Melody was aware that her order was a somewhat lacklustre one, but it was probably what Josie would have wanted her to get. And if Maximus didn't like that, well, he could get fucked. She was tensed for a second before he ordered, but then he said it, two scoops of chocolate in a cone, and she relaxed. Two scoops was probably a good thing to get. His order sounded interesting, but not for her.
Melody was surprised when Maximus laid money on the counter. Normally when she and Josie went out for things, especially if they went out in costume, they tended to shoot up the place, or just use their intimidation factor. They didn't pay for things like meals or ice cream, often. Sometimes they did, but she hadn't expected Maximus to. She was terrible at reading people, Josie was always telling her that, but she hadn't taken him as the type to pay for something when he didn't have to.
"Do they know who you are?" She asked him curiously. She'd thought she'd recognised him, but the vast majority of the terrified looks seemed to be directed at her. The benefits of a reputation around Gotham, she supposed. Good service, but she couldn't go anywhere without being recognised. "So I'm Crazo the Clown?" She asked, and pulled a convincingly insane face. Not like she had to reach very far for that. She then giggled, deepening it to make it sound genuinely crazy. "How did you teach them a lesson?" She asked Max, tilting her head curiously.
She looked down at his nails as they slowly bored a hole in the surface, and was about to ask him about it when her ice cream was handed to her. She took it and licked at it dubiously, looking at him. She wasn't sure Josie would like some guy buying her ice cream. She'd blame it on Melody. "This is a meeting?" Melody asked as she followed him to the table and sat opposite him, still worried Josie would show up and tell her how stupid she was for talking to this guy. And it'd all be her fault.

He laughed lightly as Melody asked if they knew him. Well they technically did know him, in both forms. They likely were well aware of Max Regem and were on FriendLink. They were also likely aware of the Royal Flush Gang and knew of him as the King of Hearts. However, should they recognize him would prove bad for them. He kept all of his lives separate. Only a select few were well aware of all aspects of him. Of course the only one he truly allowed that close to him was Isabella. Sure a few accused him of seeing her as more than a friend and more than an assistant. Of course the weren't too far off really. He had issues denying that though. Partially he didn't want to deny it. She was his Queen in name and soon in role. It was only a matter of time.
"No Melody, they don't know me. Or if they do know me they're smart to ignore it and pretend they don't. If I wanted to make myself known I would."
He would leave this ice cream shop in ruins. Those left alive, should he decide to do so, would be maimed and in terrible pain. However leaving them alive was rarely an option. Only if he wanted to send a message to someone else would he do so. He smiled when asked about teaching them a lesson, sitting down at the table.
"Oh teaching them a lesson was so much fun. You see they had gotten it in their head that maybe they didn't need to take orders from me. The last thing I wanted was others getting the same idea. So I was forced to make an example. Show the rest of my people what thinking for themselves got you. I slowly removed his body parts, one at a time. First fingers and toes, then nose, eyes, tongue, limbs. Eventually he was just a torso but with perfect pristine ears. That way he could hear the sounds of disgust when people saw him. Of course he managed to swallow enough of some chain to choke and die. Oh well."
He said with a shrug before licking his ice cream. He looked at her with a smile. She didn't seem to fully comprehend what was happening but was ok with that. It would allow him to fully take control of the conversation and steer it in a direction he wanted. She was friends with Izzy and that would prove much more useful later on.
"Yes, meeting seems an acceptable term for this."

Melody frowned slightly as Maximus laughed. Had she said something funny? Was there some joke she was missing? Josie was always saying that Melody wasn't funny, that she ruined jokes, so honestly, she wouldn't be all that surprised if there was something absolutely hilarious and she'd missed it. Maximus was probably thinking about how weird she was for not getting the joke. She kept frowning, but tried to ignore it. "So...they might know you?" Melody asked, trying to keep up. It wasn't like she was known for not getting lost. You just had to ask Josie to know that.
Melody still wasn't really sure why they were at the ice cream shop. Sure, it was nice to get a cone, but she didn't think that they were just here for a treat, just like she didn't believe he just happened to run into her. Still, she couldn't see why he'd lie about it. What was the point in luring her somewhere? It wasn't like she was important to anything. Josie might care, she really hoped Josie would care, but apart from that, it wasn't like taking her captive would accomplish much.
"That sounds like a fun way to teach them a lesson," Melody said, forgetting her glum earlier thoughts and grinning as she thought about it. Sure, it sounded disgusting, but how much fun it'd be to do that to somebody. Well, it sounded like something Josie would do anyway. Melody preferred just hurting people to mutilating them. "It's a shame he died, though," She almost sighed. She didn't like killing people. Apart from anything else, it shorted her fun.
"What are we meeting about?" She asked in confusion, tilting her head. Why on earth would someone like that want to meet with her?

He simply shrugged in response to her question. Yes, they might know him, if they got a good look at him. However he had his hood pulled over his face putting him in enough shadow to keep him hidden. The last thing he wanted known was Max Regem associated with Harley Quinn. He could see the stocks dropping and all the other inquiries if that got out. But the guy behind the counter seemed to understand exactly what Max wanted and had no actual intentions of calling the police or anyone else. WHich is good, he had no real desire to slaughter his friends and family. They were probably nice people, and on FriendLink which was more important.
He calmly ate his ice cream, laughing lightly. So she also had a sense of violence and vengeance. It was refreshing to find someone else that liked it. Sure Izzy seemed mostly on board with his choices but even he knew she couldn't always be on board with it. But she also didn't speak up against him so he enjoyed that aspect of her. Well that and several other things.
"As for what we're meeting about, nothing too major. Just getting to know each other. Ya know, friend of a friend trying to get along. Besides I don't intend on leaving Izzy anytime soon so it's only a matter of time before we're all hanging out together again."
He said with a light laugh before going back to his ice cream.
"So, when you're not causing general mayhem what do you like to do for fun?"
He did want to get to know Melody. She was Izzy's best friend so Max had no choice but to get to know her and try and make friends. Plus having a better in with the Joker would be truly helpful in terms of eventually taking over. He didn't like the idea of being just a minion, it just wasn't his style. But he'd play along until he was ready to strike.

The people working at the ice cream shop didn't seem to recognise Max. Or, at the very least, they were doing a good job of pretending not to. So apparently he was some kind of villain with metal teeth who knew about her, and yet apparently nobody knew who he was. It was strange. "Do you have any other names?" She asked suddenly, not even knowing herself where that question had come from. It had just felt like the right thing to ask, given what she'd been thinking about.
She laughed uncertainly along with him when he did. She knew that Josie liked it when she laughed at jokes, so she figured most people would prefer it if she did, and she wasn't looking to piss off this Max, not anymore. "Do we need a meeting for that?" She asked. She'd never been one for formal situations, and this "meeting", despite the fact that she was in her faintly singed Harley Quinn gear and they were eating ice cream cones, felt just a little too formal when they called it that. Still, it made sense to want to get to know her. They were apparently both pretty important to Izzy, and she didn't mind meeting up with him for that. "Are you and Izzy...?" She asked with interest. She was probably wrong, and she was definitely bad at reading people, but the way he spoke kind of implied something more. She'd have just hoped that Izzy would tell her about something like that, especially as she now knew about Josie.
"Um...." Melody had to think about both his question and her answer, "I don't cause that much mayhem, do I?" It wasn't like she was very effective, clearly. Maybe she'd get some more praise from Josie if she was. "I just...I normally just hang out with....people." She almost said her Joker, but she didn't feel like that was a good idea for some reason. "What do you do?"

He simply smiled a big smile when she asked if he had any other names. He was a man of many names, any way to keep people off his trail. Asking if he had other names was almost like asking the same question to Mystique. Ok, so maybe that was an exaggeration, especially since she was much older and a shape shifter. But in the end he still liked keeping people off of his tail.
"Maximus is the only name that matters right now. But to answer your question, yes, I do have other names. Some of those names you'd likely recognize. But, I enjoy keeping my personas separate."
After all the last thing he needed was for someone to begin linking all the names to one specific person. That would cause them to dig much deeper into him and they'd find things he didn't want found just yet. Yes he was half way through preparing for his reveal, but he wasn't where he'd like to be. If anything he was almost looking forward to it. He could scrap the persona of Max Regem, hipster entrepreneur. He was a weak idiot who was useless except for obtaining money. When she asked if he and Izzy were dating he couldn't help but smile lightly.
"No, we are not dating or intimate in any other way. Although that may be more my fault than anything else. However that is likely to not stay the same way for long. You see I do very much like Izzy and enjoy spending time with her. But I also figured getting good with her friends was a nice start."
He said with a smile. As she mentioned that she didn't really cause that much mayhem he shook his head. Especially since Harley Quinns were known for their ability to cause mayhem. Sure it was an odd question for a conversation, hut he didn't care. He was looking forward to learning more about her.
"Well what I do varies day to day. But I don't do much that interesting. Work on a few projects here and there, spend time with Izzy and a few other acquaintances, nothing too interesting."
Ok, so that was a lie. He did a lot of interesting things as the King of Hearts. But the less she knew of that the better. She had no current uses to him other than helping him get closer to Izzy.
"I mean clearly you have a much more interesting life."
He said, gesturing to her singed outfit.

Melody returned his smile somewhat uncertainly as he grinned at her after she asked that question, and she got the impression there was something he wasn't telling her. "I guess Harley Quinn is the only name that matters..." She said, again somewhat unsurely in response to that. Well, she imagined he had one of those secret identity things, especially if he thought she'd know who he was. Still, that just made her want to find out more. "So I can't know who else you are?" She sounded quite disappointed there.
"Oh," She said as Maximus told her that he wasn't dating Izzy or anything. She'd thought.... Well, she'd kinda thought there was something again. Josie was probably right, she was just bad with people. Didn't get them or something like that. So she was kinda disappointed. But she was also happy, because she'd been hoping that Izzy would have told her if she was seeing somebody. And she'd have been surprised if Izzy was seeing a guy, but she wouldn't put it beyond her. "Do you want to date her?" Melody asked with interest. Maybe she could catch up on all the gossip and the things she'd done back when she was a normal girl, before Josie had made her life a lot better. Some of the things she missed. "I don't meet many of Izzy's friends," she said, somewhat to herself.
"I mean, you walk around with....teeth," She said as he said he didn't do much, "You gotta do something. You can't just be an ordinary guy with teeth like that. And you mentioned that guy you dismembered slowly." She was just basically repeating back everything he'd told her. She looked down at her outfit and blushed slightly, not because of what he could see, which due to the burning was probably quite a lot, but because she'd been caught in her lie. "It was an accident." She said.

He smiled lightly as he ate his ice cream. So she wanted to know who he was, that's adorable. Of course he also had no desire to reveal anything about him just yet. He was content just being Maximus, friend of Izzy. Of course he'd like to be more than friends with her, but that was for another time. She was indeed curious, he liked that about her. If she had a question she simply asked it, to hell with the reprocussions. He liked that in a person, just so long as she still followed orders. She would make an excellent 10, but a lot would need to happen first. Namely Joker would need to be killed off.
"Oh I'm sure eventually you'll learn. But like I said, for now Maximus is the only name you need to know."
He said with a smile. He knew eventually it'd get out who he was, but for the time he wanted to keep every separate. Well aside from those in his inner circle, they knew most of what he did and his personas. He actually liked keeping it to a minimum. The fewer people who knew the easier it was to function in regular situations.
"I do plan on dating her soon enough. I simply needed to get a few things in my life figured out first. Well that and make sure she reciprocates the feelings. Otherwise it'll get...messy."
Sure he'd likely end up killing her if she shot him down. It wouldn't be ideal and would get messy. But he didn't like being told no, it tended to make things more complicated than they had to be.
"Well, I do do things but....well that's a story for another time. Of course you could also say I have a....temper."
He said with a laugh before going back to his ice cream.
"Ah yes, an accident. Hate when those happen. They have a tendency to pop up especially when you're having fun. Then next thing you know there's 6 dead cops and everyone yelling."
He said shaking his head. He had run into a few issues before in regards to things going wrong and snowballing. Usually he was better at anticipating them, but every now and then something happened he couldn't control.

Once again, Melody found herself smiling uncertainly back at Maximus as he smiled at something she'd said. Was she being funny without realising? It might make Josie happy if she was. Her Joker had always wanted a funny Harley. "I will?" She asked, confused, "If I'm going to know, how come you can't just tell me now?" She'd happily tell him her name if he shared. She just didn't get why she'd get to know it eventually but she couldn't know it now. It just didn't make sense. She was still keeping the uncertain smile on her face.
"You might ask Izzy out?" Melody asked, her expression turning a hell of a lot more interested, but also slightly like they were twelve or something. Still, she'd be surprised if Izzy was dating a guy, what with....well...everything. "And good luck with that." She paused, "Messy....how?" She didn't like the sound of that. That wasn't a threat, was it? As she definitely didn't like people threatening Izzy. Almost without thinking, the hand that wasn't holding ice cream travelled to a holster. "You're sure I can't hear a story?" She asked, looking interested. Sure, the dismembering one had been disgusting, but she was still curious about what other things he'd done. Still, his "....temper" sounded ominous.
She blushed again faintly as he mocked her accident. "There was a guy with a flamethrower," She mumbled, "I wanted it. And then the cops showed up." So she'd ended up telling a story. Or as close as she got to it

"Paitence my bi-colored friend, patience. As I said, all in due time. No more questions about it."
She was beginning to get very adamant about his other names and aliases. That was something that he could not approve of. He had stated that she would need to wait and that is what would happen. That was also the last time he would tell her to stop questioning. The next time he'd likely swing. He was taught to be a gentleman first and all about chivalry. But he was also taught that chivalry only went so far. Eventually one needed to reestablish dominance. Sure he wouldn't hurt her badly or anything, just a light smack, at first.
"Well really it's more of a when, not might. I have no intention of letting go of her."
He said with a smile. He liked the idea of Izzy always being by his side. Knowing she was always there when he could count on her. Having one constant ally who would follow him with no questions was all he would need, that much he knew.
"And what exactly do you mean by 'Good luck with that'?"
He asked through narrowed eyes. He recognized that tone. It was a tone his father had said many times growing up when Maximus would brag about his plans. Now he was concerned. Had he misread Izzy's intentions and feelings? It wasn't completely out of the realm of possibility. He may be smart but when it came to finer aspects of human behavior he was truly terrible.
"So Harley Quinn wants to hear a story? Fair enough."
He said taking a bite of his ice cream and leaning back.
"Alright so here we go. I wanted to use a name that was currently being used. No more questions about them, again. Anyways I approached him properly, going through the right channels and trying to be peaceful about it. I asked to use the name, even suggested he could work under me till he was financially compensated and then move on. Do you know what he did? He told me no."
He said shaking his head and laughing lightly. He took another bite of his ice cream and laughed lightly.
"So I gave him one last chance, and again he told me no. He said I could do whatever I wanted to him he wasn't going to give up the title. So you know what I did? I left him alone. Made it easy at first. He likely tried brushing them off as random mishaps. His favorite coffee shop had a 'gas leak' and blew up. His friend's business' delivery truck brakes failed and he sailed off a pier. Then they began hitting close to home. Neighbors dying, then I moved onto family. In only a week his entire extended and immediate family was dead. Well except his daughter. I felt her alive just victimized and missing some limbs. Mostly because she was kept by his side as a constant reminder of the mistake he'd made. I then made another offer, a less generous offer. The title or more of the same. He agreed so I broke his legs and took the title. Good times, good times."
He said with a nice memory. It was fun and he hadn't really terrorized anyone that strongly since. He hoped it wouldn't come up again but he also knew that wasn't exactly out of the question. Eventually someone would prove too difficult and they'd need to be taught a lesson. Hell for all he knew it could be Izzy and soon enough Melody would be skinned and in pieces.
"I actually understand that. Someone had something, you wanted it so you tried to take it. Been there many a time. So, did you get it?"

Melody squirmed nervously in her seat as Maximus told her not to ask anymore questions. She hated it when she was told not to ask something that she really really wanted to know. It happened all the time with Josie, but that didn't make it any easier when it happened. Now all she could think about was what he wasn't telling her, and it was going to drive her crazy. She opened her mouth to ask again, but she got the feeling Maximus wouldn't like that, and she didn't want to go around pissing off Izzy's friends. So she kept quiet, as much as it needled at her. Her leg started to jiggle under the table to try and compensate for the urge.
She didn't like the way he talked about Izzy. He talked about her like he owned her, like he had some sort of hold over her, and Melody definitely didn't like that. "What if she wants you to let go of her?" Melody asked, and there was the slightest hint of a challenge in her tone. She wanted to see what this guy would be like with Izzy if he didn't think he could get in her pants. She didn't care for most people, but she definitely cared for her Poison Ivy, and she wasn't about to let some guy, no matter how nice he was and how metal his mouth was, push her around.
But then she almost forgot about that as Maximus started to tell his story, and she started to listen with rapt interest. She leant her hands on her fists as she listened. It was brutal, but it was also enthralling. "That's horrible!" She said, but she didn't sound judgemental. Interested, perhaps. "So you tore apart his life just because he had a title?" She giggled, but it was a bit forced. It was excessive, and she didn't like what he'd done to his daughter. Some of those people surely didn't deserve it and it didn't sound like Maximus had to or was even doing it for fun.
"I....think I got it?" She said, trying to remember back to what had happened. So much had taken place that she'd basically forgotten the technical series of events. "But then things blew up."

She brought up a good point. If Izzy wanted to leave the Royal Flush Gang would he accept it and let her go? She was his right hand and his assistant. Not only that but she was also the only one he actually trusted. As it stands now he trusted absolutely no one. Izzy was the only one who actually knew everything. His father, his childhood, the whole thing. Just as she trusted him with everything. He knew his father would chastise him for divulging so much and having feelings for an employee. But he wasn't his father. He was his own man and he was happy.
"Well my primary goal is to ensure she doesn't want to leave and she's happy. However if she did want to leave then while I may talk a big game I'd probably let her go. Just so long as she doesn't get gabby. I mean she does know a lot."
He said with a shrug. He knew it'd crush him to have to silence her. But, if need be he'd do exactly what had to be done to ensure people didn't learn so much about him. He had a lot of secrets he wanted to ensure stayed secret. So after a brief warning he'd likely have to silence her for good.
"No, no. I didn't just do it because he had a title and I didn't. No, instead he wouldn't give up the title he was embarrassing. I offered him a lot of money for the title and no, he had to keep it. I mean it's not like I suddenly did it. He had ample warning. Actually the daughter impressed me. She was rebellious the whole time."
He said with a laugh. He still remembered torturing her. The way she yelled at him and spit at him the whole time. It was impressive. He'd even contemplated outfitting her with some bionic limbs and making her his 10. Of course he'd need to win her over first. Not impossible but very difficult.
"Explosions always cause distractions and make things difficult. But as long as you kinda got it a victory is a victory."

Melody noticed that Maximus was quiet for a while after she asked him about what he'd do if Izzy didn't want him, and that made her wary. Izzy had drilled it into her time and time again that there was only one answer a guy should give when asked that. And then he answered, and she started to relax, until she got to the last bit. "I don't like people threatening my friends," She said, and there was a bit of steel in her usually quite carefree voice. If he had something like that again, she'd jump over this table right now and hit him. "I don't care how 'gabby' she gets, you let her go, mister." She doubted he'd like being told that. "But at least you're trying to make sure she's happy."
Melody wasn't sure how a fight with this guy would go. Presumably he had to be awesome if Izzy worked for him and Josie invited him to the Injustice League party, but still, she couldn't see anything dangerous other than the teeth, and she was still armed. She could swing the hammer pretty damn hard. "So you ruined his life because you were embarrassed?" She asked, and she sounded confused. Nowadays when she was embarrassed, it was because she was stupid or she did yet another thing wrong and Josie told her off. And then the guilt and pain usually overpowered any embarrassment. "I mean, I guess hurting them all sounds fun," She said, squirming slightly in her seat at the thought, "But still, I don't think you had to do that to the daughter. Even if she was badass." For some reason Melody felt like she liked this daughter a lot. "Was the leg breaking just for fun?" She asked. That did sound fun.
"The explosion was an accident. I got away with like, 70% of my costume though, and all of my skin and hair, so I think that was a win."

He smiled as she threatened him for threatening Izzy. Of course hurting her would be incredibly difficult for him, but she knew a lot about him. Especially in regards to his weaknesses. Of course he'd likely never admit this to anyone but she was his biggest weakness. He would do anything for her and destroy anyone who tried to bring her harm. Of course he also knew that meant he may be the one, so it would likely get difficult.
"Well good, I'm glad to see she has other people looking out for her. But I have a feeling that if she finds out we're watching over her we'll both end up food for one of her plants."
He said with a laugh. He also had a feeling it was true. She was a strong, independent woman, exactly what he loved liked about her. He didn't need to babysit her and he didn't need to worry about her only going after his fortune and power. She was powerful on her own and if anything it was more of a partnership than employment.
"Yes, I do try and keep her happy. Mostly because she does her best to keep me happy, all I care about."
He said with a smile. He did like ensuring that she was happy though. Not only because when she was happy he didn't have to worry about trees attacking him. He just enjoyed seeing her happy.
"Yes, the leg breaking was purely for fun and because he annoyed me. Was I hard on the daughter? Perhaps. I feel safe saying if I ever die my blood will likely be on her blade."
He said with a smile. He knew eventually he'd die, some time down the road. He didn't know when but also knew that eventually it'd happen. He just hoped it was much further down the road than he'd earned.
"If I had a nickel for every time I lost clothing to an explosion I would actually have some good money. But instead here I am, just with clothes needing repair."
He said giving a laugh. He was mostly trying to make the tone of the conversation not so heavy.
"I suppose just be grateful it's not too cold of a night."

Melody narrowed his eyes as he smiled at her threat. Like he found her deadly serious warning about hurting her best friend funny. Men really were pigs. Her hand trailed just slightly to Beast, so the sawn-off shotgun at her hip. He wouldn't be smiling so much if she shot his mouth open. Or the back of his head. "You are not going to hurt her," She told him, "And she's been looking out for me for years. I'm sure she wouldn't mind me returning the favour." She didn't like him making guesses about her relationship to Izzy either. He might know her well, but she'd known her for years, and she felt like she knew her more than he did.
She was practically quivering with rage as he carried on speaking, but she didn't feel quite as likely to empty both barrels into his skull. Quite. If he said something else like that about her, well, she'd hit him and not stop hitting until she had a lump of mush with brown hair and a white shirt in front of her. It was almost a funny mental image. But still, now that he wasn't talking about Izzy, she felt like she could go back to laughing and nodding at what he said. He did seem nice, even if he was confusing and closer to Izzy than she liked. "You keep it that way mister, because she better be happy," But if Izzy wasn't happy, Melody would probably just break some of his weird metal fangs and deliver him muzzled to her friend. Another funny mental image.
"Poor daughter," She said with a shrug. She didn't care as much about the guy. It wasn't like she'd never broken somebody's legs for the fun of it. But still, what he'd done to the girl almost made her feel sad inside, not like laughing. Almost. "I only have one corset," She told him with a pout, "And then my stealth suit!" The same stealth suit that she hadn't shown to anybody including Josie, and that may possibly have been just her old gymnastics leotard. "Hm?" She asked when he mentioned it not being a cold night, and looked down again, "Oh, yeah, that'd be....yeah that'd be chilly." So she occasionally said British things, she blamed her family.
