Adam stretched his hands up and above his head as he wandered up the path to the Jean Grey School, giving the impressive architecture another look as he reached a jogging pace. The school was enormous (or seemed that way to him), but what did he expect? It housed a superhero team and all of their equipment... Adam himself, was one more or less normal sized human... currently with a rucksack hoisted upon his back as he tried to make pace.
The students milling around the property gave him barely a thought. It could have been the campus of any number of schools in the world. Especially on a bright, sunny day like this. Children running, teenagers... angsting? Well, a few of them probably were. But, it was warm. It was sunny, everyone seemed in high spirits...
Including Adam himself as he fished his phone from his pocket and jabbed at the screen, sending out a text to a particular recipient.
Surprise! I managed to get here early. He shot off the text to Mari quickly enough, recalling the particular chain of decisions that had lead him to this place. Mostly because it wasn't, exactly, a long story. With the major Judo competitions having finished, at least for the moment, the poor would-be superhero (and Olympian) was on the search for new challenges... and to find new ways to keep up with his teammates on the Titans. And recalled his mother almost casually pointing out the story of Masutatsu Oyama who had vanished into the woods... or mountains... some sort of wilderness for six months to practice his karate in peace.
Returning only at the end of those months to win a national competition.
It was exactly the kind of story that hit all of the youth's major points: It had martial arts, an awesome protagonist that he could imitate and it was a relatively low-cost idea to boot!
The biggest problem had been his lack of any appreciable knowledge of surviving outside of urban areas. Hunting, fire making... anything more complicated than the most basic of fishing was beyond him.
...But, he knew a girl who's whole power set seemed developed around wilderness survival. And she'd been kind enough to agree to come with him!
"...They need a buzzer system." Adam realized as he slipped the rucksack from his shoulders just inside of the entrance of the school, settling it down to examine the contents again and make sure he had everything while he waited for Mari's arrival.
(Well, a long overdue plot and why are my intros always awful!?)
