Hero/New York/Twenty Five/Incredibly Single/Avengers
The daughter of the late Clint Barton and his successor as Hawkeye, Aileen's something of an unusual superhero. Fighting crime out of a mixture of boredom and a desire to help people, she goes up against robots, mutants, aliens and god knows what other threats with nothing but a bow and some modified arrows. The fact that she tends to do it with a demigod, a super-soldier or a walking artillery platform does tend to add to this. She was trained in superheroics by her dad from a young age, and took up his mantle long after his death. She has no secret identity, instead it's a widely known fact that Hawkeye is in fact Aileen Barton, which makes her both approachable and slightly less secure. She is the fourth member of the Avengers and the newest, a position that she got largely because of the recommendation from her best friend and team leader Ginnie Stark. She's easily the weakest of the team, lacking the powers or tech the others have, but through determination and skills the others lack, she has managed to carve out her own place within the team. She also has her own solo crimefighting career, patrolling the streets of New York City. She also loves new experiences and making friends, and so is a sociable and somewhat daring person. She's also a horrendous flirt, chatting up basically anything she can.
In terms of plotting, Aileen can do pretty much anything. She's very easy to make friends with, either on a professional or personal level, and is usually pretty up for the chance to work with other heroes. She tends to get on well with heroes, civilians and neutral people, but if a villain is especially charming or a good liar, she could be fooled, not being the most careful of superheroes. In a thread she can be just at a bar, trying out some fun activity like paintball or skydiving, out on patrol or busting a crime, there's really lots to choose from. She ends up very dedicated to her friends, to the point where she is more than willing to kill or risk death for them, but on the flipside she usually ends up highly worried and protective, and loses any objectivity when her friends are involved. She's also somewhat rash and impulsive, which can make her hard to put up with for some people. She can easily make enemies with most villains or especially criminal neutrals, but an especially effective way to make enemies with her is to go after her or her friends. Especially her friends. In terms of romance, as mentioned earlier, she has a habit of flirting with basically everybody she talks to and often getting caught up, but she is interested in a relationship and monogamy and the like.
Relationships:
Virginia "Ginnie" Stark - Without a doubt Aileen's best friend and the person who means the most to her, Aileen and Ginnie are often referred to as "gal pals" by the media. They met when Ginnie inadvertently arrested her, thinking she was a criminal, and, after realising her mistake, took Aileen out for dinner to apologise. Since then, they've been firm friends, fighting crime and spending their time together, and recently both been members of the Avengers. They actually have very little in common, and would probably annoy each other greatly if they weren't friends, but they somehow manage to make it work and appreciate each other's differences as cute, or at the very least tolerable.
@thorson - Another close friend and Avengers teammate of hers, Aileen and T'Shan have bonded over their mutual enjoyment of not taking things too seriously, good drink, and each other's company. There's something of an on-going flirtation between them, and one that Aileen wouldn't mind at all taking further. As well as liking T'Shan, she also trusts him to have her back, whether it's in battle or in an argument, and hopes he knows that she'd have his unless it was against somebody she was especially close with. The other Avengers occasionally get tired of their constant flirting and joking during fights, but it's mostly their way of keeping cool and calm.
James Barnes Jr - Her third teammate, and most definitely the one she took the longest warming up to, Aileen still views James as a somewhat foreboding and mysterious figure, but she's also come to appreciate the other side of him, the one that likes pie and flirting and makes jokes with his little sister. He also at first annoyed her with his attitudes towards Ginnie, but recently she has definitely warmed up to him, and is now a dedicated Iron America shipper (albeit because James and T'Shan didn't seem like they were secretly in love). She knows she can also count on James, and views him as a good friend and teammate.
@cain - A hero she doesn't like nearly so much. Aileen tends to be wary around Bats anyway when they're in her city, but she took a special dislike to Mason for his behaviour when she met him, being rude and abrupt. While she appreciate he can be good help, she would much prefer it if next time, one of his relatives came instead to help her save the day.
Dinah Grayson - One of the relatives she very much prefers, Aileen definitely thinks of Dinah as a friend. She likes the other girl's casual excitement for things, among a few other things. While she wouldn't be up for getting the Dinah Grayson treatment day after day, Aileen definitely knows that she can call the girl to help her when she needs it, and to give her an interesting night. And she'd probably go to her for superhero help as well.
@actualwizard666 - If Aileen's honest, she views him more as a kid who's trying to play at hero, albeit one with some pretty cool powers. She wouldn't be opposed to working with him again, but she'd mainly try and keep him out of danger. Also pretty sure he's got a puppy crush on her.
