Edward wasn't really fond of flying. He didn't like any situations where he wasn't in control, where he'd be unable to stop things from happening if something went wrong. Sure, he'd stand a better chance of surviving than anyone else on that flight, but that didn't mean he enjoyed it. So he was happy to be back on flat, stable, real ground that wasn't hundreds of thousands of feet up in the sky. On the way out to Celeste's place, she'd been there to greet him when he got off the plane and teleport him to where he needed to go. In New York, he got off the plane to an empty terminal and had to take a taxi back to Jean Grey's. Boy was he glad to be back.
But actually, on some level, he was. After what had happened, after learning May was really an evil duplicate the whole time who wanted to drag him back with her, and then nearly killed him and Kayleigh, he'd needed to get away for a bit. He'd needed to go somewhere where he hadn't almost died, where he hadn't spent weeks with some imposter. And Celeste had offered him a room at hers for a couple of weeks, and he'd gladly taken it. It'd been fun, in its own way, and just getting away had been a relief. But he wanted to see Kayleigh again. He wanted to see Cassie and Gabriel. Hell, by this point, he wouldn't mind seeing Leif. But he also wanted to see May. He shouldn't have left her Not on her own for that long. So now he was going to make it up to her. Sure, he was back in New York, but he wasn't going back to school.
Still, he knew that's where she'd be. It was during a weekday, so she was working. Well, probably. Maybe. He got the cab to Jean Grey's, and then he stepped outside, hauling his suitcase with him. He used the last of his money to pay the driver, and then stepped back into the school he'd left two and half weeks ago. The receptionist looked at him with mild surprise, and Edward just shrugged, and asked where he'd find his aunt. Cousin. Niece. Whatever she was. The receptionist couldn't tell him, which gave him a pretty good clue.
As he walked towards the training room, he could pick out the sounds of fists hitting a bag. Or fists hitting something. Feet and elbows too, maybe. Definitely something hitting something. He pushed open the door, dropped his bag next to it, and then stood with his legs shoulder width apart as he looked at the back of @spidergirl. For all he knew, she was going to punch him or hug him, and he wanted to be prepared either way. "Hey," He said, even though she'd have heard him coming, "I'm back."

The last couple of weeks had been terrible for May. She'd spent a good chunk of them drunk and in the training room. She was offering intense combat courses to anyone who wanted to learn how to better fight. There'd been a lot of people either terrified ever since her duplicate did what she did and even more who wanted to learn how to fight. Of course she saw the way they looked at her. Judging her and blaming her. Of course that might be more of in her head than anything. She blamed herself for the damage that had been done. Kayleigh and Ed were nearly killed, a teacher and a student were killed and others had been harmed. All because May hadn't been strong enough and had been sucker punched.
She was training alone, working on a bag. It was simple really. Just a brief work out, well brief for her. For most it was likely to be deemed an intense work out. She didn't care though, it helped her take her mind off what had happened. It also helped her forget that Ed had pretty much abandoned her and couldn't look at her. Of course he'd learned in one fell swoop that she was Spider-Girl and seen her nearly covered in blood, technically her own but she'd pretty much ripped all of the other May's organs out. Then she heard the door open and picked up on the scent right away.
"About time Pup."
She said before rushing over and hugging him. Yes she was sweaty and yes she was just wearing a pair of shorts, boots and a workout bra, but she didn't care. She then let go of him and stepped back smiling.
"How was your flight? Are you hungry? Did you just get back? Did you want to rest? How was England?"
She was rambling and gave an apologetic smile before crossing her arms.
"Sorry Pup."

Edward hadn't really known what sort of reaction to expect when he'd shown up in the training room. He hadn't known whether May would be angry, whether she'd be upset, whether she'd have just straight up punched him. The "about time" was about par for the course really. What he hadn't really been expecting was for his relative to throw herself at him in all her sweaty, basically underwear-clad glory and hug him. He was frozen for a moment, both from surprise and his typical squeamishness around family, but after a couple of seconds he returned the hug, gently patting her back over the material of her sports bra. Wow, she really had missed him, hadn't she?
Not that he was entirely surprised by that. They hadn't exactly parted in the best circumstances, and he couldn't know for certain, but he was pretty sure she hadn't had a fantastic couple of weeks. Being with Celeste had certainly helped take his mind off things, even if she'd worked him pretty hard one morning, but he'd still had a rough time of it. Especially when he tried sleeping. For May, it had probably been much worse, and she hadn't had anyone. He felt a little bad about that, but he was pretty sure it wouldn't have helped if he'd been there and flinched every time she made a sudden movement.
Edward laughed slightly as she let go of him and then started a sudden hail of questions. She wasn't exactly laconic, usually, and she'd been known to fire off taunts about his training in a rather rapid-fire fashion, but the question rush was slightly unexpected, and he had to blink once or twice to process it, and then decided which one to answer first. "Not England," He corrected her gently. If it'd been England he'd probably have had to go and visit his mother. And he wasn't sure how legally he was even allowed back in the country just yet. "Bloodstone Curios is up in Boston. And I thought the New York accent was bad," Thank god Celeste used an English accent most of the time. "I slept on the plane, I don't need to rest. And I'm kinda hungry." He left out having to get his own cab from the airport.
He smiled back at her as she apologised. Was that her first time ever apologising to him? He didn't care, he was glad to see her. And now it was time to broach his idea. "So I booked three weeks off school," He said casually. Well, booked was a euphemistic word. He'd told various teachers that he'd been leaving, and the responses varied from mild disappointment but understanding, to relief that maybe the cost of replacing windows would go down for a bit. "And I've still got a week of that. Plus I'm not sure they've repaired my room yet. So....there's a spare room at yours, right?" He wasn't sure if Lydia would still be using it. "I could just skype Kayleigh and let her know I'll be gone a bit longer." Skype was definitely the safer option for that.

Well that explained the smell. He didn't smell like England. Of course there was the massive smell of all those bodies being crammed on a plane. She was impressed that he handled it. She still had issues with the Blackbird and the X-Jet, an old jet used by Task Force X. Although part of it might've been her inner-ear and the motion as well. Either way she certainly did her best to avoid commercial flights. If she did she usually drugged herself up pretty good. Made it easier to cope with the smells.
"I know exactly where we should go for lunch Pup."
She said with a smile.
"Let me just shower, and of course I have a room available for you. Lydia doesn't want her doppelgangers things anyways. I'm donating most of them. But we can go over all that nonsense later."
She said before grabbing a towel and throwing it around her neck. She grabbed her water bottle and quickly disappeared into the shower area. In what couldn't have been more then 10 minutes she came out. Now she was dressed in a Sailor Jupiter sleeveless T-shirt that showed off part of her mid-riff and a pair of skinny tattered black jeans and combat boots. She threw a baggy leather jacket on that may have belonged to her grandfather, or an Ex, she wasn't honestly sure, she had a type and issues. She threw a backpack over her shoulder and headed towards the door where Ed was.
"This place may not be the best but their pastas are incredible."
She said stepping into the elevator and pressing a button for the garage.

It was good that they still had stuff to talk about, that they were still happy to see each other and smiling and talking. Edward was pretty sure the awkwardness would come later. The sort of awkwardness that came with kidnapping and near-death experiences and flying half the country to get away from everything. Even the awkwardness that came with saving somebody's life. Not to mention finding out a whole lot of stuff. He'd found out that May was Spidergirl, a fact she'd kept pretty well-hidden. It explained a few things. He'd also found out just how easily May could kill him if she really wanted. Him and Kayleigh knew each other's fighting styles like their own, and they had a natural flow of teamwork, and that was without the powers, and yet May had ended the fight in maybe fifteen seconds. There was awkwardness there as well. He'd always known May could have handed his own arse to him any day, but he'd hoped it wouldn't be quite so easy for her.
He was just lucky he didn't scar, or he'd have a shiner from where Evil May, as he'd grown to calling her, had split him practically from crotch to throat, and he doubted that'd make him or May feel better about the whole situation. May's words brought him out of that train of thought before he went too far down it. "Well you're paying, so that's good," Besides never being one to turn down a free meal, he'd spent his last few quid getting a cab from the airport, so he was skint. Then she went into the shower and he spent ten minutes leaning against a wall, trying to avoid thinking about what had happened last time he'd been here.
Edward smirked slightly as May stepped out the shower. "I'm beginning to doubt you actually own an entire shirt," He commented snarkily as he fell into step beside her. He was wearing his pretty standard fair of a button-up shirt and dark jeans that had some give in them. He stepped into the elevator next to her and leant on the wall again. "Where are we going, then?" He asked.

"Well, of course I'm paying. I wouldn't offer to take you out and then make you pay. Well ok, I've done that to a few guys and girls but that was a whole other situation."
She said with a dismissive wave of her hand. She smiled lightly as he made the comment about her clothes. His observation was rather spot on. She didn't have a whole lot of clothes in tact. She liked the way it helped her move, plus her claws tended to make cuts and slices in her clothes. Hell she also had a tendency to get into fights. She wasn't known as the sanest or healthiest of individuals. Hell, she had willingly subjected herself to a brutal experiment in order to stop her own.
"I have a couple whole shirts and pants. But I like how they help me move. Makes it easier in a fight. And since it's not like I need to be concerned about protection, who cares."
She said with a laugh.
"Not to mention that when you got a body like this you show it off. It's for the sake of society really, I'm a hero."
She said before the elevator doors opened into the garage. She fumbled for her keys before causing her blue Thunderbird to beep, unlocking it. She climbed in and started it up, causing the engine to rumble to life. Once Edward was set she took off away from the Institute and heading towards the edge of the city. There a ferry would be waiting, as it usually was.
"Where we're going is...hard to explain. I just need you to trust me. I know that's asking a lot right now. Especially after...everything. But just trust me. I think you'll like it, or hope you will. I try to come here at least once a week."

"Well as long as it's your treat, I really hope you've got money to spare," Given the whole mutant thing, Edward had something of a legendary appetite. He had a lot of staying power, but he tended to burn more calories than other people did, and he had to replace those one way or another. He hadn't exactly done much in the last twenty-four hours that would cost too many calories, but he still felt like he could have a three-course meal and have room to spare. Oh well, he'd just have to eat big at the restaurant. Presumably May did as well, considering they had almost identical mutations. Not that either of them showed it. As she was showing off right now, May didn't have much in the way of body fat, and he didn't exactly look like a big eater.
Edward was pretty sure it was something to do with personal preference that resulted in May dressing the way he did. He had most of the same powers and the same tendency to get into fights that she did, and he always managed to wear an entire shirt or pair of trousers. Although he had to admit, his clothes got slashed to pieces more often than he liked to admit. Whether it was a mugger, Mari going feral or just May herself in a training session, he seemed to have a habit of getting cut. "So you're saying wearing either shorts of fifty percent of a t-shirt makes you a better fighter?" He mused, "No wonder..." He started to make a comment about Evil May handling him with ease, but then stopped short. He didn't want to go into that. May didn't need to think about it, and he didn't want to. It hurt enough to be torn apart without reliving it. "You're not the only one of us with a body," He pointed out, "Yet me and Mari...." He paused, "Yet I manage to keep mine a nice surprise for someone."
When May got into the car, Edward followed suit. He wasn't an expert on vehicles, but he could tell May had a nice ride, that was for sure. As she drove away, he thought about what she was asking him. "Where the hell are we going for lunch that I have to trust you?" He asked in confusion, but nodded, "Alright, I trust you. Let's go." But he clenched the fist by his knee nervously, jiggling his leg.

"You'd be surprised how much money I can make. Doing what I do pays well. Maybe one day I'll tell you what that is."
She said with a laugh. Of course she wasn't going to admit that she was part of HuRTs or Suicide Squad. Primarily because she wasn't allowed to talk about it. A few outsiders knew, like Danny. But that was primarily because she got hammered once and spilled everything. Over course if things got awkward they would likely recruit him, or kill him. She hoped they'd recruit him, she couldn't risk losing him. She also knew she would likely go rogue to keep him safe, and hopefuly get Rayne to help her. She felt like she could count on Ed if she had to. Sure, Ed may not be a fan of Danny but it was May needing help.
"If I told you where we were going you'd likely freak out. Well at least until we get there. I just want you to meet someone."
She said as the water came into view. Through the trees you could see what was once The Raft but was now the New York Memorial Hospital. She pulled into a parking lot where a Ferry was waiting. She turned the car off and looked over at him.
"Hope you're ok with water. We're going to visit your sister, my mom. The cafeteria is pretty awesome actually."
She just hoped that Ed would go for it. If he didn't want to she would happily drive him anywhere else he wanted to go to eat. She did want Ed to meet Laura though. Ed should learn more about his family and those left were quite limited. Most were dead or missing. She was also hoping Laura was having a good day and not restrained and sedated. It happened sometimes and she had been away too long from her mom.
"Your call Pup. We go there and you can meet my mom, or we'll go somewhere else to eat, no judgement."

"You mean the thing where you glare at students and pretend to teach them psychology?" Edward asked her, making sure to keep his tone light. "Never thought teachers made all that much." He wasn't going to bring up the bit where she dressed up as Spidergirl and presumably was, in fact, Spidergirl. He doubted, somehow, that she wanted to talk about that right now. Staying on happy topics. Nothing to do with being infiltrated, or thrown through windows, or imprisoned somewhere for weeks, or being practically gutted. Nothing like that. "But you know, if you've got all this money, you've got a relative who wouldn't mind a few quid." It was true. He got an allowance from Jean Grey, but what with being a mutant, the sort of guy who punched people in the face and friends with Kayleigh Wilson, he tended to go through clothes a lot, and they weren't cheap.
"Being told I'm going to freak out about something doesn't really help with the...not freaking out," He commented, "But alright. If it's some big secret." If he had to guess, it was either going to be something with a friend of hers, or something to do with his dad. Wait, May didn't have some guy, did she? She wasn't about to take him to meet a boyfriend or something like that, was she?
He was looking for any landmarks that might tell him where they were going, and he was using the New York Memorial Hospital to try and judge their location for about a minute before he realised they were, in fact, driving straight towards it. Were they going to meet someone there? Or did May just have a hankering for hospital cafeteria food? And then May told him, and he couldn't hide the surprise at the suggestion. May had mentioned it before, but he'd never given it all that much thought. "Go see X-23?" He asked, and then pulled a face. She was family, he should probably call her something more personal. Laura Kinney, or Talon at the very least. But it was easy when talking about people like his dad and well...he supposed she was his sister, to forget about that. They just seemed like half-mythical figures, to hear about them. Easy to forget his mum had spent six months shacking up with one and he'd been the result.
He realised that he'd been sitting in silence, thinking about the decision for almost a minute now. On one hand, he did want to know more about his family and Laura could probably help with that, but on the other hand he was trying to keep him and May away from sad topics, and it wasn't like May ever looked cheerful when talking about what had happened to her mum. But still, if she wanted to... "Let's do it," He said, opening the car door and sliding out.

"I don't teach psychology, I study it Pup. But I make almost no money from the school. Basically just enough to fix the damage I do to the property and students, minus a few hundred or so."
She may have hated the work she did with HuRTs, but honestly it did pay decently well. Not amazingly well by any means but certainly more than enough to survive on. Of course she usually got a bonus for taking down more serious threats. It explained why some leaders took their teams to take out some dangerous, all be it not threatening people. She understood, especially with the need for decent money and all.
"Squid? What will some squid do? I didn't even know you liked calamari."
She said with a wink. It wasn't a great joke, but still a semi-decent joke. She would occasionally make fun of his use of British terms as opposed to American ones. It wasn't exceptionally clever, but usually made her chuckle. That was pretty much all she cared about, her own humor. Of course making her laugh wasn't exactly difficult, especially when she was making the jokes.
"Good."
She said getting out of the car and putting the top up. She locked it once he got out and made her way towards the ferry. As she walked though her calm laid back demeanor faded and she stood up straighter, giving a semblance of authority.
"She prefers Laura, but might settle for sis, provided it's a good day that is."
She pulled what looked like a billfold from her pocket and flipped it open to the man at the dock.
'Miss Kinney-Reilly.'
He said with a salute before eyeing Ed.
"He's with me."
'Yes ma'am.'
She sat down on one of the benches, bringing her feet up and crossing them under her.
"Boat ride's quick. But when we get there stay close. She's in a very secured area. By now her doctor already knows I'm on the way. He's both afraid of and turned on by me, it's fun. Says a lot about him really. Then again he's a psychologist and no one in the Psych field is exactly balanced."
She said as the hospital drew closer and closer. It was once the Raft and they kept it that way. Primarily because it also housed a few seriously delusional Battle veterans and keeping them away from society was best for everyone. As they arrived May got up and made her way towards the dock.
"Now remember, stay close. I'd hate for them to confuse you for an escaped inmate Pup."

"Well whatever it is you pretend to teach," Edward was making sure to keep his tone light, so there was no way his tone could be mistaken for seriousness. He still wasn't all too sure what May did at Jean Grey, other than finding new ways and excuses to hurt students. Besides his training, he'd only had her cover one class, where she'd basically tried to damage the ears of a load of kids with supernatural hearing. That hadn't made her very popular, although her taking the piss out of him may have eased that a bit. "Other than finding new ways to get me stabbed in training, why do you need to pay for damage to students? What do you do, exactly?" Hopefully none of it was in legal feels.
He fixed her with a look as she made fun of his choice in words. He put up with a lot for her, she could definitely put up with a few Britishisms now and again. Still, he couldn't help but pull a faint smile at how ridiculous her joke was. He followed behind her, watching as she grew less relaxed and more alert, more tense. Like she was going to have to yell at someone. He'd seen the posture before, when she thought she was going to have to berate him for how his training was going, if he did something badly or made a stupid mistake. "I'll go for Laura," He said. Despite intellectually knowing he had a sister, not to mention a brother, it still hadn't quite settled in yet. Probably didn't help that he also knew said brother was dead. He should probably care more about that.
Edward resisted the urge to look defiant as the orderly cast a look over him. Guy was only doing his job, he didn't mean anything by it. Edward just didn't like being judged by people in positions of power. It was the sort of thing that made him cranky. He followed her over to the bench and sat down normally. "Isn't that how you like your men?" He asked her sarcastically, "Frightened of you and turned on?" Presumably any non-stupid man she slept with was a little bit terrified, considering she could kill most normal people without really thinking about it. Really not something he wanted to think about. "Well I hope you can resist grinding on him long enough to introduce me to X....to Laura." He didn't bother to point out that May herself was studying psychology, or that anyone who mistook him for an inmate would regret it.

"What do ya mean pretend to teach? I am the combat teacher as well as substitute in a handful of other classes. Are you implying you haven't learned anything in any of my classes? Because if so I'll need to go harder on you."
She said with a laugh. She knew he wasn't serious. She also knew he was smarter than to call her training skills into question. Primarily because she would make him prove it. Her training regiment was already intense and being questioned about it simply didn't work. Well it didn't work for him in the grand scheme but she usually had a blast. Although her idea of fun with him usually involved him bleeding and in pain.
"You'd be surprised the charges I get racked up in the school. Broken windows, doors, tables, headboards. It'd be best if you didn't ask for questions or details."
She said with a laugh. As the boat came to a stop she readied herself for what she'd face inside. There were good days and bad days in there. Usually she had to deal with intense security and once an inmate had briefly escaped. Of course he ran right to her so it wasn't like he made it far.
"How I like my men is not important. As for how I like my women....well it's a short list so there's that I guess. Besides, I have no intention to sleep with him, well not anytime soon at least."
With her that was pretty much never out of the question. Sure she was what some would call slutty, but she didn't care. She had issues and she often turned to sex or some other form of connection to get some semblance of a connection. She knew what was wrong with her, just didn't do anything to stop it.
"C'mon Pup."
She said as she strolled into the hospital. On the right was the hospital on the left was an obviously heavily secured area. She showed what looked like a badge to a man behind bullet proof glass.
'Hello Agent Kinney-Reilly.'
He said before buzzing open the door and the two of them walked through where they saw several guards along the hallway. Each one was armed with some strange rifle.
"Don't worry about them. They're all show. Most aren't even that tough. Right Scott?"
One guard stiffened up and tried to look away.
"He cried afterwards, it was hilarious. Nearly made the sex worth it....Nearly."
He said before stopping at a room where a doctor was standing outside.
'May!'
"That's Miss Kinney-Reilly to you. This is her brother Ed."
'Not...THAT brother I trust?'

Edward pulled an actual grimace as May suggested she might work him harder in training. For a start, he wasn't sure how much harder she could legally work him, and he also enjoyed not hurting every second of the day. "Oh no, I've learnt a lot from your teaching," He told her, "I've learnt what broken ribs feel like. I learnt how to set my nose before it heals crooked. I learnt that a claw to the gut isn't fun." He paused, "Learnt you were a bitch. And you might have shown me how to throw a punch at some point." It was all said with love, of course. He was English, snark and sarcasm were how he showed affection. And dislike, but that was an entirely different type of snark. He then grimaced again as May mentioned headboards. He could have been just fine without that little bit of information.
Boats still weren't something Edward was entirely used to. Thanks to his powers, it wasn't like he had trouble with sea legs or anything, but there was still the thought that something might happen to the boat, and drowning was something he really didn't want to try. In fact, it was one of the things he would least like to experience. Edward wondered what it would be like in the hospital. Hopefully there wouldn't be that many guards, or anything like that. Things he didn't like were doctors and high security. The high security because it reminded him of jail, and doctors because they had a predisposition to poking him with various implements when they heard about his healing factor.
He followed behind May as she led the way into the hospital. She knew where they were and where to go, and he didn't. At least the guard just let him through without making him sign a guestbook or something. Presumably they trusted May to handle it if he turned out to be a sleeper agent or an assassin or something. And Edward knew she probably would. Oh good, there were guards here, and a lot of them. Edward was giving them all fairly unfriendly looks until May mentioned sleeping with one, and then Edward decided that guy could get most of the hostile looks. He couldn't fight back a snort at his reaction and May's story there, and had the overwhelming urge to throw a pack of tissues at the guy 'in case he got lucky later'.
They stopped outside a room that looked exactly like all the other rooms in this entire place, except somebody who was presumably a doctor was standing outside it. Great. He frowned as the doctor asked if he was Daken. "Do I look especially Japanese today?" He asked May, amping up the puzzlement in his voice. He rolled his eyes and turned back to the doctor, "No, I'm the English one."

May loved his snark. Yes she'd never admit it in a classroom or with her training squad. But when it was just the two of them. An uncle and his niece, regardless of if they seemed to be more of a brother sister combination, she loved his snark. If he had Spider powers she would've paid him to be her side kick. That being said, she still wasn't against the concept of Ed as her sidekick. She even had a few ideas for costumes for him. She knew he was months, if not weeks away from becoming a full X-Man. Despite the fact that Kayleigh was the squad leader, who to would become an X-Man soon enough, She had purposely chosen her as to not seem like she was picking favorites. But she'd wrestled with the idea for awhile now.
"See, I'm an amazing teacher. I'd rather teach you why not to get hit, then how to it."
It was an odd teaching style but it worked. Teaching someone how to fight was far more complex than punches and kicks. It involved teaching all aspects of fighting, including what happened when you lost. Sure May might have focused too heavily on that but she had her own style. May laughed lightly at Ed's comment about looking Japanese.
"Well of ya squint you do kinda look half Japanese. I mean you still don't look like Akihiro. Of course we'll ignore why the doctor thought I'd bring him. How's she doing?"
"She's been good. Only attacked one orderly in two weeks. So that's a record for her."
"Ah good. How's Tim doing by the way?"
'Well he's walking on his own now."
He said before unlocking the door. May took hold of than handle and slowly opened it.
"Mom? It's May...."
'May Day!'
May motioned for Ed to wait. She walked in and hugged Laura who was chained to the wall by her waist. Her hands were covered in adamantium fingerless gloves that ensured her claws couldn't come out. May hugged her and smiled.
"I brought someone. The person I was telling you about."
'A boyfriend?'
"No Ma. Ed, your little brother."
May then motioned for him to come in. She hoped this would go well. She'd been talking Ed up to her mom for months now. She was proud of him and wanted them all to be a family. Laura stood there calmly, trying to brush her long black hair back. She wore a simple pair of scrubs and was barefoot, minus the adamantium casings on her feet.
"Hello little brother..."

Of course, Edward just enjoyed being snarky to people, and he didn't just restrict it to situations where him and May were alone. Training, missions, lessons, mealtimes, he could be counted on to give a pretty much endless stream of sarcasm. Of course, around other people he tended to regret it. Being used as demonstrations, surprise 4AM training sessions, just a plan old smack, there were usually consequences. But then again, if he cared about the trouble his mouth got him into, he'd probably have shut up more often in his eighteen year-long life. So far, it had only happened a few times. But then again, sometimes his mother, May, Celeste and the police were the only people who'd stopped him for long. "Can't you demonstrate why getting hit is a bad idea on someone else?" He mock grumbled, "Isaac and Kayleigh don't seem to break ribs nearly as much as I do."
Edward turned to the doctor and raised an eyebrow at him, still for the brother comment, as May joined in on taking the piss out of him. "I mean, besides anything else, he's apparently dead," Edward pointed out. He probably should care more about a member of his family dying, but he'd never met Daken once, and apparently he was something of a bastard, so he was little more than an impersonal figure to Edward. He wasn't quite using Daken's death for humour, he wouldn't do that, especially not with the effect it had had on Mari, but he didn't sound all that bothered. At least nothing like as bothered as he sounded when he mentioned his dad being MIA.
He didn't have anything meaningful to add to the conversation between May and the doctor, so he just listened, raising his eyebrows once as they mentioned someone who apparently his sister had paralysed. Edward was somebody who could presumably heal paralysis in a couple of weeks, but he wasn't eager to try it. For one, hanging out with Kayleigh would be far harder if he couldn't move his lower body. For kicking.
Edward waited for his cue to walk in, listening to the conversation with a bit of a sad smile on his face. He was British, not emotionally dead, and he could tell it hurt May to see her mother like this. Still, he had a mixture of excitement and nerves about finally meeting another family member. Going from a siblingless child of a single parent with one uncle in America and an aunt he didn't see to somebody with a large, sprawling, occasionally murderous family was a bit of a jarring change. And then he realised May was waiting for him to come in, and he stepped forwards. Honestly, his first thought was that it looked like all they'd done was give X-23 some really powerful brass knuckles, but he supposed it was better than the alternative.
His second thought was horror that she was chained to a wall. She couldn't be that bad, surely? Around May, she seemed entirely lucid. It was monstrous, it was abhorrent. His fists clenched in anger, and he had to concentrate his will very hard to avoid his claws sliding out. He didn't think tooling up in here was a good idea. Still, he swallowed his rage and smiled at X-23. Laura. His sister. "Hey....Laura," He said, still churning with various emotions. Edward had no idea how to handle meeting relatives. Him and May had met in police custody, and Mari had been traumatised when he'd first seen her. Did they hug? Wave? Shake hands? He stepped closer, leaving it up to his sister to decide.
