with her grappling gun once he took her hand.
"Not difficult to make, just tricky. Sometimes the cord or spool snaps and you fall."
She said calmly before they were pulled up through the skylight. Once free she let go as they landed. She placed the gun back on her belt and turned her attention back to Adam.
"Next we need to see the crime scene and look at coroner's reports."
She said before walking back to the ladder that led down to his car and her R-cycle.

"A very philosophical outlook." Adam chuckled a bit at the breakdown of Roxy's thoughts on where human ability and supplemental chemicals began to blur the lines. It was an interesting enough conversation on its own, but it was also being peppered between their actual business... but still, he filed it away as something to consider later on. Having a few topics of conversation handy during awkward silences was never a bad idea.
Besides, dropping that topic seemed a good plan considering Roxy was in the middle of giving him another lesson on how easy it was to modify the equipment of a murder... and also on her observations regarding the case. She spoke with enough confidence on the matter that Adam could do little more than nod his head with each of her statements. And why not? She was the expert, or the closest two it between the two of them. An actual detective. He just read some stories and a how-to book... And was debating taking an online course.
"Well, I can think of a few ways to get into a locked room. It's a pretty popular genre of mystery stories. A lot of writers have come up with some very clever ways of killing a person and making it look like a room that only that person could have been in. Loose panel in the ceiling, perhaps? A window latch that doesn't actually latch... little things that would be obvious to scrutiny but in an 'open and shut' case would be overlooked?" He offered his thoughts as Roxy moved on once again to explaining how grappling guns worked.
Falling from these heights would definitely be unpleasant. "Well, I'd say a cat always lands on his feet..." He retorted with a grin before Roxy outlined the next location they needed to reach.
"My, a police station AND a coroner's office? Do you spoil all the boys like this, Birdie?" It may not have been the wisest of his decisions, but Adam just couldn't help himself from teasing his partner in... well, not quite 'crime'... although they'd committed one tonight. So maybe that was accurate? Either way, he was careful to only make his remark after they'd safely been deposited on the next building.

He was more clever than she'd given him initial credit for. Or at the very least he knew more about breaking and entering. Sure he still wouldn't be her first choice of a partner for sneaking in somewhere. But he could do in a pinch. Plus he provided another point of view which could be useful. After all if she could solve this mystery it would help her in the grand scheme of things.
"Careful about that whole landing on your feet thing Tigger. It actually can happen pretty easily. Sure you'll shatter your legs in the process but you'd still be landing on your feet technically."
She made her way to the alley where Adam's car and her R-cycle were parked. She slid down the ladder and climbed onto the R-cycle, grabbing her helmet in the process.
"Careful with the Birdie comments Tigger. Usually it's criminals that try that and then they loose teeth and they're on the ground writhing in pain. But since we're teammates I'm kind enough to give you a warning. The next one though, you loose teeth."
She said with a smirk. She started the R-cycle up once he was ready and took off to the coroner's office. Luckily it wasn't far. But they'd need to park further away since it would be just as tricky to get in. However she had her own tricks for getting in. It wouldn't be easy but it was definitely doable.
