There was a smile in the Red Hood's voice. "A new name. That's not a bad idea. Robin is a sidekick's name, anyway. You could use a name that says you're not living in the shadow of someone else. Be your own woman."
Red Hood tucked his things away and checked the trunk to make sure his contents were still there. Nothing worse than being a thief and having other thieves steal from you. It gave guys like Red Hood a bad reputation. "Let me know if you need materials. I have stuff in my workshop that can provide your costume with Bat-Family level protection. Just so you don't accidentally get shot or anything. Just make a list and I'll get it to you."
The ease at which she agreed to work with Red Hood was interesting. She obviously had a lot tied into this particular quest. Owen closed the trunk and nodded at her. Made sense that whoever was pulling her strings would figure out a way to keep an eye on her. "Triple redundancy. Very paranoid. Must be afraid to lose a covert asset like you then. Or they're just trying to keep you on a short leash. I don't know enough about them to judge." He patted the roof of the car.
"Hop in. If I was going to hurt you, I would have done it already. You'd already be dead. We can come back for the cycle. I'll get a truck and we can move it so that you can work on it in private. We'll get you a workshop set up to use." Red Hood climbed in the car and started it up, waiting only long enough for Robin to comply before gunning the engine and pulling out of the alleyway.

A new name. She'd contemplated that for months now. Robin didn't suit her, especially when she refused to work with Batman. She honestly thought about taking over Huntress, let Helena retire, spend time with Vic. She knew she'd need to challenge and beat her in a fight. But perhaps a name like Huntress wouldn't be enough. Perhaps it was time she chose something else. She'd figure it out later. She'd likely improvise something and let the new costume speak to her. Either way it'd be better than Hub Girl when she was 14. Then it hit her. He'd used the word 'woman'. She wasn't girl, or kid. He viewed her as a sort of equal, or at least colleague. Or at least that was what she thought.
"Bat-family level? Nice. I'll figure something out. I prefer simple though, and no more capes. Capes never seemed practical to me. I mean this one is nice. Ballistics and Kinetic resistance, plus it's warm. I do enjoy how it works as a distraction, but that can be duplicated with other means."
Admittedly at this point she was mostly talking to herself. But she was also happy. For the first time in a long time she felt like something more than a sidekick and more than just a rookie hero. He was talking to her like someone who cared and someone who viewed her as useful and more than just someone with a couple decent skills.
"I think it's equal parts paranoid and trying to keep me from running off."
She said looking over her shoulder at the R-cycle and the broken communicator in the distance, before getting into the car. Those were behind her now. They were part of an old life and something that was going to be in the past. She wasn't Robin anymore. SHe'd take the mask off to prove it but opted against it. She wasn't that ready to get that close to him. She sat in silence before glancing over at him.
"So are they true? The rumors I mean. People on the streets say you're the mastermind behind all the crime in Gotham. They call you the puppet master. No relation to the Ventriloquist....I assume."

"Yeah, capes have their uses at times. I don't dislike them, but I prefer not to use them myself. For every advantage they give you, they give you two more disadvantages." Red Hood took a turn and shifted the car's gear. He pulled a pad with a pen stuffed in the ring binding out of his pocket and tossed it to her. "Start making me a list of everything you'll need. It'll take me a day or two, but I'll get it all rounded up. Let me know your measurements and I'll see if I can make you the body armor layers in your sizes. I design and build things as a hobby, but it's rather practical in this line of work."
Red Hood slowed down at a red light and then made a right turn followed by a left. The map in his HUD tracing out the way to the money man's penthouse. He'd seen this girl's potential and decided that she would be a good partner for the time being. If she proved herself, maybe longer term. He had to admit that the Bat-Family might be onto something with the whole greater numbers thing. It wasn't like there were a lot of skilled applicants out there. "Well, either way, it should be your decision whether you want to leave or not. It's your life and if you're capable of running around in a mask, you're capable of making your own life choices."
He looked over after making a left and heading up the street. "The mastermind? Not really. I've managed to take a good portion of it over, but nowhere near all of that. There are more people that seem willing to sign on with me though. There's a master plan in mind. Need to move a few more pieces on the board first before it can go into full effect. Is that going to be a problem for you?"

She caught the pen and pad and listened to his offer. It was similar to what Helena and Vic had first offered when they caught her running around as Hub Girl. Truth be told it was a terrible idea what she'd done but it was better than just sitting around, reading and writing. Apparently they felt her schooling was vastly important. She personally figured she made it that far without knowing all the details of the civil war or the pythagorean theorem so who cared? She knew right from wrong and that was what mattered. She knew having the ability to make things better and not doing it made her a bad person.
"Hmm, alright, sounds good. The clothes are simple it's the weapons that'll be tricky. I can make and maintain my own bow and arrows, it's just the supplies. I mean I did design my own trick arrows. They may not always work but even failing an arrow is an arrow."
It was why she'd ensured even her trick arrows had their usual titanium tips so if they failed they'd still work as an arrow. They seemed to have a success rate of 75-80%, that's what counted. Some arrows worked better than others, like her sonic arrows since they used their own movement as a weapon.
"Yeah try telling that to my higher ups."
She still had issues referring to Helena and Vic as mom and dad. Of course that was because those titles were tied to the pair that had dumped her off on the Gotham streets in the middle of winter. Her options were prostitution or death. She sometimes wondered which option had been better. That thought was quickly shoved from her mind, as it often was.
"Well I suppose it depends on what you defined as crime."
She said with a sigh. She knew that in Gotham the types of crime were any and all. She'd seen so much in her short time on the streets and she hated it. She could see his point in controlling it though. Take over the crime and you can control which crimes are committed.
"I mean robbing those who rob innocent citizens and eliminating those who are too dangerous to walk the streets is not exactly crime in the strictest sense. Exploiting young girls whose options are....or death is a different matter. Besides, if you let me get my revenge, I'll take your side."
She knew it was shallow and almost pathetic. But she didn't care. She was tired of those people walking the streets while she had to wait and go through the proper channels and do things right. She knew they had done terrible things, she had proof as she was there. But apparently that didn't count.

"We'll set up your own work area, so that you can build your arrows. Whatever you need. I'm good with tech. I can teach you a thing or two and maybe help you perfect some of the designs."
The car came to a stop on a street in front of a large apartment building. Owen shifted it into park. He adjusted his gear and looked over to Roxy. The mention of higher ups made him laugh. It wasn't like anyone could give her orders now. Owen shook his head. "You don't have higher ups, anymore. You made that choice when you came with me. You're your own person."
He checked his guns reflexively. Making sure they were both fully loaded and in complete working order. His new partner was interesting, that was for sure. "Well, the deal is pretty simple. They move guns, sometimes they move some drugs. No selling to kids, no kids being used... Well, the way that happened. Anyone steps out of line and I shoot them myself. It's a very effective way of making sure that things happen the way I want. Eventually, I plan on phasing the drugs out all together. I just need to gain full control of them first."
"I will give you the option of your revenge, but know this. People will die. More than just the ones you're after. But in the end... Well, in the end I'll save Gotham the way the Bats never could. We can make this city a better place. Batman and his people treat this like some fight between costumed vigilantes, it's not. What I plan to do is nothing less than a war for the soul of the city itself. They call me a criminal, but I'm going to save this city. That's why I want your help, partner. I think you have what it takes."
