Aileen grunted as she landed on the roof, her momentum stopping momentarily as she bent her knees to absorb the shock. She'd deviated from her usual patrol route, and as such wasn't entirely sure where she was going. She didn't have a real reason for deviating, other than her usual patrols were getting stale. She was clearly doing her job, as she was finding fewer and fewer crimes along her patrol route, and crime rates were down for the entire city, although she doubted she'd contributed very much to that. And it was great, it really was. It was absolutely fantastic. But it was also boring. She wasn't going to deny that she got a kick out of her heroics. An adrenaline rush. So yes, she was happy that there was less for her to do, but she wasn't getting that hit she enjoyed so much.
So as a result, she was trying out new places. She didn't entirely know where she was going, and there were things like especially large leaps across rooftops that she wasn't used to, but maybe she'd get to see some action tonight, and it'd been a long week without any so far. She'd had a few close calls, where she'd heard sirens or been told about something going on, but the police had already been there when she arrived, and she was missing her usual kick. She started running again, her knees aching slightly from the jolt, making the next jump far more easily. She was in her full gear again, her purple Hakweye costume and mask, with her bow slung over her shoulder and her quiver of arrows at the ready.
She continued on for another fifteen minutes, and she was tempted to just turn around and call it a night when she heard voices. Raised voices, coming from nearby. She turned towards the voices, and then took off running. The boots of her costume were specially made to muffle the noise of her footsteps, so the sound barely carried. It took her maybe twenty seconds and one rooftop to reach the source of the yelling, and she crouched as she observed the scene, trying to stay in the shadows.
Two men and a woman were standing with handguns pointed directly at a man in his fifties, dressed in a nice suit. A mugging, something fairly typical. She stopped to listen to the shouting, but it was a lot of "give us everything you've got or we'll shoot". Nothing out of the ordinary. The man looked terrified, but he was beginning to hand over his wallet, his bag. Aileen paused and slid her bow off of her shoulder, but she didn't know what to go for. The woman, who appeared to be the leader of the group, was pretty much obscured by their victim, and the only clean shot Aileen could get was to her neck. Even with a blunt arrow that'd kill her, and Aileen wanted to avoid that as soon as possible. But shooting any of them might prompt them to start firing, and then she'd have the blood of the old man on her hands. If she dropped down, she could potentially disrupt them long enough for the man to get away, but then she'd have to take three people with guns. Could she win that fight? Probably, but there was risk. Her costume was bulletproof, but she could still end up hurt or worse. Her fingers tightened around an arrow, and she slowly notched it, looking for an opening. She wouldn't fire unless she had to. she needed to come up with a better plan.

"Hello New York!!" Dinah grinned as she stepped out on the ledge of her hotel roof. She knew it wasn't exactly the best idea to announce her arrival like she was talking to a stadium full of people, but it was up so high, it was lost in the wind. She took a few steps back and then dove off before firing her grapnel and swinging to the next rooftop. New York, the city that never slept. Part of her wanted to live here full time, she loved it so much. But it was already so full of heroes, she'd be stepping on toes. So she settled for visiting whenever she had a tour or needed to meet new talent or find a recording studio that suited her needs. But she really did love this city with all of it's crazy people and none of the crazy clowns.
She had no destination in mind, just running along, seeing the sights from her unique vantage point. She was finding less crime than expected, taking her time instead to people watch from time to time, resting in between sprints on roofs. She was used to Gotham, where there was practically a mugging on every corner. But each city had their own quirks and eccentricities. Little pockets of crime instead of wide spread, more than likely organized as well. That would be harder to suss out and she didn't really want to get into such deep rooted crime if she wasn't going to be in town for long. She also gave the Avengers mansion a wide berth as she didn't feel like running into any of them while she was here.
While stopped for a moment, she heard some raised voices and she perked up, finally finding some action. Dropping down to street level, she pulled a few batarangs from her gauntlets and stalked quietly closer to the end of the alley. Ah a good old fashioned mugging. With guns! Fantastic. She took a quick look at who's hands were where and then tossed the projectiles at their so very conveniently outstretched hands and scoring hits on all three. Then she pulled out her escrima, loving the terrified looks on their faces, thinking she was Batman. Eh, Close enough. Her manic grin was enough to keep them scared as she moved in.
"Don't you know mugging someone in New York is so overplayed?"

Aileen was still crouched with an arrow pointed at the scene when somebody else showed up. Just what she needed, for this situation to get even more complicated. She was prepared to capitalise on any distraction the new arrival provided, to shoot one of the muggers or jump down and tackle one of them, but instead she was treated to the sight of the three of them dropping their guns and two of them keeling over, clutching their hands. What the hell? Her eyes snapped to the newcomer, who was now wielding what looked like a stick that was crackling with electricity, like a taser. So one of the Bats? She switched her bow to the person. She didn't trust Bats, really, especially when they interfered with her jobs.
She snapped her bow back to one of the thugs, the one who was still standing, as he reached for a gun, and sent an arrow whistling through his hand. Hopefully she wouldn't do any permanent damage. He cried out as blood flowed from his hand, but he definitely wasn't going for the gun. Well, now the newcomer knew she was there, so she notched another arrow and pointed it vaguely in the newcomer's direction. No need to be outright hostile. "Who are you?" She asked. She knew it was a Bat, but that was all she knew, and she wanted more answers. She jumped across to the other rooftop, getting into a better position. There was no need to get on the ground, and if the Bat was looking for trouble, well, it made a lot more sense for Aileen to be up here.
Another thug went for his gun, and Aileen sighed, dropped the arrow she had notched, drew a blunt arrow and sent it into his ribs. He was already on the floor, so he didn't drop, but there was definitely a crack, and he stopped moving. "Don't try that again," She said to them, and the third one, the woman, slid away from her gun, her hands raised, one bleeding. "Good." Aileen said, and then tried to snap back to the newcomer, but she'd dropped the arrow, and there was nothing else she had that wouldn't be noticeable or potentially cause collateral. "Who are you?" She repeated, trying to act like she had an arrow. If necessary, she'd go for a special one, but it was a last resort.

While she was about to send the guy leveling a gun at her into the house of pain, (he had the gall not to drop it or fall to his knees in pain), she pulled back her swing as an arrow pierced his hand. She didn't completely stop her swing, cracking him upside the head just after the arrow pierced his palm. But she jumped back after, looking up to where the arrow had come from. She blinked, activating the night vision in her mask, spotting the archer standing on the roof threateningly.
"Heh. Cute." Nightwing grinned mostly to herself. She'd heard of someone running around with a weapon from the paleolithic era on the Avengers. Seemed a damn good shot with it too. Of course she'd have to be to run around with demi-gods and Captain freaking America. She wanted to know who she was. Kind of disappointing she didn't know who Nightwing was, but hey, she wouldn't judge. Too hard.
She sighed as Hawkeye let loose another arrow at one of the idiots on the ground. She hadn't really felt in danger of being shot herself even with the arrow trained on her. Now, with the night vision, she could see she was pretending, but she wouldn't point it out. "That hurts...that really hurts. Nightwing. C'mon. Justice League member extraordinaire?"

Now that the newcomer was closer, within clubbing distance of the thug, Aileen was able to make them out more clearly. It was definitely a girl and, yep, she recognised the suit. It was a Bat, but not one she'd heard a lot about. Most of her knowledge was about Batman, and the Blue and Black Bats. And she wasn't the biggest fan of Black Bat, at the very least. Still, she didn't rush to put her bow away. Even if this girl was better than the others, Aileen still didn't entirely trust her.
She heard the "cute" comment, and raised her eyebrows. Was that about her? And if so, was it mocking or complimentary? Knowing what she did about Gotham's favourite family, it was probably mocking. She wondered if she had enough of a reputation for people from other teams to know about her. It wasn't like she was Ginnie, who was without a doubt a celebrity, or James, Captain America himself. Sure, both Hawkeye and Aileen Barton (and it was public knowledge that they were the same) had done photoshoots and interviews and the like, but she was pretty sure she didn't attract the same amount of attention as the others.
Aileen wasn't sure how convincing her charade of pulling back an arrow was, but she knew she couldn't go for a real one without giving away that she'd been lying. Plus, she really didn't want to use a special arrow unless she had to. She didn't even have any blunt force arrows with her. "I recognise the costume," She told Nightwing, "And the name. You know who I am?" She sounded less suspicious now, but still slightly guarded. She didn't feel threatened.

Dinah knew the Bats all had a reputation, and she couldn't blame Hawkeye for being wary. But still, it hurt. She knew she wasn't her father, who used to be all quips and joke cracking, but Nightwing usually was not so bad. She didn't have a cape. She didn't need something so pretentious. Her brother was the actor, he liked the flare. She liked not getting caught on stuff.
Turning to the guy who had been about to hand over his wallet, watch and whatever else he'd had on him she put away her escrima. He was plastered to the wall in fear, eyes wide as she looked at him. She just pointed to the end of the alley and said one word. "Go." He didn't even hesitate, he just bolted. Nightwing cracked a smile at that. Gothamites didn't move that quick, but it was nice to see other people had some sense of self preservation.
Even with Hawkeye still on that roof, her bow drawn back, Dinah pulled out some handcuffs and went to tie up the three would be muggers like nothing was wrong. It was a small show of trust, but she knew if Hawkeye did decide to fire at her, her suit would protect her. It stopped any manner of bullet, so an arrow shouldn't be any worse.
"I know of you, yes. I wouldn't be a very good member of my family if I didn't know who's who out there. So, you coming down here Hawkeye, or are you staying up in your little nest?" She said, roughly pulling the first person's arms behind them and cuffing them.

Aileen was slightly surprised by Nightwing turning her back. It was a show of trust and faith, and one that she hadn't been expecting given the slight tenseness of the situation. Still, she was happy that she gave off a vibe like she wouldn't shoot an ally in the back, that was always a plus. " I might stay up here," She replied with a shrug, and then a small smirk played over her face as she looked over Nightwing from behind. " Not got a bad view." Well, she'd had her fun, made a flirty comment, now it was time to get down and help deal with the bad guys. She could probably find a few comments to make down there as well. Nobody said work had to be boring. Aileen could have climbed down, but that would have taken time and effort and she wouldn't have looked very graceful doing it, so she made a show of putting away an arrow, and drawing one of her cable arrows. She just felt too embarrassed to admit she'd been pointing an empty bow at Nightwing this whole time. She fired the cable into a wall lower down, and the motor inside started to reel in the fibre, bringing her off the roof and swinging in low. She kicked her feet out to stop herself from a hard impact, and the cable dropped. She landed and rolled to her feet, grinning slightly. So maybe she was trying to show off a little bit, to represent the Avengers a little bit here, but it was all good-natured. Mostly. "We going to take them to the cops?" Aileen asked her as she pulled out her own handcuffs, "Or are we just going to leave them here for the cops to find?" Usually she did the latter option, because it freed up more time for her to keep patrolling, but she was trying her own display of trust, giving Nightwing the choice here. She went up to the woman and forced her arms behind her back, closing the cuffs around them. "I've been in worse than these," She commented, "So quit complaining." Criminals were pretty much the only people she dropped the friendliness in her tone for.

Nightwing grinned as Hawkeye decided to show off for little ole her. It was quite amusing to say the least. She felt like showing off just a bit herself to the Avenger. Well, more than she already had. A gratuitous view of her ass seemed to draw a comment earlier, so she filed that away for later use, just in case she needed a go to distraction of some form for one thing or another.
"Eh, we can just leave 'em here. I'm fairly sure the guy who ran away already called the cops." She blinked a few times and brought up her HUD, scanning the police frequencies. "In fact, I'm pretty sure of it." She handcuffed the last guy and pushed him over onto his compatriots.
"Worse than those you say? What about better? Better ones come with interesting stories that you can't share in polite company. Those are the best kinds of stories really." She grinned at Hawkeye then turned toward the front of the alleyway as the text of what the police banner was saying scrolled across the bottom of her lenses. Well, tonight was going to be an interesting night. They had their pick of crimes to choose from. Robbery, Grand Theft Auto, Arson.
"Well, what do you feel like tonight, little birdie? Bad guys in cars, robbing things or fiery buildings? I'm getting reports of all three."

Aileen looked over her shoulder at Nightwing and responded with a grin of her own to match the one the other girl was wearing. So sure, maybe there was a tiny bit of her showing off, although a lot different, at the moment at least, to how Nightwing was showing off, but it seemed more to play up to each other then to compete, by this point. And she definitely didn't mind that.
"Saves us some time," Aileen commented, lifting the woman up slightly and then pushing her over, "I'll miss the handcuffs, though." She could always just get another pair from Avengers Tower, but she thought Nightwing could make something of the comment. At the mention of better stories, another grin found its way to her face. "Well, in terms of worse," She began, "When Ginnie Stark arrests you, she doesn't do half-measures. And she gives you so much ammo for handcuff jokes for years to come. As for better, well...I'm not sure I want those three hearing those stories." She snorted as she said that, moving to lean against a nearby wall, doing so in profile to return the favour.
At the mention of crimes they could pick, Aileen dropped the joking, flirty tone for a moment as the thought about it. "I'd say go with robbery," She decided, realising that Dinah had just given her the chance to make the decision, another show of trust, "I don't drive, so car crimes tend to be a miss for me." It was pretty much an endless source of embarrassment for her, her lack of ability to drive, and one Ginnie was quick to make fun of for.
And then with the professional part done, before they set off, Aileen's tone went slightly back to how it had been. "You do names?" She asked Nightwing, "Or just codenames?" Her identity wasn't a secret, so Dinah almost certainly knew who she was, anyway.

"Oh? You mix business with pleasure huh?" Nightwing shot back about missing the handcuffs. "Though I suppose for us hero types, those costume cuffs just don't cut it. Broken my fair share of those for sure. Only police issue ones hold up long enough," she laughed, plotting out possible routes to any of the disturbances they could take on foot. It was s lovely to have GPS in her HUD, made getting around much easier in strange cities. Though she was fairly sure whatever her GPS said, Hawkeye could probably find a quicker route if she just told her the address.
She put in a quick alert to the police about their tied up would be muggers, giving them a quickly blown kiss and a finger wave before walking away.
"You don't drive?" Nightwing cracked a wider grin. Couldn't help it really. She had been driving motorcycles since the age of 10. Not being able to be that mobile sounded so foreign to her, she had to at least suppress a laugh. It wouldn't be very polite to laugh. She probably had a good reason for it, and laughing at Hawkeye wasn't going to help matters. So she just kept the grin on her face as they walked and she focused in on the robbery in progress. Electronics shop silent alarm had been tripped. Silly thieves. Always check for a secondary alarm. She gave Hawkeye the address and cross streets, letting her take the lead and keeping an eye on her marker for it.
"I unfortunately do not do names on the first date. Sorry. I will say this though, unlike your Ginnie, I like to keep my very public day job separate from my night job. Too much collateral damage should those two meet."

Aileen snorted as Nightwing made her comment. Okay, so maybe not all of the Bats were hostile, dislikeable douchebags. Maybe just that one she'd had the bad luck to run into. This girl actually seemed like she'd be a bit of a laugh. "Only if the business is with someone I like," She said with a wink practically in her voice, "And only if they're any good at the pleasure." It was hardly a new experience for her, flirting in costume, but she was used to knowing who was under the mask, just who she was flirting with. This time, she didn't have that, but if anything, it made it a little more interesting. And Nightwing certainly didn't seem to mind. They only seemed to be spurring each other on. "I've never gotten to try police ones, sadly. I'm a good girl. When it comes to the law at least." So she was laying it on a bit more thickly than usual here, but she wanted to see if she could say anything that would throw Nightwing.
Aileen sighed as she heard the amusement about her being unable to drive. Yeah, people liked to make fun of that one a lot. Including most of her friends. Still, it was a mostly good-natured sigh, coupling with her cheeks pinking slightly. "Yeah, yeah, I can't drive," She waved it off slightly, but she still sounded pretty light-hearted about it, "Can't even drive one of those little mopeds. Let me guess, you were born in a car and never stopped driving them?" She somewhat childishly stuck her tongue out at Nightwing after saying that. She tilted her head to listen to the address, and nodded, sticking to the ground this time as she mapped out a route in her head. She knew roughly where she was going.
"I get it," She said, her tone all seriousness as Nightwing explained the name thing, "I just check, seeing as I'm y'know, well known for it and stuff." Even if the other girl hadn't been a Bat, Aileen would have been surprised if she didn't know who she was. But then her tone turned flirty again, "You don't do names, but do you do anything else on the first date?" She would have winked were she not faced away.

"Oh I wasn't born in a car. But I have been riding motorcycles since I was about ten." She followed along after Hawkeye, letting her lead the way on her streets. She had the GPS map going just in case, but, like she would know her way around Gotham, she trusted Hawkeye knew where she was going in her own city. She liked the other woman, not as serious as some other heroes she'd met. She just wondered how the hell she maintained just one identity. Dinah would be so paranoid about villain attacks on her concerts and at her home. On her family, especially her niece. Of course Gotham villains tended to be a bit more crazed than the average.
"You are indeed well known. And I really gotta know how you maintain that balance and not go crazy with paranoia. I mean, I get paranoid already." She could hear the sirens as they got closer, and see the smoke in the air. She hoped they could be of some help to whoever was there.
"Oh I do lots of things on the first date." She laughed, doing a mental inventory on her supplies. She pulled out a spare hair tie and tied her hair down extra tight. She didn't need it catching fire. She had shows to do still.

"I'm gonna go ahead and say I'm pretty sure you shouldn't drive when you're ten," Aileen said, "But then again I always did prefer a girl who bent the rules." At some point she was really going to have to start taking tonight seriously, just....not right now. But she seriously couldn't imagine driving at that age. She remembered being given one driving lesson at the age of fifteen, and the person teaching her had decided she'd be better off just letting others drive her around. She'd had another couple of goes since then, but if anything they seemed worse. Possibly her first choice of teacher made her unwilling to actually learn. Possibly. But she didn't want to swell on something like that, not now. Not when she was with a pretty, flirty girl for the night. Not when she had crimes to fight and a night to enjoy.
"Well there are benefits to being a celebrity," Aileen said, "Interviews, money, protection, getting to model pretty bikinis for magazines." She thought for a second, "Plus I can summon the Avengers in about a second and Ginnie provides me with security." At first, she had felt somewhat uneasy being a public superhero, but then it had become known that her teammates and especially Ginnie were looking out for her, and she'd felt a lot more secure. A lot less paranoid.
Aileen continued running, seeing the smoke up ahead as well. Looked like they were dealing with arson. How fun. "I hope to find that out myself later," She told Dinah, putting as much suggestiveness into her voice as we could, "Just exactly what you do." She did know that in all actuality, sleeping with another superhero was a bad idea, but a bit of harmless flirting was fine.
